Should we list the ingredients here? Ariyen 20:21, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

There is already a category for ingredients. --214.26.16.6 21:12, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, I don't think everyone would want to look in a category for ingredients, when we could put them in sections like drinks, sweets, etc. Also, trying to fix the Orphaned pages better and give (hence I posted here) an option for people to find all the ingredients. We do this with Professions, Races, etc. Why not here? Ariyen 22:07, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
I think a database is more suited for those kinds of listings. 66.176.28.250 22:12, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Either we should have a list here or on a "List of ingredients" page. Categories are messy for most users to navigate. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 22:40, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
I Prefer a list here. I don't think we need another page for it. Ariyen 22:47, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Probably. Go for it if you'd like. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 22:48, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
What is the point of the category page, then? It even says at the top "This is a list of ingredients". --214.26.16.6 01:44, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
The lists vs cats topic has been done to death, numerous times. One of the major pros with lists are the fact taht they are sortable. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 02:45, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Usually it is a redundant thing with the page listing usually being somewhat more attractive or organised listing over the category. For example, as most things in GW2 seem to have an associated icon perhaps a listing on this page might evolve to include a little icon of the ingredient? -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 02:46, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) here's a little something, I'm horrible with choosing colours, so that will most definitely need to be tweaked (I picked it because it was called iceburg lettuce ;)) Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 02:53, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

The Acquisition/Cost is on their page so I wasn't thinking of that at all... However, I'd like to replace the word Name with something. Ariyen 05:51, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Ingredient? The table looks really good. I like it. Should we put it up? --Xu Davella 14:53, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Duplicate list of Ingredients[edit]

There already is a (more updated) list of ingredients on the Crafting material page. Is there a way we can use the same table on both pages? User KangaRoo sig.png kangaRoo`talk 18:03, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Foraged Ingredients[edit]

I think there should be a distinction made as to which ingredients can be foraged with the harvesting sickle (parsley, blueberry, mushroom, etc) and those that must be purchased (ginger root, bay leaf, Jug of Water, etc) Wombatt 23:30, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Do we know which can never be harvested? (I would assume that ginger and bay leaf grow someplace in Tyria). I think the way to distinguish is through an acquisition section, e.g. Parsley Leaf#Acquired from and Jug of Water#Acquired from. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:40, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Honestly, no, I don't know. I didn't do anything with Chef in any of the BWEs, I just picked those two out randomly. As near as I can figure, there are three main ways to get ingredients: Buy them (from a merch or another player), forage them (with a sickle), or loot them (slab of poultry meat, slab of red meat, etc). Would it be worthwhile to come up with some way to differentiate between the three? Normal, Bold, italicized text? Or would they need another table, or a notation within one table like P, F, L in a column next to the ingredient's name? In that case, I would say that Purchase should be defined as "can only be purchased from a vendor" since everything can be purchased from another player (as far as Chef is concerned). Wombatt 15:31, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
I think they should be grouped on how they are acquired. The Master Chef usually is selling 9 basic ingredients in stacks of 10 each which cost 80 copper the stack. Then we have the Master Chef selling other stuff for karma in Bulks(which always contain 25 of the ingredient if you open the bulk). These karma things are sold in 2 different tabs at the Master Chef but that does not matter. Important is only that they all are the basic ingredients which can be stored in the Collection Tab in your bank account. I would say group by bought with gold(copper, silver) / bought with karma / gathered / looted. The meat so far I have seen only been dropped by certain mobs(loot). Stuff that can't be bought has to be gathered. If you can't gather it it can be bought and you need to search a karma vendor. Most of them later are at renown hearts. There should be an info on the main ingredients page on which one to buy at the Master Chef and which require a renown heart - with crafting level reqs of the item and level of the renown heart and a bit sorted. The Master Chef stuff first. Then the renown heart stuff sorted by level because people will need the lower stuff first and it will be easier to see which they already can get and for which they need to complete hearts first. Also the stuff that needs to be gathered spawns either randomly or (and then only) in a Node farm. Could be noted too. These thinks I find easier to gather maybe people want to search for them first. - lordmd 19:05, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Proof Spuash has been fixed[edit]

is there a screenshot that [[Butternut Spuash]] has been changed to Butternut Squash? Rudhraighe 11:50, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

I have problems with the mouse over info with my screenshots. But I can confirm this is fixed. Probably lots of other users can confirm it too. - lordmd 19:30, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Bulks[edit]

The Master Chef and the karma vendors at renown hearts are selling bulks. The bulk item should be added too. It is a seperate item. Not like the 9 basic things that are sold for water that just show the plural name because they are 10 of the same stuff. Then maybe include the info on the page of the specific ingredient too and calculate a cost per item. There are several items priced with 3 karma. I know they are sold at some vendors too at only one item. Did not see this at the beginning when I played human in the human capital but saw them in other cities later. But buying in bulks is cheaper. The price a completed recipe could be added at that pages too(and for recipes that generate more than one item like 2 burgers or something like that then per 1 unit too). - lordmd 19:30, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Mixed Ingredients(Already consumable stuff that can be refinde even more vs. stuff that only can be used for other recipes[edit]

We need to make a difference between the stuff like Loaf of Bread which already can be consumed but can still be used as ingredient as well and other stuff like Pasta Noodles which can't be consumed and only are usable to craft other stuff. Maybe on each of the ingredient's page add all the recipes and check in the Discovery Tab and add a note if there are still undiscovered recipes. Then it is easier for others to see where still research is needed. - lordmd 19:30, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

[[Poppy Seed]]?[edit]

Can't find this item in the bank tab for Collections under Cooking Materials. Also it shows there that only 101 basic ingredients exist and we have 102 in the list(Yes I counted them and I counted more than one time to make sure). - lordmd 19:30, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Tiers / Sickle requirements for Herbs[edit]

I think the cooking materials are a bit tiered too. We can see this at the Sickles they require to use in addition to their crafting level requirement. Also the vendors at renown hearts and the Master Chef have different prices at ranges that are alike to the tier ranges of other professions. Like for example I made a list of the stuff I discovered so far(far less than in this wiki but still enough to discover a pattern) and I saw 0-74 items(75 starting the next tier so effectively only until 50 because there is no such a thing as 74) cost 21 the bulk, 75-149 cost 28, 150-? cost 35 one bulk. Not tested higher because not been in higher character level regions.

Also the Garlic and Parsley can be gathered in the starting area of the humans. Both of them. Gathered there yesterday a bit. And they are below 75. Is this sure with the iron sickle needed for Parsley which has lower requirement. Parsley has 0 req. Garlic 50. At least in my client it is showing like this. Here in the wiki is 50 at Parsley page. I think there were different types of herb nodes. This is the problem. I saw carrots with their name at the node. And then that root vegetable stuff node which yields carrots. Bug and they should use one name? Or did they do it on purpose to make different requirements and give the same stuff to farm in higher level zones but at another node with another sickle required? I think the latter. The Portobello Mushroom can be gathered at "Varied Mushroom" and at "Portobello Mushroom" nodes and the item texts of to differently tiered sickles hint each to one of these nodes. Also the highest tier sickle is talking about "in maps up to level 80". I think thats why they have differend nodes for same items. Also I think I have noticed one node "drop" differend stuff. Only at the herb nodes. Must be a different possibility with the lower sickle req nodes dropping more the lower stuff. I am really not sure and have not tested all of this enough especially not running around with different sickle types. But at Gathering#Foraging in the table they show this too. Someone else must have noticed this too. More research needed(probably in different areas like kryta vs jungle different nodes). In that table is not the "Herb Patch" which I saw in tier lowest level region too. Must be tier 1 sickle too and the sprouts start in the next area 15-25 with a better sickle(description on iron sickle hinting to them). - lordmd 08:52, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Acquisition Sources[edit]

Some updates are needed for some foods (from normal text to italics) that are not vendor-available anymore (like nutmeg seed and chili pepper) from the Sept. 8th 2012 update. Nought E 23:57, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Cinnamon Stick Gathered with an Axe?[edit]

I know it's possible to acquire Cinnamon Sticks sometimes when chopping down Green Wood trees with an Axe; however, I couldn't find a section on this page indicating this or any other cooking ingredients that would be possibly gathered with an axe. Is this something worth mentioning on the Ingredients page, or does it belong elsewhere (i.e., on the ingredient-specific pages)? 216.125.152.250 21:02, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
