Contest planning[edit]

So, since the Feature Pack release is coming nearer, I had to rush this a bit to get it ready. I’d appreciate your comments and suggestions on the plan in general; I want to make this public likely tomorrow or with the start on Sunday—I’ll advertise it openly on Reddit and Twitter then to get a lot of people in. Ideally, we not only get a lot of content in, but also some permanent contributors.

For the contest duration, it will probably (hopefully?) become quite busy, so fellow RC lurkers, you might want to press F5 a bit more often. As for the contribution evaluation, so far I don’t have an exact plan, but depending on the number of participants, I maybe could use some help.

Also if somebody can double check the article, and maybe make it a bit pretty, that would be great! poke | talk 17:25, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Just fyi. Stephane said he would help promote this on Monday, so that should also help a lot. poke | talk 18:08, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
That sounds like a great idea, I'll definitely participate! I really want that llama so I need to think of some things I can do... Depending on the publicity this gets it might become quite hectic for you guys. :P
Does this contest start on the 7th or is that a typo for the 9th? Tyndel (talk) 18:16, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
I am interested in helping where ever I can in the process of trying to sell my house so my connection / participation my be sparse.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 18:27, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
I will keep an eye on RC and try to do my part to keep edits on track and encourage new contributors. I won't, however, be signing up for the contest, since (as many know) I don't like to associate my contributor name with my in-game name.
That brings me to the following question: will you allow people to sign up and only send their in-game to ANet (via wiki mail)? Or are people going to be required to publicly post their in-game name on the project page? Obviously, I prefer the first for my fellow paranoiacs, but I understand that it might be unrealistic for various logistical reasons. Regardless, be good to post on the project page. (And to be especially clear: the answer won't affect my contributions at all; I'll be helping out and will opt out of signing up for the contest regardless.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:32, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
Apart from the promotion, this is primarily our things (or mine actually…). I have the codes, and I’ll give them out. I’ll probably require winners to have a valid email address set up in the wiki account to which I’ll send the code. Although I might come up with some different way to prevent people from selling their code on ebay; I really want to avoid that and am considering different options. But whatever way I end up doing it, whatever contact details will be shared stays between me and that person.
For the start I did mean the 7th (this Sunday), but we might end up pushing that to Monday for prepration and promotion purposes. But the idea is to have it running before the patch hits. poke | talk 18:38, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Other language wikis[edit]

After discussing this a bit in IRC, I am willing to open this up to the other language wikis too. Please note that I didn’t get the codes explicitely as a means to promote the wiki and I don’t currently see a way to get more, so each wiki won’t be able to run an independent contest. Instead, my idea would be that participants have the choice to decide on which wiki they want to participate. They would still be required to register here, so I have a full list of all participants in a central place. They would be required to mention the language when they register so that we can check the contributions there then at the end of the contest. Contributions for other languages would also only count for the raffle of 10 codes, not the 3 top contributor slots.

If there’s interest, then I’ll update the contest with these terms. poke | talk 18:44, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi there! Gwethelyn here, from the French Wiki. Irule, our admin, is on vacations right now, so I'll be acting as liaison if that's fine with you?
We've been contacted by Stephane and we'd love for our small community to participate too! We have very few contributors right now, so I don't think you have much to fear from us >.<
If you're ok with it, I can create a mirror page on the French wiki where I'll translate the rules, making it clear that participants have to register on the English Wiki to participate. Would they need an account here too or not? --Gwethelyn (talk) 16:57, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
Sure, that’s fine with me :) And since the winners will be drawn randomly, contributors to the French wiki still have a fair chance :)
Yeah, the original idea was to require participants to sign on this page, but now that I think about it, we can probably just have localized lists. So if you’re going to create a page on the French wiki, users can just sign up there. It’s just important that people will only register on one wiki then, so they have the same chance. poke | talk 17:37, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
Provided that its clear which user they are on the French wiki, I don't see a need to create an account here. Chances of anyone claiming anyone else's edits are low :P -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:37, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
Ok, then! Let's go with one list per wiki, and one wiki per participant! I think that most French contributors have an account here too anyway XD
I'll edit my translation and add the link toward it on you page!--Gwethelyn (talk) 17:43, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

raffle[edit]

I'm confused. For the remaining 10 purple llama codes, are these for any random 10 contributors who do meaningful edits during the timeframe of the feature pack, or do those edits have to also be exclusively about feature pack content? Vili 点 User talk:Vili 22:53, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

For the 10 codes, all (valuable) contributions, not only those in direct relation to the Feature Pack, are considered. Only the 3 separate codes are limited to content for the feature pack.
So if you want to overhaul all the armor articles in that time, those contributions will work to get eligible for the raffle but won’t push you towards the top 3. poke | talk 00:42, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
