Talk:Hints
Editing notes[edit]
I used "Hints" as the page title since that is what the panel in-game is called, otherwise I wouldn't use the plural. Maybe the intro should be rewritten a bit to emphasize that, but I'm tired.
Wiki-links are as complete as I could make them while typing everything at 100+ wpm. I tried to adhere to the one-link-per-section rule, but go ahead and correct anything I overlinked; also add links where I missed anything.
The achievement says there are 82 hints, but I see 83 listed. The achievement also says I have 77 unlocked, where I count 78, so obviously there's 1 hint I unlocked that is too "special" to be part of the achievement.
I don't know what category to put this in, maybe Game mechanics? —Dr Ishmael 05:15, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
Got hint completion achievement sans Gem Store hint or any such purchases. While that seems reasonable to be excluded from requirements, someone more assertive will need to either add a note or collect corroborating anecdotes. soup 09:15, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Seriously broken[edit]
As of December 7th 2012, there are a grand total of 84 hints. 83 are required for the achievement. I have all of them checked, which puts me on 81/83. Everything about this achievement is wrong for my account (and according to the history, various others'), so I'll change the article and bug template with up-to-date information. - Infinite - talk 22:03, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- I had noticed something which may or may not be related. Some hints which I know I've gotten before refused to count themselves in either the achievement count or the hints panel, for example "you completed a zone, click here for your reward chest!" Obviously I've seen that pop up like a hundred times after getting multiple characters to 80, but the hint would never count as having appeared. Then one day, I had the crazy idea to click on the hint bubble itself instead of the chest or the [x] to dismiss it. Lo and behold, the hint was unlocked and I got +1 to progress. I picked up several other hints this way once I'd figured it out, such as "your armor needs repairs/is broken!" - I mean, I can't be the only one who just ignores that and goes to the repairs NPC.
- I only need one or two more to finish the achievement (which is currently accurately reflecting my progress), so if it bugs for me as well...it'll be unfortunate. It's surprisingly hard to get random strangers to send you 10 spam mail for the "mailbox is full" hint. Vili 点 22:59, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
Unlocking issues[edit]
Here are two that I think I should have gotten, but didn't.
- Gem Store Purchase - can you get this with free (0-gem) items like the festival hats? If not, they coded this specifically to detect the nature of the item? Or what actually triggers it?
- Mailbox is Full - I'm at 10/10 right now (after the patch). Does this only trigger if the system detects an 11th message incoming? Prior to the patch I had some NPC emails that were blocking but not counted (a well known bug, e.g. displays 7/10 but had 3 NPC emails that did not auto-delete and counted toward the 10). I did have messages in my backlog as well, deleting down to 6/10 would allow them to appear. So I've definitely experienced the full and full+queue condition but not 10/10+queue and dunno if that bug affects the unlocking.

- The mailbox one only triggers on player mails, not NPC mails, and yes, you have to receive an 11th mail for it to trigger. I don't know about the other one. —Dr Ishmael 06:02, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- I've now verified (in my case anyway) that even after the counting bug was fixed, some non-player mails will count and others will not. Mail from the store or customer support seems to count, whereas mail from an in-game NPC and the PvP tournament master does not. You only need to fill up the inbox to 10, you don't need an 11th mail to be queued. 76.253.0.17 15:07, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
- I was having issues with this as well today, so for anyone else having problems here's what I did to get it: I had 10 player mails (with an 11th that had been sent to me that wasn't visible) and a heart mail. Upon deleting the heart mail, I got the hint and unlocked the achievement. --Neofalcon (talk) 01:00, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

- I discovered that you must have a full mailbox, have someone send an 11th mail, then delete one of your 10 in order to receive the 11th. 108.28.172.86 23:40, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
So now what?[edit]
Hints no longer show up for me, and I have them all checked off. What can I do to get those 10 acheesement points? 76.105.103.27 01:10, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- It's bugged, I'm suffering from it too. —Dr Ishmael 01:39, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Which hints missing...[edit]
So 82/83 hints, and it appears that with the new way of showing achievments, you can no longer see a list of which hints you & have not done... --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 23:31, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- You can still look through the Hints panel for ones without a check mark beside them. -- Dagger (talk) 12:23, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
I have the issue too. I am at 82/83 Hints and Hint Panel->Social 66% ->"Mailbox is Full" Hint didn't work... --84.1.202.89 15:20, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
There are new hints from the HoT beta[edit]
I'm not sure if they should be added here yet or not. Opinions? I have screens of some if anyone thinks they should be added. Ikarus (talk) 07:53, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Very nice. But since they are related to something not fully released yet I think it's better to not put them on the page for the time being, since not everyone would have access to them in-game yet. --Txon Atana - (talk) 11:21, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
