Assassin[edit]

So, I'm assuming that this will be an Adventurer class and most probably an Assassin. --Spigs 00:17, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Indeed. I also suspect that they are now demolition experts or at least users of blackpowder powers judging by the black particles. --I AmLegion talk 02:48, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
That's just background, as best I can tell. Or are you suggesting that Mesmers will wield butterflies and pink things? =P --Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png (Talk) 03:36, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Don't you remember that Mesmer use illusive powers? If all the skills are as flashy as the Elementalist preview suggest then it is possible that Mesmer will be able to summon that kind of illusions. --I AmLegion talk 04:10, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I was thinking these backgrounds would sort of reflect the characters. Butterflies and such are associated with Mesmers, as Erasculio pointed out in its talk page. So I am wondering if the thought of ash (or explosions) will be associated with Assassins. Just speculation, of course, but it'd seem rather fitting to have an assassin use some sort of explosives. ^^ --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 14:24, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Not talking about the main image with professions. I was talking about the main professions page (next to the ele, you can see the ele concept art that's similar to this).-- Shew 02:00, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
(And yeah, it's also in the wallpaper.)-- Shew 02:02, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, that's what you meant. Then yes. --Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png (Talk) 02:22, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, assassins have always been tied to smoke explosion thingies. Every shadowstep has black dust animation, meaning a (small) black powder explosion. I guess the next logical "evolution" would be to start using them for sabotage, especially when catapults and cannons and black powder will be much more common. -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 19:29, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Lol @Neil, mesmers are by far on of the best classes, I don't know if you've ever played pvp but they are godly and take a lot of skill to play. Assassins are just faceroll 1,2,3 etc. Reaper of Scythes** User Reaper of ScythesJuggernaut1.png 16:15, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Worst and best are subjective. I, for instance, think warriors are the worst class while assassins the best attacker and necromancers the best casters (don't bother asking me which is better) and monks being the worst caster. My reasons may be biased as well, but so are all of yours. In essence, there is no best or worse class: They are, in fact, all/mostly equal and what makes one hate or like a profession more or less would be one's personal experience with said professions - whether it be via playing them (and either pwning or getting pwned), or playing against them (and again, pwning or getting pwned). There's no reason to fight over this. -- Konig/talk 22:02, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
I personally think they all have their ups & downs, but my personal favorite is the warrior, and I can't play a monk to save my life...or anyone else's. Zolann The IrreverentUser Zolann The Irreverent Mysterious Summoning Stone.png 22:27, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Worst and best are only subjective if you decide the worst and best in a subjective way. Paragons are the worst class as a whole because they have a very small selection of skills (even less than dervishes, since they have an attribute that does nothing) and an even smaller selection of viable builds. Not to say that they don't have their uses, but they do much better as a secondary profession. (Disclaimer: PvE has not been taken into consideration, as balance is currently haphazard at best. Although, paragons are pretty much 1-trick-ponies when it comes to PvE, anyways.) -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 19:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Guys you can't make a persistent worl MMO and not have a Rogue class in it. No matter how original Anet tries to be they still want to bring more "classical" MMO fans in. As far as classes go GW2 will be the same as any other MMO. Sins aren't worst class they just got epicly imba in GW1 because of updates that gave us SF and Jagged>Fox>DB spam. ;p --81.157.186.26 16:04, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Btw, picture title is "daggerbattlestance". So it should be El, As-class or new class (Wa&Ra just cann't use a dagger mainhand, offhand only).
"...they still want to bring more "classical" MMO fans in..." We'll see. Classic can change sometimes... A fantasy come into my mind. What prevent ArenaNet from implementing pistolbattlestance (gunkata style from film Equilibrium)? And someone said here: "The new excerpt from Ghosts of Ascalon suggests that Dougal Keane may be some type of rogue profession inspired by Indiana Jones, but there is still too much conflicting evidence to confirm this " Can it be As-class?--Sergiy 14:15, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Most Classical MMO fans love the rogue, a much more diverse version of GW1's Assassin. With the various leaks that stealth may be added to GW2, along with the mention that one profession will be able to use rifles and pistols, but not bows I think that an Assassin variant is highly probable. If not as the Assassin, perhaps as a Rogue, or even, a Pirate?--Warzog Watch your six! 00:17, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
I think by now it is fairly obvious that the Assassin is the "returning profession getting a style/name change." There aren't any other mechanics of the GW1 professions left to take besides the Assassin. EiveTalk 00:21, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

I think that they will have "sabotage" and trap skills. I'm just not sure how their chains will work (since chains only take one skill slot, and they don't need two daggers). -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 17:33, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Who said sins get chains? I think they won't keep the old GW1 chain, but I wouldn't doubt that they get the one-slot chain of GW1 once or twice. Heck, I wouldn't doubt every weapon-based profession getting one (e.g., 5 of the 8 professions get at least one chain). UGH, I wish Anet would hurry up with releasing the profession information! Regarding the general color theme.[edit]

It obviously resembles an assassin or something along that line, but the background color is making me curious. Every other profession has its "native" skill icon color as the background color in this art. Assassins in Guild Wars used a dark purple/red if I remember correcltly, this is black and white. Feedback please? --Kareshii 20:16, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

The black bits must be the remains of that rich Necromancer wearing obsidian armor that he just got done chopping up..--Kareshii 20:50, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
TBH this could actually be a necro. The armor is a little bit iffy, but look at the face and hair: It looks very necroey. Plus a necro can dual-wield daggers, too. I'd rather like to think of it as an assassin though. :D - ThatOneGuyUser ThatOneGuy TOGss.png 02:11, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
If it had a green background it would easily be considered a Ranger with Daggers. Sklv55 22:42, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Stealth[edit]

So it seems that Gw2 will have somekind of stealth mechanic: "Eric Flannum: The Snow Leopard can gain stealth, and the ability to stun guys when it attacks from the rear, and things like that." --I AmLegion talk 20:43, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Me liek… I'll bet shadow form will be recreated using that ,,"Klumpeet",, 20:46, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Please, don't mention Shadow Form... We should leave these things behind us. ;) --Odal talk 20:48, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, I think that the term "Shadow Form" implies stealth. As stealth is not a game mechanic in GW1, their implementation of the skill suffered greatly, and resulted in umpteen nerfs of the GW1 skill. Now, as stealth has been inferred as a game mechanic in several interviews about GW2, "Shadow Form" could make an appearance in GW2 whereby it would work as it does in other mmorpg's. That is, while in stealth mode, read "Shadow Form," one could move about with minimal detection by nearby beings. (They would still have a chance of detecting you based on time of day, gear carried, etc.) Attacking would negate it, and unlike it's GW1 counterpart, it would not give any defense against attacks. Basically, what I'm saying is, "Shadow Form" would simply be used as the name of your stealth activation skill. (I can't think of a better name for stealth mode than "Shadow Form.")--Warzog Watch your six! 22:35, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
If Assassin (If they're in the game..) get a stealth mechanic, would it not make sense for a ranger, or even a mesmer to get something along those lines? --Kareshii 20:52, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Many bad skills are coming back better than before. So I wouldn't doubt that Shadow Form would return in a completely different... form. @Kareshii: I'm doubtful that Assassins - if they return in some form - would be the only one without stealth if there is such a mechanic. -- Konig/talk 20:54, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
I wouldnt mind seeing Shadow Form coming back in GW2 if it was a skill that lets u escape or evade enemies by melding into the environment such as the ground, walls, ect. even an enemies' shadow while moving but cannot attack or deal dmg until the skill is disabled or an enemy does some form of AoE dmg or attack to ur shadow or pulls it out of the ground. - 74.171.163.219 06:00, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Maybe Shadow Form as a "downed" skill, like what they've done with Mist Form? I just don't see how either of these would have a way of bringing you back once you have been defeated.--Kareshii 17:03, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
The Skill says it itself :Shadow Form, it's only a shadow of your total form, only a part of the hole, and that part of course being the best part which means you have enough power to stand up again :D ow man it would be so nice if you were a smokey cloudlike representation of yourself when you'd use that skill and regenerating your body slowly completing your true form and then GIANT FLASH every one in the area gets blinded bcause you're to awesome to behold (scrap that last) xDPrince Grazel 22:10, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
It would be very cool to have SF returning as the main mechanic for the assassin/rogue profession. After all, the elementalist mechanic is based on 4 different skills from GW1 and it would be a wink to GW1 players who know how assassin farmers worked, to have it as the main mechanic for every assassin... not neccesarily the same skill, but some sort of stealth thing.77.228.17.165 22:58, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but it needs to be said. SF is a joke and ruined PVE. So I hope that if there is an assassin-type class, I hope that there will be no return of such a gimmicky skill. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 01:08, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
I agree Venom. Anyone who used SF to farm in it's prime is now one of the people who have HoM's full of Tormented weapons, Obby armor, Chaos gloves, and GWAMM. People who played professions that were more difficult to farm were stuck progressing normally. Although the most recent "nerf" has stopped a lot of SF farming (although now they can run any area in the game, but w/e) It still irritated me that Anet let SF run rampant for so long. I'm going to pray that it doesn't return, nor does any skill have a similar ability. EiveTalk 01:31, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Honestly, I would be very... displeased... if SF was the assassin's unique game mechanic. I would much rather see critical strikes and/or dual attacks and/or a floating chain attack skill being their unique mechanic. –~=Ϛρѧякγ AHHH! (τѧιк) ←♥– 04:51, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

(reset)While I can see why SF shouldn't return at least with the same mechanic, I think that at least the name should be conserved just because it was one of the most emblematic skills from GW1. Lokheit 09:24, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

PC Gamer article[edit]

"In the cases of some of our future professions that we haven’t talked about yet – in cases where we felt the profession was just too different – we would actually rename the profession to something else." So, possibly assassin, but with a new name? CelleyBear 05:53, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

In Ghosts of Ascalon, they describe a Rouge-like profession, who's specialty was in detecting and disarming traps. I would find it odd if they kept the assassin name with that kind of description. EiveTalk 06:54, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I can see them renamed as "duelists" or something like that, with some sort of combos mechanic that empower them as 1 vs. 1 DPS (the more times you hit the same enemy the more beneficial effects you gain against him). Lokheit 09:29, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Farfetched, but Necro?[edit]

The necro can dual wield daggers. --Life Infusion «T» 03:13, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

True, but the necro has it's own image, and colour scheme, which is dark green, not pure black. Reez 19:49, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, so far all profession reveal images have been sharpened, edited versions from this series of art. Based on the trend, these images will be mutually exclusive. Also, the character's armor resembles that which the ranger has been seen wearing. Far-fetched, but not entirely out-of-the-question. –~=Ϛρѧякγ AHHH! (τѧιк) ←♥– 03:18, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Sylvari?[edit]

You know, considering the Sylvari has some members of their race with white hair, and others have relatively spikey hair (like grass?) could it possibly be that this is a male Sylvari of one of the adventurer classes? 68.144.77.185 22:16, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

It is still imperfect concept art. I don't think Anet artists would go through the trouble of giving it white hair just to confuse us. EiveTalk 02:49, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Artists don't go through any trouble to give something white hair; quite the opposite, in fact. Hair color is rather irrelevant, since humans can have any hair color and the image is monochromatic brown. It could be blond hair, for all we know. Either way, we all seem to agree that it is hair, which sylvari do not have (any hair they could have would be very short). –~=Ϛρѧякγ AHHH! (τѧιк) ←♥– 02:58, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Sylvari don't have hair? I realize they don't have hair in the biological sense as we see it, but still... Also, I would be willing to believe this is human too, honestly I don't think there is enough detail in this picture to make any accurate assumptions. EiveTalk 03:02, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
