Build discussion[edit]

Hi, I figured I might as well create an account for communicating with. You might have seen my name on your thread already, haha. Anyway, my thief is currently level 50, so I'm not quite at the level to use it yet, though I'm gathering the mats and equipment to start using it at level 60 when I can use a grandmaster manual. I even have enough tokens to craft the armour required, haha.

Questions I do have...

  1. Cleric's weapons? I remember seeing in an earlier revision of your build that you had berserker weapons. Is the change in damage or survivability noticeable?
  2. Jewelry choices. You have Emerald jewelry with slotted Ruby jewels. Did you basically have to make the Ruby jewels (if you upgraded them into Exquisite) and then slot them manually into the Emerald jewelry?

Thanks again for the build. It fitted the concept I had in mind more than dagger/dagger, which was my initial choice after thinking sword was a weapon almost restricted for PvP/WvW, with the teleport, haha. IceBlink 05:44, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I used to take Berserker's weapons. However, I also took emerald jewels in my jewelry. Jewels are the most efficient way to get crit damage. You give up 5 stats per 1% crit damage on jewels, as opposed to 12.8/14.2 points for weapons. This means it makes more sense to take defensive weapons and get my offense from jewels. I honestly went for cleric because they're the cheapest exotic weapons by far and I'm constantly broke. It's bad to have vitality on your weapons (because you lose that when you swap weapons), but precision/toughness/power would work for weapons as well. Cleric was just easy to get and gave my build a little more stat variety. The change in damage from my jewels is very noticeable, but the change in defense from my weapons is less so. Still, overall, the switch made my build better.
That's exactly what I did with jewels. I am a jewelcrafter and cook, so I was able to make all of my own jewelry and jewels. I made five pieces of exotic emerald jewelry, and then made five exotic ruby jewels to slot into them.   -Dacromir 15:21, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Just thought I'd update on my usage of it. I'm at level 74, and currently at 0/0/30/14/20. While dagger offhand is great, I've found keeping a pistol for stuff like certain dungeons is also handy, as it has a quick interrupt skill for AC dungeons. Even so, the ability to go into stealth and then daze the enemy providing I have enough initiative to do it without worrying about cooldowns is nice. As soon as I was able to, I started using knight's armor, and valkyrie rings in an impression of the soldier's armor I have waiting for me at 80, haha. I also switched out Blind Powder for the signet to move you faster when passive purely for travelling purposes most of the time.

So, as an alternative, maybe having one cleric weapon and one berserker or knight weapon would be a good compromise? You might want to make a note of possible alternate weapon types in your guide. :D IceBlink 18:36, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

On rune of the water, you have +15% boon duration, however in game it says +15. Was wondering if you're noticed this since the guide was made, and maybe switch runes to a different one. Or could it be a typo and in fact does apply +15% Shrapner 08:37, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
