Needs more info. How do they work? First one to open gets it? Can only the player who got it see it? Can anyone loot it? 217.226.204.48

It works the same way as Bag of Loot on WvW - only you see it and only can pick it up. MalGalad 15:29, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Appearance[edit]

I haven't done any scientific research on this, but I have noticed that these seem to appear most often after winning a particularly lopsided battle. If I down 6 or more mobs in one battle, I actually look around for one of these to appear. (And sometimes you really have to look with the left CTRL key; if not you may not even notice them.) They seem to have an internal cooldown, as I won't see another one again soon after winning a similar battle. They also seem completely unrelated to Steel Chests, which almost always appear after downing a Champion or finishing some events, and I have seen a Wooden Chest also appear at the same time. -- 184.187.245.5 10:23, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations, you've discovered how probability works! It's all based on the chance of a rare item dropping. Say this chance is 20% (which is probably much higher than reality) - if you kill 1 foe, then you'll get a rare drop (which the Wooden Chest signifies) about 1 time out of 5, on average. On the other hand, if you kill 5 foes, then you should expect 1 of those 5 foes to drop a rare item, on average.
The Steel Chests from champions are different - if you're level 80, then the champion is guaranteed (I think?) to drop an exotic champion loot bag, which is represented by a Steel Chest. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:16, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
