This could go in the site notice. In other news, if we're going to sit on this request for a while, can we give Ventriloquist extended editor rights so that I don't have to delete every move remnant >.> -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:41, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

Question to the candidate[edit]

I could probably just pass this as-is, even with the lack of numbers of not-votes, but I do have a minor concern I'd like an answer about first. I hope you take no offense to this question, Vent, but do you feel you have the temperament for adminship? The impression I have of you (possibly outdated?) is that you can be a bit brash at times, and one of the most important skills for an admin is knowing the difference between a vandal and a confused user: one requires a hammer, and the other requires a guiding hand. Mind you, not every admin needs to do everything, so you can always leave the guiding hand to someone else if that's not your thing, but I just want to confirm that you know to be judicious about when not to hammer, before we give you said hammer. ;) Apologies if this comes off as insulting or dismissive; I wouldn't be asking if I didn't think you were worth considering. - Tanetris (talk) 13:15, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

No worries, the discussion page is used for discussions - right? It's your role as an administrator to inspect if the user is fit for adminship, so of course I won't take it as insulting. Onto the answer - are you referring to a specific case in which I acted in an abrasive way, or is this your overall impression over certain edits/discussions? I don't recall having any fights with other users or editors, although I had a bit of a disagreement on the Ascalon Tome page - specifically about linking waypoints, which I was strongly against at the time. I'll agree that that wasn't my best move ever. User:Thrain reverted my edit and I answered in a non-chill way, but I didn't have any more "beef" with him from that point on. About the vandal/confused thing, are you again referring to a certain vandal? I've reverted plenty in my time here; especially with a certain IP, but I always made sure to post a message on their talk page if the edits persisted for some time. Other than that, I had no "ongoing" discussions with another vandal/user, that I can recall. Thanks for the question, though, glad I can answer something, at least! --Ventriloquist 13:34, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
Nothing specific leaps to mind, just a general sense that I recall seeing you get a bit aggressive with revert edit summaries in the past. Not even to the point of "behaving badly" but the sort of thing where... Everything an admin does has a bit extra weight behind it, even if you're acting no different than you would as a regular editor, y'know? That said, nothing I notice in your recent contribs leaps out as problematic, so... I'mma ask Poke if he has an opinion, then we'll see what we're gonna do.
(in the meantime, anyone who hasn't voiced their support/opposition/neutrality/other, now is a good time to do so) - Tanetris (talk) 18:15, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
