Limit?[edit]

Do we know if there is a limit to character slots? --Lone Wolf 14:13, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

At least 13, according to this post. I've been wondering myself, I want to reach it eventually too :).
Faalagorn/ 13:08, 20 September 2012 (UTC).
Currently sitting on 17 characters, anyone know the limit yet? -Ixillius
GW1 had a cap of 9 free slots + 26 purchased slots, for total of 35, that can be used as reference. I've read in some forums people claiming having up to 40 in GW2, and still being able to get more. I've seen no proof like screenshots or videos, though. I have 15 myself. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 14:32, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
I've seen a screenshot of a number much higher than 15. It's been awhile since I've seen the screenshot though. -- MS 14:33, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
If you could find it again that could help. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 02:00, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
http://i.imgur.com/jNC6k.jpg I deleted my account name. I've also heard people having 40+. 74.69.141.56 17:35, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Feel free to edit the page with the highest value you've seen proof of, until ANet official states the number, or someone finds the limit. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 19:53, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
There is a limit of 64 character slots per account. This could change in the future, but this is the number as of October 2013. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:20, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
From when HoT is purchasable, the limit has been raised to 67.

4 slots :D[edit]

I just bought one - actually it gives four (4) additional slots :-) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.246.209.151 (talk).

That was a bug. You got lucky. Looks like you don't have to worry of losing the extra ones you got for free. Someone reported it to support, and they just told him to keep them and enjoy them. I'm not sure, but I think I got one for free too. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 01:15, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Lucky, just bought one and got one. 208.120.32.238 17:38, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Huh, I got 6 slots (not 4), both during one of the post-BWE3 stress tests (when I first bought the gems) and on the first day of headstart access. Since I never planned on having more than 8 characters (1/profession), 11 slots is more than enough for me. :D —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:39, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
I' aiming towards 3 of each profession, to see all starting storylines. And well, you just have to make one Iron legion Charr and one Asura Dynamics engineer. And one Bear Norn and one Blood legion Charr warrior. And one street rat and one Ash legion thieves! You just have to do it! My next repeated will be a silvary night cycle necromancer, and finally a statics Asura, although I'm not sure about this one. Probably a guardian. There is No Limit[edit]

No limit to the number of character slots http://imgur.com/dDdOsQl --Blueblob0 00:43, 2 July 2013 (BST)

Actually, there *is* a limit. No account can have more than 64 characters slots, total, as of October 2013. That could change in the future, of course, but as of this month, that's the number. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:20, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Would a listing of sales be handy?[edit]

Maybe in the notes section, to help people that are thinking of getting additional slots but are unsure if a sale could be soon. Though ANet support would generally refund the difference if it was soon after a purchase could still be useful for the unsure folks. Aro User Aro Signature Logo.gif 07:47, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm not too sure if that would help too much on individual pages. For example, if we were to say that the price has historically gone down to 75% off, that does not tell the consumer what the next sale price will be, nor when it will happen. (Btw, pulled that number from nowhere.) An informed consumer is a wonderful thing, but sometimes information can be misleading.
On the other hand, informing people that sales do occur is a great thing. In fact, Anet does that on their website. G R E E N E R 17:56, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Does the Heart of Thorns expansion give additional character slots for free?[edit]

Similar to how buying each campaign in GW1 added 2 slots for free. (see the first bullet point under http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Character_slot#Acquisition) --1.9.154.198 07:38, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Only the deluxe and collector's addition give the additional character slot.--Relyk ~ talk < 07:46, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
First of all It's not for free, it costs €45!! - But yes, if you preorder your standard edition of HoT before Oct. 23rd you will get an additional character slot. - Manassas (talk) 08:12, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Just to clarify, this pre-purchase bonus character slot for the standard edition only applies if you registered the core game before January 23, 2015. --Cali (talk) 08:48, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Hmm only 1 additional character slot if you buy the Deluxe or Ultimate edition, or if you pre-order the Standard edition... That's such a bad deal compared to when Factions and Nightfall were released. --1.9.154.198 08:22, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Current maximum number of character slots[edit]

I changed the maximum number of character slots on April 1 from 70 to 69 based on this forum thread which states: "Update to this issue, after about 20+ emails back and forth with Anet. Starting early this morning and they continued to work on it till 8 tonight. So about 12 hours. The maximum number of characters an account can have is 69. So wiki is incorrect. The assumption with the 70 on gw2efficiency is those accounts were updated to the site when the beta character was still in play or possible bug as suggested by Healix"

So, Blueblob0, if you changed it to 70 based on gw2efficiency, that information appears to be faulty. I'm going to revert it back to 69. If you (or anyone else) has more recent information that comes from Anet, please cite your source if you plan to change it to 70 again. --Cali (talk) 20:52, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I was reading the page and as i have 70 character slots (http://i.imgur.com/BX2pw0h.png), I thought I would change it to the correct info.--blueblob0 (talk) 15:16, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Well, that's definitely a solid reason for making that edit. Blueblob0, do you remember how you acquired that 70th slot? And do you know how long you've had it? Trying to figure out how you have 70 characters when the person I quoted was unable to go past 69. --Cali (talk) 20:29, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
I think it was the free slot they gave everyone who got hot before a set date + the one for the Ultimate edition, otherwise I have kept up with max number of slots as new ones have been released so maybe there was a bug that let you get an extra one Blueblob0 (talk) 10:19, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. It does seem that a glitch occurred in your favor; I don't think the average account can currently reach 70 character slots. I'll add an anomaly note. --Cali (talk) 19:07, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
Just bought 3 more slots today, and have now maxed out at 70. I have HoT and PoF. Is it possible the new standard is 70? Magua 18:26, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
I was also able to buy up to 70 slots on my account that own PoF deluxe, but after getting to 70 I was no longer able to purchase the HoT deluxe upgrade from the gemstore. --Gzarig (talk) 18:55, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

70(71) slots with PoF[edit]

Can anyone confirm additional slot from purchasing PoF increased the maximum amount of characters? The F. Prince (talk) 17:40, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

According to gw2efficiency there are several accounts with 71 characters and even one account with 72 characters. Dinomannen (talk) 16:43, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Late reply, but i can confirm Pre purchasing PoF gave an additional slot. Bringing the possible maximum number up to 71. I currently have 71 lvl 80 characters. GW2efficiency dose no show any at 72 that I can see.
I have 72 slots (one not used atm) Blueblob0 (talk) 13:40, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
I assume it is one per ultimate version. —Kvothe (talk) 13:51, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

If I'm understanding the Notes right, the correct way to get the theoretical maximum number of Character Slots (on a non-F2P account) is by doing the following:[edit]

1. First, buy Character Slot Expansions until the account has 69 char slots.
2. Then, buy the Deluxe (or Ultimate) Editions of HoT, PoF, EoD, and SotO to reach 73 slots (which is the current maximum).
3. Repeat Step 2 for any subsequent expansions that release to reach the new max.
Please correct me if anything is wrong. --180.129.39.136 12:22, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Well you can't get that amount anymore as you can't buy the deluxe/ultimate versions anymore. The upgrades that mail you an item are not the same as buying and redeeming a code. Also HoT codes in general no longer work as people have found out. The basic idea is that you get max character slots, then any purchased versions that add a slot can go over that normal cap limit. --Dak393 (talk) 12:34, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
So, if I'm understanding you correctly:
The Character Slot Expansion contained in each of the 4 "Deluxe Upgrades" (that are bought from the gemstore) won't be able to let an account go past the current maximum of 69 character slots.
If an account hasn't already done so, redeeming a particular expansion's deluxe/ultimate code for the account doesn't actually give you a Character Slot Expansion, but always adds a character slot regardless of the current number of character slots the account has.
Is that correct? --180.129.39.136 17:33, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, the deluxe upgrades you buy in the gem store mail you the items, attempting to use a normal character slot expansion while at max (or more) slots won't let you. The real reason people can go above max is due to the applied expansion upgrades increasing the number and not giving you an item to use. At least that's what we've been able to figure out with people trying to do what you suggested above. Obviously it's hard to fully test as getting max slots is expensive and the options change over time as versions are no longer sold and keys stop working (HoT). --Dak393 (talk) 23:30, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

I 12 years didnt have maximum char slot but i did buy deluxe editions After buying base editins (with gems), i now could buy up to 72 char slot, not 69.
