Welcome to the GW2W[edit]

Now that is out of the way:
As per your question over-night, I can give you a run down about the various pages the wiki contains. In general, you can leave comments on any discussion page, also known as talk pages. The very basic procedure on such pages is quite simple;

  • When you comment, make sure you use the correct amount of colons (:) to indent your comment into the conversation.
  • Whenever you submit a comment on a talk page, please sign with 4 tildes (~~~~) to allow others to see it was you who left a comment. I can tell you signed earlier comments, so this should already be known to you.
  • If a new point rises within a discussion that doesn't really connect to the comments made earlier, you can use the template {{ri}} (which is short for "Reset indent") to start a new paragraph. When you do so, no colons have to be used. Note that you can also use this template if indentation is getting out of control.
    • I.E:

"

This is the last comment on the previous point. -- Example

(Reset indent) This is a new point I am trying to make in a discussion. - Infinite - talk 11:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC) "
"

This is the last comment made with ridiculous indentation. -- Example

(Reset indent) This comment is to reset the indentation. - Infinite - talk 11:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC) "

  • When someone else submits a comment before you, whilst you were also trying to submit a comment, you should submit the same line into the newer revision (with your original indentation) and add the template {{ec}} (which is short for "Edit conflict") inbetween your colons and your comment.
    • I.E:

"
This is the original comment. - Infinite - talk 11:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

This is a comment snuck in earlier, whilst you were editing. -- Example 11:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) This is the comment you tried to submit after the previous one, but someone else snuck their comment in before yours. - Elonwolf 11:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

"

You can also freely edit your user page to your heart's content, as long as navigation isn't impossible and does not obscure parts of the wiki in which your page is contained (for instance, an image on any page may not overlap the search bar on the left or the tabs at the top. Such userpages are slightly more advanced in coding, so I presently believe that this should not (yet) be applicable to your future userpage. You are also allowed to adjust your user talk page as you see fit, but keep in mind that this page is used for other users to contact you, so please keep a clear oversight for them.

Main space articles are obviously only edited when new and confirmed information is found (or when they can be improved in general) and should always follow the basic formatting guidelines.

For a bigger list of examples and general use, please refer to the following page. If you edit frequently, you will soon have no problems expressing yourself as you please.
Of course, for any more questions, feel free to leave me a comment on my talk page, or on your own here, so that me and other users can assist you.

Happy wiki-ing! :) - Infinite - talk 11:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Hey ty this realy helped me! The editing page you send was also very helpfull so thanks. Elonwolf 11:47, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I already have another problem :S, when I click on user page i get directed to this page. Why is that? Elonwolf 11:54, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
It is a move remnant redirect caused by Infinite mistakingly posting that (absolutely helpful) wall o' text on your userpage, not your talkpage. I fixed it for you, should be ok now. Mediggo 11:58, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Ty Mediggo. I hope I can finish something on my page today but im not sure if I will cuz I have to learn for my scooter theory exam :( Elonwolf 12:01, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, it's not like you have a time limit or anything. :P Welcome to the wiki on my behalf as well. Mediggo 12:08, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

This user[edit]

Hey could someone help me out? Cuz I checked some user pages and I saw these "this user" boxes in which it stated if they played gw1, what race they'll be in gw2 etc. And they were all the same so I was wondering where I could get these boxes. Elonwolf 15:37, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Those userboxes use specific template codes which put the box on the page of your choice as well as adding the user/page to category of everyone using the userbox. For example, {{User Char Stories}} will put that particular userbox on your page.
User Tender Wolf Master Dungeon Guide.png This user likes to make personal stories for their characters
There are various categories and userboxes for users. You can browse through them here. All the template work in same way, so if you want to indicate that you count yourself among users who are going to buy GW2, you need to but add {{User GW2buy}} on your page. Mediggo 15:51, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Picture[edit]

Hey I want to get a picture I editted on paint on my userpage, how do I do that? Elonwolf 22:49, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

You'd use [[File:<image name>]]. Speaking of which, I've moved your images to here and here because user images should be uploaded with "user <username>" at the beginning of the file names. Back to displaying your image. You can adjust the size of it like this: [[File:User_Elonwolf_486343sylvari_spray_finished_real.png|300px]].-- Shew 23:21, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Ah tyvm Shew! I'm sorry about the wrong uploading. Elonwolf 23:22, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I uploaded another pic and I hope I did it right this time. I did what you said so it should be right now. Elonwolf 12:03, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Hey, is that image copyrighted? If so, it's gonna have to be deleted.-- Shew 12:18, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Wich one?Elonwolf 12:19, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
The rhcp one. & one more thing I forgot to say, please include {{user image|Elonwolf}} in the image descriptions of your user images. We're more or less following the rules here.-- Shew 12:20, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Also, hyphens can be included in usernames, so it's best if you use "User Elonwolf" rather than "User -Elonwolf."-- Shew 12:23, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I don't think it has copyright but I will check for sure and ty for that link. Btw I deleted the charr and human concept arts because I took them from this wiki and it said something about copyright and third party use. Sorry for all the trouble. Elonwolf 12:27, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
You have access to any GW/GW2 image you want on this wiki. They're allowed. No worries!-- Shew 12:29, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Okay ty and the RHCP pic is from a unofficial fansite so I don't think it has copyright ( though I don't know much about these rules) Elonwolf 12:31, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
If that picture is copyrighted, it has to go, but you can always put a link on your page to its original source. Or upload it elsewhere and then link to it, if the original source is no longer available. Mediggo 12:42, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
