When I was younger, I was holed up in a ruined camp, and I fought off a company of Modniir with a broken sword, a box of explosives, and a fractured collarbone.

That's amazing! You must have been quite the soldier.

Oh I was. And I'm not ready to retire while the war's still going on. I'll fight until I have no teeth left, I've gone blind, and I can't walk. And then I'll whack any centaur who comes within reach of my porch with my cane.

The Seraph could probably still use you. (Same as "Maybe you can still help.")

Now everyone tells me, "You're retired, Merle. Just relax." How can someone like me be expected to sit around doing embroidery or something? How can I relax when the centaurs attack this town right in front of me?

Maybe you can still help.

Oh, I'd fight if they'd let me! And my mind's still sharp as a drake's tooth. I led troops against the centaurs for years. But they won't listen to me! Kooky old woman, ha!

They'll come around.
