Reward chest[edit]

I don't know where exactly (I'd say the Rewards section), but we need to add info about the chest and it's content somewhere in this page.

First time rewards[edit]

It says on the wiki that you only get the mask the first time per character but that's not the case that I am getting. I was just wondering if that is a typo in the wiki or if it's a bug - Shades (talk) 03:14, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

  • Character 1 completed 8x got 7 masks, 25 candy corn
  • Character 2 completed 1x got mask
  • Character 3 completed 1x got 10 candy corn
It’s a bug. ANet confirmed that there is something wrong with the rewards and they are working on a fix. poke | talk 12:08, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
ANet Released a Patch Oct. 30th, 2013 that fixed this bug. --Ryoko Nine Winters (talk) 03:04, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
It's still bugged, My guildmate got multiple masks earlier today. Felix Omni Signature.png 04:32, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
I got 10 bags of candy corn my first time. No idea what happened there.--Relyk ~ talk < 04:40, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
There was a bug that prevented people from getting the mask with a character that had acquired the Witch's Hat last year from this event. It was possible to get the mask with another character. It was fixed and I think that is why people are getting another mask now, it just thinks it's your first time doing this event again. Rakuin (talk) 13:19, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
Today, I did 4 perfect runs on the same character, 4 masks, no bags (Ducilia Nightarrow (talk) 17:00, 1 November 2013 (UTC))

Schedule / Timing[edit]

It would be nice to have a note on the schedule and timing of the event to help people avoid sitting around in LA wasting time until the event. The chat record on a character I had parked in LA for the event showed three occurrences: 03:45, 04:30, and 05:20 or one 45m gap and one 50m gap. Due to the 5m variance I suspect it has a "spawn window" like many world events -- guessing 45m closed and 15m open, but it really could be anything at all that included 45m & 50m within the open phase. Okuza (talk) 12:51, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

What I have figured, the event occurs every 1,5 hours. Not absolutely sure but haven't failed me yet. Rakuin (talk) 13:19, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
I first saw him arrive at around 1:45am or 1:50am and then again just at now at 2:40am Lady Elyssa (talk) 01:41, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Just ended at 18:34 Eastern...when the timer shows it should have run from 18:00 to 18:10. If there is still a 2 hour interval, it should start again a bit after 20:20 will check and append to this comment. Separ (talk) 22:47, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Just ended at 19:14 (eastern), 11:14 PM (server) ...every 45 minutes ? Separ (talk) 23:38, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
I've just seen two events in close succession on the same map. One started on the hour (server time 18:00); the other I only noticed as I was running around, but it ended on the half hour or thereabouts, so I'd guess it started at around 18:20. I wonder whether they've made it more frequent this year? Doghouse13 (talk) 20 October 2023

Mad King Says: page vs redirect[edit]

I feel like the game of Mad King Says deserves its own page, rather than as a redirect to the event. Perhaps we could include this event in the page? This page doesn't include that much information about the game itself, just the event. Thrain | contribs 23:37, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

This is the name of the event, this is where it should be documented. That's the entire point of redirects - so that people can search for common names or nicknames for things and still get to the properly-named article. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 03:37, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
You can absolutely expand this article to also explain the game. In case the event documentation conflicts too much with the game description, and the game description itself gets large enough to justify its own article, I wouldn’t mind having it on Mad King Says, and this being just a pure technical event documentation. poke | talk 15:49, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Excessive knockdown effect radius[edit]

Is it worth mentioning that, although the game is supposedly played in Grand Piazza (and indeed, anyone actually playing gathers there), the radius in which players can be knocked down for not responding is far larger, encompassing nearly a third of the city and extends to the southern edge of the bank pavillion, the two easternmost crafting stations, and the BL trading post? Don't believe me? Stand in the TP when a game is going on, and watch EVERYBODY trying to conduct business get knocked down simultaneously while obviously not participating in the game. I've filed numerous bug reports, but nothing has changed. Apparently Anet considers this a "feature" rather than a "bug"? I can't imagine what the purpose of such a "feature" is, other than to annoy players who choose not to play YMKS. 73.180.196.185 13:58, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Feedback 2016/10/18[edit]

It seems it's every two hours on the odd hour UTC this year. Or...I can't tell time. Sigh. --Inculpatus cedo (talk) 20:22, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Feedback 2016/11/01[edit]

Is the note in Bug: Using ANY during..... correct? Does it mean the emote /any (which doesn't exist), or is the word emote missing?. --Inculpatus cedo (talk) 10:21, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

The latter, I presume. Thanks for pointing this out! User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 11:26, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Yes emote was missing. My bad. Konig (talk) 12:42, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Feedback 2018/10/20[edit]

In bugs section : "Even though Are you getting tired of this? Do you want me to leave? You'd better say NO! is a trick line, the Mad King will knock you down if you do nothing. This does not count as a miss, though.". I just completed the event, he used this line, but did not known people down (except a few who used the emote). Maybe we should remove the bug. --Eowin (talk) 22:16, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

Feedback 2021/10/07[edit]

using any emote during a "trick" line will knock you down and counts as a miss. This is no longer true as of 2021. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 45.131.194.220 (talk) at 22:53, 7 October 2021 (UTC).

Feedback 2021/10/21[edit]

The new Weekly Halloween achievement might be added, as well. --Inculpatus cedo (talk) 17:54, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Good point, added. DJemba (talk) 18:00, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Feedback 2022/10/22[edit]

Possible bug. Today, after I changed the map by volunteering Volunteer's Blessing the event was underway at an unusual time 8:30 UTC. Normally, it should take place every two hours at a full hour, not at half an hour. I accumulated 6 stacks of Mad King's Favor, which is enough for 1 key fragment. After being teleported to the cauldron, I obtained the silver medal, but I did not receive the Mad King's Chest Key Fragment at all.--LilianaM (talk) 09:39, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

  • Update: I stayed on the same map for an hour and the event reward popup appeared after an hour. --LilianaM (talk) 10:31, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Mad King Says doe snot redirect to Your Mad King says ... CAN it please?[edit]

I have a suggestion. I have known a few people searching wiki for when Mad King Says is but can't find it. I realized just now that it is because typing /wiki Mad King Says into GW2 chat does not bring you to THIS Your Mad King says... page. Can we please add a redirect for that search term? Thank you! I know only how to do basic things in wiki but not redirects. --KatieBoom (talk) 16:46, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

The redirect "Mad King Says" redirects to this page since 2013. ~Sime 16:56, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
