this seems to be a direct reference to Pokemon, with Hyperbeam being an actual move ingame, and Alpha being the Alpha Pokemon AKA "Arceus" the God Pokemon the beam actually looks like the hyperbeam of the original game, and the show as well. would someone like to add this as trivia? 24.98.218.93 00:05, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

It seems more likely to be a reference to the Hyper Beam from the Metroid series. It first appeared at the end of Super Metroid (image), and fired beams that closely resemble the beam in this weapon. It later appeared in the Metroid Prime games, retaining its light blue appearance, but showing the energy coursing through Samus's weapon (image).

Also, the Hyper Beam attack in the pokemon series is almost always red (or black and white in the original). The only game that I can find in which it was light blue is Super Smash Bros Brawl when Deoxys uses it. talk 21:35, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
