Mobility Advice[edit]

Perhaps the mobility advice, such as optimal profession-specific skills, should be moved to a separate page, which can be referenced by any race page. And then, on this page, it can simply list which professions can and cannot complete the race using their own skills. —Karob • 01:07, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Hidden Achievement[edit]

Someone was asking in game about a hidden achievement for finishing the race as a dog. Anyone hear about this? SarielV 20 x 20px 09:42, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Just had someone else claim there is a hidden one for finishing it as a cat, using the Endless Cat Tonic. SarielV 20 x 20px 10:01, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
That's interesting - in The Great Race from Chinese folklore the cat wasn't able to finish the race thus not becoming a zodiac animal. Seems like there is finally a reason for me to get the tonic. Sime (talk) 13:33, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
Just finished the race two times (once as a random cat from the tonic, 2nd time as the domestic cat) and got 0 hidden achievements. Sime (talk) 14:23, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
That's why I ask here. Sorry for causing you to blow your money :/ SarielV 20 x 20px 19:07, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
Nah no worries, still got plenty of laurels. Though I would really appreciate a tonic storage at this point... Sime (talk) 19:10, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
For future reference, hidden achievements can be found easily using GW2 efficiency, which allows you to filter by hidden status. My understanding is that if even only a single person has unlocked a hidden achievement, it becomes visible in the API for the entire community, and will thus show up on GW2 efficiency. (I might be misinformed though.) --Idris (talk) 19:26, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
Isn't always the case, API can be behind with the information or not updated yet. Sime (talk) 20:03, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
Good to know, thanks! -Idris (talk) 21:22, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

5.5 Minute Goal on foot with ranger[edit]

Have to say I missed the achievement by 1 second while doing the achievement on core ranger (had Leader of the Pact III, Quickening Zephyr), so it might be possible without any mistakes. Sime (talk) 13:33, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

* What skills did you use?
* What benefit do you get from Quickening Zephyr? If you have Leader of the Pact III, then the superspeed component shouldn't have any effect. And I'm under the impression that the quickness doesn't affect leap skills.
* I was nowhere near the time limit using just permanent swiftness and greatsword Swoop. I tried also chaining (turn around) -> Lightning Reflexes -> Hornet Sting -> (turn around) -> Monarch's Leap, but it frequently bugged out if I didn't wait long enough between each action (and was also difficult to perform smoothly).

I am aware the leader swiftness overrides anything else, it is just a habit of mine using another speed skills with it. I didn't use any other movement skills from the weapons etc though, only dodge and gliding. The sprinting icon disappeared right before the finish line. EDIT: Also when I did it using the cat tonic, I missed the limit by about 5 seconds with mistakes while running. Sime (talk) 15:06, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
Sounds like you'd get there with ranger greatsword rush. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:12, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
This is definitely achievable on any class. I was able to finish on a core ranger with 3 seconds to spare, using Leader of the Pact III as my only movement aid. (No gliding or skill use; I just ran the shortest path to each checkpoint. No mistakes.) When I added Swoop to the equation, I finished with 19 seconds to spare. --Idris (talk) 21:22, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
Huh. This blows my mind. Thanks for the corrections. I have no idea why I couldn't get the achieve while using Swoop yesterday. I got the achieve time just now with pure running. I might have started from the NPC instead of the start zone, since the game keeps disqualifying me despite waiting around a full second after "Go" to start. —Karob • 01:05, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, no, I don't see how this can even be close to attainable at this point. I have run it several times, using the three ranger speed buffing skills -- Quickening Zephyr, Signet of the Hunt, and Strength of the Pack, re-applying them when their cooldown wore off, and despite this my best time ends right about the time I get to to bank/Trading company at the top of the big ramp on the last leg. I want to see video, because it just ain't even CLOSE. --Obloodyhell (talk) 04:40, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Use your weapon skills which have movement on them; it's faster than running. Greatsword #3, Sword #2, and F2 on soulbeast while merged with a bird pet will all help you reach the finish line faster. --BuffsEverywhere (talk) 05:48, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
