Hey Shew...[edit]

moved from User talk:Shewmake
Shew, can you please make in your userpage layout Default skill link directly to Skill? I managed to do it on my rough draft template. I'm tempted to change the skill template on your userpage code because on this, I managed to make an independent skill interchange. :)
Infi, I think I solved the problem to the breaking... I want to make every image baseline, on the code, to a nice resolution of 50x50px but inorder to do that, I need the image of the actual skill bar to fit it. It should fit nicely together with the Default skill as a trial. then try Shield Bash as another trial. Of course this is not Shew's template I want you to mess around but User:Lucian Shadowborn/sandbox/skill template. Once it all works, there should be no more line breakage. I did discover that doing this also results in no line breakup:
  • As you can tell, all skills are now independent and can be placed willynilly. Shew, mind changing userpage skill template coding to match? - Lucian User Lucian.png 19:35, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
On other pages.. not really worth showing here.. Can see what I intended on this. - Lucian User Lucian.png 19:44, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I can be brief about why it breaks: The skill bar is designed directly from in-game screenshots. The skills are displayed at a 50 x 51 resolution. As long as skill icons scale into those resolutions, no breaking occurs.
Your Default skill icon is at 49px × 47px (scaled to 50px × 48px) resolution, whereas HoW is 50x51. The former breaks, whereas the latter remains intact. :) - Infinite - talk 19:45, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Two equal skills bars above eachother should -in theory- not break. - Infinite - talk 19:46, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
I just proved myself wrong. It's a Wiki-line issue. I can see you're trying a clear, but I doubt it'll work, personally. - Infinite - talk 19:50, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
I got it to work. :) - Lucian User Lucian.png 19:51, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
You are brilliant. =D - Infinite - talk 19:52, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Why, thank you. It seems to only work up to 3 to 5... But I mean, thats just in ne inside code. It could work up to a couple more. :) - Lucian User Lucian.png 20:00, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Perhaps if I reduce the bottom part by 1 pixel, it will avoid the line breaking... But I severely doubt that. - Infinite - talk 20:02, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Actually, that wouldn't work, as we already changed the bottom part to have floating numbers. :P - Infinite - talk 20:03, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I'm not even sure why it's taking me to Default skill. Shouldn't it be directing users to [[:File:Skill.jpg]]? I'll redirect it to see if that works.-- Shew 20:04, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I made it a direct link, not a redirect. I do want the optional Default skill icon to go to skill through a direct link but it could work just making Default skill page and redirecting it to Skill.. no biggy. - Lucian User Lucian.png 20:08, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

When I click on the default image from the skill template, it takes me to the skill page, but when I click on it from my user page, it takes me to default skill. It doesn't look like any parameters have been changed, and I tried refreshing, but that doesn't seem to be working. I'll keep looking.-- Shew 20:12, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) You will have to revert the upload to Shield Bash. Keep the best resolution possible and I'll get it on with Navimg coding to complete my own template. It's trickier, but I'll get there and then everything works fine. :) Resizing = better than lower res.- Infinite - talk 20:13, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Nvm about the images...I'm an idiot.-- Shew 20:15, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Lol.. I was looking at it, thinking: "Hope he knows it looks exactly the same...quality wise ;)" - Lucian User Lucian.png 20:16, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Nvm...still confused. I'm not sure how to handle the lack of a parameter for the user page template because then that'll screw the skill template's default assignment up.-- Shew 20:21, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) User:Infinite/Sandbox/Skillbar Almost done. - Infinite - talk 20:22, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Magic. - Infinite - talk 20:31, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

I'll fix the top row for numbers now. Haha. - Infinite - talk 20:31, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Can you please make them independent? Like how my version had? :) - Lucian User Lucian.png 20:35, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh! and make the background skillbar images unclickable. :) - Lucian User Lucian.png 20:37, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Could you elaborate that for me, please? :) - Infinite - talk 20:39, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Ok... make it function as mine did. With independent so that I can rearrange my skills willynilly. - Lucian User Lucian.png 20:44, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm not really sure what you want me to do, the coding for use is exactly the same, isn't it? - Infinite - talk 20:50, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Hold on... I'll make the change to your sandbox including a pre function. - Lucian User Lucian.png 20:52, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
See, it already worked as intended. :P - Infinite - talk 20:59, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) No.. not that.. Look here, my template is exactly the same as yours with the exception of the willinillie-ness.. - Lucian User Lucian.png 21:00, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Could you explain what "willinillie-ness" means, though? :P - Infinite - talk 21:03, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Lol... ok... As you can tell by the edited code on my sandbox, I can freely change skill 1 without affecting skill 3 (by making skill 3 missing) Also, I can have no skill in the middle of my skill bar without it affecting others. Plus... it's also easier to understand when making a skill template. - Lucian User Lucian.png 21:07, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I haven't thought about that. I will need to figure out why it doesn't work when editting in not all skills... - Infinite - talk 21:14, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Just copy my modified code? :) Im working on shews userpage template.. I will revert but I wanna see what happens. - Lucian User Lucian.png 21:15, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Right now, 1 through 9 are "skill 1" through "skill 9" and 10 is normal. - Infinite - talk 21:21, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
I fixed the above template so that I can see.. 6 should be skill 6... 10... lets keep it skill 10... :) - Lucian User Lucian.png 21:24, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Can I suggest moving the final tempplate to the mainspace too? ShadowRunner 21:27, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) I removed "skill" though, it's a tad redundant:

The problem is, it won't use the "Default skill" icon when left open.... - Infinite - talk 21:28, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
And no, we are discussing keeping no-formatting Wiki templates in userspace. :) - Infinite - talk 21:28, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Here, lemme take a whack at it. I like "1-10" better. :) - Lucian User Lucian.png 21:30, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
We need to fix the new breaking line, the top numbers part. Haha. - Infinite - talk 21:35, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Fixed. - Infinite - talk 21:40, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Haha oh joy... So far it looks like we need to just put Default skill as a placeholder... - Lucian User Lucian.png 21:39, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

It would appear so... So my s1 through s10 option is the best medium? :P - Infinite - talk 21:40, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Yup. Kk.. I'm going to link my template as a redirect to yours and fix shew's userpage one last time. :) - Lucian User Lucian.png 21:42, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Done.. also... shouldn;t we move this discussion to the talk page of the template? It has nothing to do with Shew anymore and we kinda spammed him.. - Lucian User Lucian.png 21:52, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, please feel free to move what is applicable and such. I'm still fidgeting with the code (the height of the icons won't budge). :) - Infinite - talk 21:55, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I can't force dimensions to 50x51... I don't understand why. - Infinite - talk 22:08, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

It's not the template but the actual icon files themselves. When I made Sheild Bash smaller, it fit perfectly. - Lucian User Lucian.png 22:09, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I've been busy pretty much all day. Otherwise, I would have been more active in this discussion. :p-- Shew 00:32, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Numbers[edit]

I know how much work has gone into fixing the numbers, but tbh, do we really even need them in the wiki template? The purpose of the numbers is to tell players what key to press, which leaves their presence on the template w/o much significance.-- Shew 19:34, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

No, they're not required at all, I just integrated them initially because they overlap the skill and I wanted to reflect the bar in-game. Seeing how that doesn't work currently, we can leave them out of the template for now. :) - Infinite - talk 19:43, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

The upcoming changes[edit]

Heya folks! As I mentioned on various talk pages before, I will improve my skill bar template today. So before I do so and things might break for a while, I thought I'd inform users of the upcoming changes in version 2.0.

  • Version 2.0 will include a couple of new parameters and a change in function for the first 5 skills on the skill bar;
    • Skills will be displayed based on main hand and off hand weapon choices in conjunction with profession. That said, you will no longer be able to have (let's say;) elementalist's main hand dagger skills combined with ranger's off-hand axe skills.
      • I will provide users with a version 1.x skill bar, to allow joyride builds.
    • The skill bar will feature weapon swapping. In short; clicking the weapon swap icon will change your skill bar to display your other weapon set skills. The second half of the skill bar remains unchanged, for obvious reasons.
      • If you specify a weapon that your profession can not equip, all weapon skills for that slot will remain locked.
    • The elementalist and future single-set professions will no longer have access to the weapon swap icon. Elementalists have four attunements instead, on a different location, which I can not implement at this point in time. In turn, I ask you all to use multiple single set skill bars to display your differently attuned skill bars. A later version will deal with this issue and include all four attunements on 1 bar.
      • I have yet to design these buttons graphically and I am waiting on PAX East high resolution screenshots that allow me to do so. In the mean time, I can cheat and create a similar system.

If there are other changes to the skill bar, I will naturally inform you here. I hope the outcome is to your liking. - Infinite - talk 13:30, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

(You could work on it in a sandbox so that it doesn't break!) Regardless, looking forward to the updates!!-- Shew 13:31, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

I will not[edit]

Make this main template a portal template yet, but it will become one in the future. - Infinite - talk 19:42, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

This project[edit]

Is on temporary hiatus until I fully understand how using mediawiki.css could make this coding concise and exact, yet easy to alter for upcoming changes. Until then, enjoy the User:Infinite/Template:Skills/Elementalist operating elementalist skill bar and the standard weapon swapping templates for the other professions (User:Infinite/Sandbox/Skillbar/Guardian guardian, User:Infinite/Sandbox/Skillbar/Necromancer necromancer, etc). - Infinite - talk 12:49, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
