Results from 50 salvages with a Master's Salvage Kit:

  • 83 total
  • 77 Mithril Ore
  • 6 Orichalcum Ore
Those data can't be utilized, unfortunately, because you are summing up the total number of items output, instead of counting the number of salvage actions. Don't worry about how many items are produced, only count which kind of item was produced. Example: out of 100 salvages, 75 produced mithril and 25 produced orichalcum (75 + 25 = 100). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 05:33, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
The data can certainly be utilized. The amount produced is very important, because it affects the average value of the results. In an extreme case of your example, there's a big difference between getting 25 ori and 75 mithril vs 25 ori and 300 mithril. I would say that the data above are more useful than what you have proposed. 75.37.20.28 06:55, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
I agree with Ishamel. This data is certainly NOT as useful as data that gives the % recovery of ori and % recovery of mithril after using a salvage kit many times. In fact, lacking that, this data is pretty useless. Did the 6 ori come from one kit use or from 6 kit uses, or somewhere in between? The % recovery of ori could be anywhere between 2% and 12%, so who knows what the profitability of using master kits on these items is. Once you know the % recovery of ori, knowing the average value is useful if you're salvaging a whole bunch, but without the % recovery this data is worthless. I came to this article looking for the rate of recovery of ori to see if it was worthwhile to salvage or if I should just trade it, but this data doesn't help much.
Both types of data are statistically valuable. One gives you the average value and the other gives you material variance. Different players are looking for different data. 76.253.0.17 17:43, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
It's not valuable to the wiki, which wants to calculate the probability rather than average--Relyk ~ talk > 20:08, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
we know that each salvage gives 1 - 3 scraps of silk, however each piece of scrap can only output one orichalcum per salvage. we know the OP salvaged 100 times, and obtained 13 orichalcum. therefore, we can safely say that 87 salvages gave silk. as with the master, only 6 gave orichalcum, therefore, 44 gave silk. this works with any tier six salvage items. Can the valuable scrap metal only give 1 orichalcum ore or is the drop count variable? If it can only give one, you can easily deduce the probabilties of mithril and orichalcum regardless of the drop counts on mithril, you would get: nTotal - nOric = nMithril; where n = number of bags looted. -- Axolotl 14:09:36 20th April 2013 (UTC)

Posting the entire loot sequence seems kinda obscene. If you really want it post on my talk page or just mail me in-game, I doubt there's anything to find such as trends though.

Edit: For the shitsngiggles I checked what profit I made considering all costs of resources, tools and fees. 1000 Kits (88c/25 each) + 1000 Salvage items (81c each), Assuming Sell price: Mithril=39c;Orichalcum=322c (Listing fee included), It's odd how the actual profit is 1.8c higher than the theoretical profit, the theoretical profit is based on non-rounded numbers, so TP must round listing fee at a certain point :S

Theoretical ratio (Mithril=39c;Orichalcum=322c)

  • Total cost: 8.452g
  • Total profit: 9.13752g

Actual ratio (Mithril=39c;Orichalcum=322c)

  • Total cost: 8.452g
  • Total profit: 9.1377g

I hope this might help the approximate drop-rates (Could use a lot more input) -- Axolotl 15:52:49 (UTC) 20th April 2013 (UTC)
