Should we just move the August trailer to "Guild Wars 2 Teaser Trailer" and move this page to "The Races of Tyria"?-- Shew 19:54, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

I think displaying the date allows for better categorization, and it's easier to understand what it is with the current title. I do think we could add a redirect here from The Races of Tyria trailer or something like that. Erasculio 19:58, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Just a question, will there be any other trailers XD(I sure hope so). Any1 knows?

Move[edit]

I see we have a little bit of a move war going on here, so I thought we should maybe start talking before doing? Personally I'd support "The Races of Tyria", since that's the official name. I'd also prefer "December 2009 trailer" over "2009 December trailer", incidentally. --Santax (talk · contribs) 19:16, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

I tried to discuss, but poke decided to ignore both tries and just move anyway. "The Races of Tyria" has two problems:
  • It's worse for categorization. In a trailer, when that trailer was shown is almost as important as the content of the trailer itself, hence being able to categorize by date is important. That's also why we're using "2009 December" as opposed to "December 2009", thus having all 2009 trailers together, as opposed to all December trailers together.
  • It doesn't even state the article is a trailer. "The Races of Tyria" is what one would expect to be the title of this article, not a trailer, which means that not only people would stumble here by mistake, but also those who are actually searching for the trailer, and use the Search feature in the article's name, won't find it. IMO, that's the worst possible name for the trailer's article; "The Races of Tyria trailer" is "less bad", but still lacks proper categorization.

Remember, it's possible to add sort keys for categorisation, so the way the article is categorised can be different to the way it's titled. (Also, I think Poke was just being bold, so let's not bash him for that - just move on.) -- pling User Pling sig.png 20:40, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
I am in favor of "The Races of Tyria" (and moving the first trailer to the name given to it after a while: Evil Rises), then categorizing it like [[:Category:December 09 trailer|2009 December Trailer]] - goes to the same category, and is categorized by year, but has the official name. Win win as how I see it. -- Konig/talk 21:01, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
"Evil Rises" is an unofficial name given to it; on the website it's listed as "Guild Wars 2 Teaser Trailer," so I think it should be that.-- Shew 22:26, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
I would strongly suggest using "The Races of Tyria trailer" as the name of the article, so people looking for a list of playable races don't find the trailer by mistake, and people actually searching for a trailer can find it searching its title. Erasculio 23:39, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. -- pling User Pling sig.png 23:40, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
We could put an italicized note at the top of the page (I don't know what you call them) where it states a similar page (e.g. "For the playable races, see [[Playable races]]."-- Shew 23:57, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Wouldn't help with the search feature, though. And besides, it is a trailer, it's only logical that the title would mention what it is. Erasculio 00:10, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Agreed with The Races of Tyria trailer. --Xeeron 00:43, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Between talk here and on the August trailer, I think people agree with The Races of Tyria trailer? I'm not going to move it myself, but I have began using the generic trailer template in the pages about this trailer.
What do you people prefer? To have a category named "The Races of Tyria trailer‎" and sort that category on the trailers category by date, or to add this article (with the title "The Races of Tyria trailer‎") to a "2009 December trailer" category? Erasculio 11:26, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

I am thinking have a December 2009 trailer category within a "Trailers" category, with a chronological sort key so it'll still sort by date and this article, all relevant screenshots and concept art within it. Although I doubt having an article called "The Races of Tyria" will cause any problems since that's not something people are likely to search for, a category called "The Races of Tyria" could easily be confusing. --Santax (talk · contribs) 16:11, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
The only problem with that is how we are currently categorizing images both on the name of the trailer and on what it is. So, for example, a screenshot from "The Races of Tyria" trailer would be within two categories: Screenshots and one for the trailer ("December 2009 trailer", "2009 december trailer", "The Races of Tyria trailer", whatver). Within the category of the trailer those images don't need to be sorted by date (given how the trailer itself and its category have already been sorted by date), but within the category of screenshots, it would work better if those images were sorted by date. However, currently the Category: Screenshot is added automatically by the Arena Net image template (or trailer template), in which there is no sort key. Probably there is a way to implement a sort key into the template, but that would likely be way too much work. That's why, IMO, if we are going for a "year month trailer" category, I think "month year trailer" category would work better (2009 december trailer), as the images within said category could be named the same thing ("2009 december trailer Charr screenshot", for example). Of course, we could also go with "Category: December 2009 trailer" and name images under the "2009 december" format, if you people don't mind. Erasculio 21:12, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
I think we could use:
  • Category: Trailers
  • Category: 2009 august trailer
  • Guild Wars 2 Teaser Trailer (article name)
  • 2009 august (image name) (screenshot or concept art)
  • Category: 2009 december trailer
  • The Races of Tyria trailer (article name)
  • 2009 december (image name) (screenshot or concept art)
We could use "december 2009" as the category name instead sorting for "2009 december", but the image name would likely be as the above (for example, 2009 december Rytlok screenshot). Erasculio 22:06, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't think there's a way to make screenshots chronological without either reuploading or adding a sortkey to every single one of them, and I would have no problem with the images uploaded under the current name and the category as "December 2009 trailer". --Santax (talk · contribs) 23:25, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Ok then. I have reuploaded the december screenshots, and I'll reupload the august ones later. Erasculio 11:10, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
