Category talk:Weapons by rarity

just thinking in wikicode... it wouldn't be at all difficult to add the category logic to weapons since we already basically do the same for SMW, and categories are probably easier to navigate. Any benefit of doing this for other weapons? (not just greatswords). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:08, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Ugh, no. If a category can be directly replicated by SMW, then we need a query form, not more categories. These categories are a great example of that - if you were to build them out completely, you'd have 6 rarities * 19 weapon types = 114 extra categories cluttering things up. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 17:53, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
kind of true that the data is "around", but I'd safely guess that regular lazy readers are not going to go hunting for an obscure form template to find items. What is easier to find, A [a form], or B [follow category link from bottom of page]? perhaps we need some kind of form "portal" to group these together somewhere that people might find them. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:12, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
If Semantic Drilldown weren't bugged with respect to master/slave database configurations, that would be the perfect solution - it integrates with existing categories to supply in-line filtering options. Unfortunately we can't use it here until that gets fixed.
Yes, we need a way to make query forms more visible to readers. A portal page sounds like a great idea. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:32, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
and wherever we stick the link... stick a nav on the bottom of the query template.

Perhaps some sort of tab or dropdown navigation at the top would be better, since result sets could potentially be very long. And form pages are a different sort of animal to normal articles, so I don't see anything wrong with adopting different formatting standards for them. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:47, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

true there are several long result pages. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:59, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
I was disappointed (but not surprised) that drilldown ignores subobjects, making it less relevant. (I was just looking at Category:Shields + noticed the sum of the rarity counts didn't add up to the number of pages) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:47, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
