Hmm.. looks good, apart from something in the sysop section - "Sysops are expected to have and utilize a reasonable amount of discretion in their actions" and "Sysops are generally considered to be autonomous". It has to be be "either or"; it's either they have a reasonable amount of discretion, or they are totally autonomous and a 'force unto themselves'.

Also, it's quite.. flimsy (for lack of a better word), with "generally" and "expected" popping up. If that is the case, I would expect a lot of "you can't do that" or "policy says you aren't allowed" appearing in the future. Although, that may be me just being pessimistic...-- Brains12Talk 15:27, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Well this is just supposed to be an early draft, but I agree that policies should be clear on what they mean. Adittionally, I'd like to see more on policies, since it's unclear how they would be made. The policy mentions misconduct, but that's dependant on what right conduct is, so who decides that is of significant importance. Backsword 08:23, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Sysops can utilize a reasonable amount of discretion and still be autonomous. Reasonable discretion = blocking a troll who hasn't directly violated policies. Reasonable discretion isn't blocking Joe User because the sysop didn't like his userpage. In both cases, the sysop is autonomous. "Reasonable" isn't as limiting as you make it out to be; reasonable just keeps it in the realm of "sane."
Policies are not laws. They should not be crafted without loopholes - then you just get into the same retardedness we did on GWW with people like raptors finding them and exploiting them. If an admin (who is acting autonomously and with reasonable discretion) sees a disruptive user wikilawyering to get out of a ban, the admin can ban him anyway - based on the spirit of the policy and for the good of the wiki.
(P.S. - note how it says "generally" autonomous. That means a sysop can be a cop all he wants, and he'll be fine; as soon as he oversteps his boundaries by harassing users or performing unjust blocks, Bureaucrats will step in and perform the duty entrusted to their charge.) -Auron 14:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
