Why bother?[edit]

Quite a few of these 'laws' are known widely by avid forge users; some aren't, but a lot of those could be figured out via logic or experimentation. For some reason, though, few of them are recorded here on the wiki in any way shape or form, and in reality, few give a shit about it if it doesn't yield a precursor or something they can sell for hundreds of gold. On top of that, as I mentioned on the other page, no one wants to do the work.

The value comes in extrapolation:

  1. Knowing how the forge works, and how the item database works, you can predict forge output to a particular range. To some degree, you can "create" certain exotic runes and sigils by tailoring what you throw in to point at a particular piece of gear that has it. (This was probably more accurate before John Smith's changes a few years back. Currently, it is NOT cost-effective. Don't waste your money.)
  2. If you want to throw random rares into the forge to try to get a precursor, you don't need to use all level 80 rares. You can get level 80 exotics with rares as low as level 40. You just need to make sure the average level of your components => ~70.
  3. Insert consequence of intelligent deduction here.

You might draw conclusions I have yet to see, too.

I've noticed a certain revival happening with the MF page the past few days. I'm a big believer in buried treasure, and I'd rather this info didn't show up there.
