Glenna's field journal is a collection of notes, observations, and other details regarding her travels in the Forsaken Thicket.

Shortly after Mordremoth's death, I detected magical anomalies in northern Maguuma. Reports of a "wind storm" or "shock wave" were frantically passed between Priory scholars. I set out to investigate.

I happened upon a camp of demoralized Pact soldiers who'd been ambushed by bandits. Some of them had been kidnapped and taken deeper into the woods, presumably for interrogation.

Just past the encampment were several odd structures:a massive man-made wall and a trio of pylons with strange inscriptions. Glowing beings and a magical barrier prevented all prior rescue attempts.

I did my best to comfort the remaining soldiers, offering them what little food I had. They were badly shaken from the surprise attack. I can only imagine the trauma of seeing a friend die so suddenly.

Hearing the accounts of these battered soldiers angered me. Who would do such a thing—especially on the heels of our victory? I felt a burning in my chest, a desire for retribution.

But I was powerless against the dangers of the jungle, so I waited patiently for someone to come to their aid. Thankfully, a group of mercenaries answered Falgeir's call and pressed forth into danger.

They dispatched the Vale Guardian and its accomplices, while also destroying the pylons in the process. Next, they forged deeper into unknown lands, vanquishing angry, displaced spirits as they went.

They were stopped in their tracks by a huge beast made of frightened, vengeful souls whom I'd later find out were shocked free from the Maguuma Bloodstone. Confused and agitated, they sought revenge.

The mercenaries dispersed this Gorseval creature before assaulting the bandit tree fort and confronting Sabetha, the bandit leader. It was here that the situation turned dire.

This wasn't a simple bandit encampment, but the outer defenses of a jungle stronghold. Inside were dark secrets and sinister rituals to be discovered, so I decided to explore westward...

I traveled west after the events at Spirit Vale and set up shop in a cave to offer assistance and sell supplies to anyone brave enough to journey deeper into Forsaken Thicket.

Groups of stalwart explorers stopped at my camp before pressing onward. Soon I heard a terrible commotion through the twisting cave passages. After the air fell silent, I ventured forth.

I can only imagine the battle that took place, but judging from the corpses littering the ground, it was obvious the squad handily defeated Slothasor and his slublings. I almost felt sorry for them!

A strange current of residual magic emanated from the giant sloth's lifeless body, lending substance to the theory that it was mutated as a result of Mordremoth's death.

I decided to follow their trail of righteous destruction outside. My journey soon led to a grim discovery:a pile of bodies, and charred human remains in a fire pit. The stench was unbearable.

After a moment of silence, I followed the evidence to an abandoned fort. From the scattered footprints and carnage, I deduced a fight had just taken place and prisoners were freed.

Up the hill, a ley rift manifested, so I felt compelled to investigate. My surprise turned to horror when I laid eyes on more bodies. These poor souls were thrown to their deaths.

The absence of life was overpowering—dead peasants, bandits, even lifeless mordrem vines[sic]. The area appeared to be a vacated work camp. Most curious was a broken asura gate.

What was it doing here? Why was it attuned to Brisban Wildlands? What's the connection to the bandits out there? I barely had time to process the scene before I heard a voice from the temple.

I soon met a man visibly shaken by terrible events, yet he remained strong despite his ordeals. He introduced himself as Bennett, and he told me about the atrocities the White Mantle had committed...

Talk more option tango.png Read about Squad Leader Bennett.
I didn't expect Bennett to be in good spirits after his release, though I suppose this illustrates why his soldiers are so loyal. His ability to remain calm in the face of adversity is inspiring.

He puts the lives of others above his own. When he offered to cooperate with his White Mantle captors in exchange for the well-being of his squad mates, he essentially signed his death sentence.

If not for his rescue, his soul would've been torn from his body in a macabre ritual and trapped inside a bloodstone prison. An awful punishment for the simple offense of crossing the wrong people.

Thankfully he's still with us and able to fight. I hope to see him again someday. I have many questions.

All the activity surrounding the Maguuma Bloodstone has me concerned. Decades—maybe even centuries—of human sacrifice have imbued it with souls. Fragments have been mined from it.

And with Mordremoth's death, there is an abundance of magical energy in and around it. That any physical object could contain such power is terrifying, especially if wielded by the irresponsible.

As we've witnessed with Matthias, great concentrations of magic are hard to control and often lead to unpredictable results. Has anyone stopped to think what all this tampering may lead to?

Day 1: Encountered an anomaly near the Pact camp. From a distance, it resembles a heat shimmer or sun glare. On approach, however, it changes shape as if the light surrounding it is bending inward.

Day 2: If I listen carefully, it seems to emit a faint, almost unnatural sound. I plan to throw a rock at the formation to elicit a response. (When away from the lab, field science rules apply!)

Day 3: Test complete. I'm not dead! The rock passed through it unaffected. No explosions detected. Tomorrow I'll begin a battery of attunement tests to see if I can provoke a reaction.
Talk more option tango.png Continue.
Day 4: Initial tests are yielding promising results. I've deduced that this anomaly is like a "window" to other places. If I concentrate hard enough, I can see glimpses of figures through the mist.
