Candidate statement[edit]
Hey everybody, I'm Felix Omni. I'm a bureaucrat on GuildWiki and I've been an active sysop here since August of 2009. It's my intention to remain as one for the foreseeable future. I'd like to think my credentials are pretty solid; I have a strong track record of user moderation, policy discussion, and performing maintenance. I believe, however, that these reconfirmations are as much about community trust as they are about capabilities, and before I can ask you all to trust me I'd like to show that I trust you.
My name is Kevin Healy. I live in Joliet, the fourth largest city in Illinois. I'm 22 years old. I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of St. Francis, also located in Joliet. I walked in the commencement ceremony held today, but I have to take one final class in the fall semester to complete my degree. I am a single straight white male, and I am a practicing Roman Catholic. I have a Shih Tzu named Mimi.
In addition to my real life information, there are a few past conflicts that I'd like to publicly disclose.
- I once had a fight with Auron on GuildWiki that resulted in me temporarily losing sysop status there. We are bros now.
- I once had a fight with Pling and Defiant Elements on GuildWiki. Pling and I are on good terms now, and I haven't heard from DE in a long time.
- I am still fighting with Aiiane, but I forgot to tell her.
I'll be happy to answer any questions on the talk page. 21:51, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Discussion[edit]
- Explanation of why the candidate should retain rights/be given additional rights.
- I'd say that Felix Omni is purely trustworthy, active and competent administrator, to an extent that I'd like to see him acting as a bureaucrat in future, if needed, but I'm not sure if I can trust him because he once had a camera behind my sofa before something chewed through its cable. - I think Felix has been one of the most active sysops here. While I don't always agree with his opinions, he has a mix of common sense and a strong personality that is very useful in a sysop. I also can't remember ever seeing him doing something disruptive with the sysop tools. Therefore, I would like to see Felix keep his status as a sysop. Erasculio 22:09, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- I see Felix Omni as a capable administrator, he is active and knows how to keep his cool and handle things on an appropriate way. His humor is also much appreciated in the harsh world of vandal slaying and spambot deconstructing. -- Cyan 22:41, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- He was active and kept things in line when it was a ghost town here. I can't think of any reason to take away the tools he's wielded well after all of this time, particularly now when it's really starting to get interesting. -- aspectacle 23:04, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- I support Felix if only because he has a Shih Tzu. But in all seriousness, he's proven himself more than excellent at being an admin and I would like to see him continue in that regard. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about Felix being a bcrat, but then again bcrat has just become a fancy term for sysop with extra tools, so whether we need or don't need him as a bcrat remains to be seen. - Not that my words have any credibility anymore (especially on this wiki, right Pling?), but...Having known Felix for a number of years, I can attest to the quality of his edits, as well as to his character both on and off all three wikis. In the history of GuildWiki, I have promoted him, demoted him, re-promoted him, and made him a bureaucrat - so I think it's obvious that I place high trust in this user. (The demotion was an...unorthodox case that called into question how far one's actions are representative of the wiki outside of it. I would consider that the biggest black mark on Felix's record, but do bear in mind that Felix had the humility to admit his error and accepted the demotion peacefully. It takes a certain dignity to be able to step down gracefully.) I believe that Felix brings a good balance to the sysop team in that he is multitalented and able to deal with a wide variety of people without compromising his values. As to the possibility of bureaucracy, I would be quite comfortable with Felix at the reins here on GW2W. He seems to have a good feel on the community's pulse and certainly has demonstrated through his constant level of activity that he cares about this place. I also cannot recall an incident on this wiki where Felix has caused trouble or otherwise done anything that would merit him losing sysop tools, so if nothing else, the Law of Sysop Inertia(tm) applies. That is, a user with sysop will stay a user with sysop until something knocks him or her astray - and as Felix himself states, he is still going straight. In conclusion, I would just like to state that Felix has demonstrated to me firsthand a great deal of personal growth, maturation, and mastery of the skills that I believe an ideal sysop should have. Of all the admins I have personally dealt with in my time, I could only name perhaps one or two others who really "blossomed" and found their place on the wiki as sysops. I would really be hard-pressed to find a more ideal candidate for the job, and I have complete faith that Felix will continue to be a valuable asset to the community. Vili 点 23:19, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- I think Felix is a very capable administrator. Being on GuildWiki for a long time and seeing how he's used his sysop tools make me know I can trust him in this position. I wouldn't be opposed to giving him bureaucrat rights either - he's done a great job. He gets my full support. Cress Arvein 00:01, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
