The boost is chosen by the person who spawns it - your skills 1, 2 and 3 change to XP, Magic Find and Karma to allow you to set the state of the bonfire. — snograt 15:09, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

You can not choose the same boost if you have a Communal boost of the same kind. For example. You can't choose Magic Find if you already have an Communal boost Magic find.
