Sabetha the Saboteur[edit]

Use the Sabetha the Saboteur walkthrough for an in depth guide on the mechanics.

How Not To Kill Your Squad[edit]

There is no way to instantly wipe the whole squad, but you can definitely can get close by making the situation unrecoverable.

  • If a symbol of a bomb with fuse appears above your head, a sound of a burning fuse starts, and a large circle with a growing inner circle shows itself under you, then move out of the group instantly.
  • If you get a green circle under you, and have access to a special action button, look around for a player on a jumppad at the edge of the arena and aim the special action at the jumppad. Look around to find a player near a jumppad, or find the orange crossed swords on the minimap and look that way.
  • If you get assigned to 'do cannons', you need to know the timings, positions and tricks.
  • If you get assigned to 'kite', you need to know how to take away flak shots.

Short Guide[edit]

The big arrow that spawns a flamewall and goes counterclockwise around the arena is an instantkill.
Timed bombs periodically appear on players close to Sabetha. A symbol of a bomb with fuse appears above your head, a sound of a burning fuse starts, and a large circle with a growing inner circle shows itself under you. Move out of the group instantly or anyone inside the circle will take a lot of damage.
A green circle can appear under players, giving them a special action button to throw a green bomb. These have to be thrown on the jumppad with a player on it at the edge of the arena, so they can jump to a cannon. Look around to find a player near a jumppad, or find the orange crossed swords on the minimap that indicate which direction the cannon is.
Kill the miniboss during split phases at 75%, 50%, 25%. Get close to bombs and interact with them during split phases. Get CC ready at 50%. Destroy turrets at 25%.

Sabetha has both an enrage timer and a platform status. Reaching enrage or having the platform status at 0 destroys the platform and ends the fight. The platform can get destroyed by cannons that shoot from platforms above the arena, or big bombs that spawn during split phases and aren't interacted with fast enough.

Every 30 seconds a cannon spawns on platforms above the arena. Cannons deal damage to players and the platform health. Someone can get on a jumppad, have a green bomb thrown on it to active it, and destroy the cannon.

Sabetha targets a random player with a large arrow from which a flamewall will spawn. It rotates clockwise around the arena, instantly killing anyone it touches.
At 75%, 50%, 25% there is a split phase with a miniboss that has to be killed. Bombs spawn somewhere on the arena during these phases,

Brief discussion of mechanics[edit]

Although Gorseval is an easy boss due to the limited amount of mechanics and responsibilities put on the individual members of the group, it is still a dps check and no members should be slacking off.

At the start of the encounter, walls spawn around the arena and four updrafts apppear in intercardinal directions. The walls can be broken by damaging them, allowing access to the updrafts.

Gorseval has two standard attacks, a swipe and a slam. The tank will face Gorseval away from the group so the swipe is not a problem. The slam will still hit if you stand close and knocks you down for a while. Chronomancers should share aegis or stability, other classes can provide blocks, or people should just dodge. Dodging can be a vital dps loss during the 'no updraft' strategy, but is better than getting hit.

Every now and then, Gorseval teleports back to the middle and gains a breakbar. During this phase, black areas cover part of the arena. Standing in them when they are about to disappear deals a lot of damage. Each health phase (ie 100%-66%) has its own pattern of black areas. When you know the patterns, you can move ahead to a safe area before the next one spawns. Breaking the bar stops the full attack before it would end otherwise, but depending on the strategy used this bar has to be broken early on or late into the phase. Gorseval also gains a retaliation buff during this phase (which cannot be stripped). Every single hit done to Gorseval will damage the player, independent on the power of the attack. That means multihit attacks should be avoided or you kill yourself by attacking Gorseval.

Every phase, Gorseval starts its World Eater attack. The whole arena gets covered in an aoe indicator with a growing red aoe growing outwards from the center. Anyone standing on the boss platform when the attack finishes channeling is instantly killed. There are a few ways to prevent a wipe: either use one of the updrafts to the side of the arena ('updraft' strategy) and keep going until Gorseval's health reaches 66%, 33% or 0%, or skip going for updrafts and instantly dps until Gorseval's health reaches 66%, 33% or 0% ('no updraft' strategy).

The walls at the edge of the arena should first be destroyed before they allow access to the updrafts. That means the tank will bring over Gorseval to one of the sides, and the rest of the squad try to cleave down the wall along with Gorseval. Walls respawn after a while. There are only four updrafts, each can be used once per fight. Updrafts disappear 15 seconds after the first person jumped into them. That means everyone should preferably jump at the same time. Try to jump once the inner red circle has grown and reached the edge of the arena.

After reaching 66% or 33%, Gorseval becomes invincible and four ghosts spawn around the arena. If one of them reaches the exact center of the arena, right under Gorseval, the World Eater attack starts channeling and the raid group will wipe. The ghosts can be soft CC'ed to slow them down (including immobilise). There are a few ways to handle these ghosts wich are discussed below.

After 66%, orbs start spawning around the arena. The aoes around the orbs grow in size over time. Standing in it gives a debuff which lowers damage output and increases damage taken. The debuff can be removed by absorbing golden droplets which appear after destroying an orb, or can be removed by going into downed state. The arena should be kept clear of orbs by ranged dps.

After 33%, small aoe circles can appear beneath players. Standing in them when they disappear traps the players in an egg. You can break out of the egg by using weapon skill 1, or by having other players destroy the egg. Just sidestep them to prevent that from happening in the first place. This is a buggy mechanic and can sometimes keep players trapped although the egg has been destroyed.

Common strategies[edit]

Most used strategies are marked in bold.

Dps/cc strategies[edit]

There are two ways to handle the boss fight, called 'updraft' and 'no updraft'.

  • 'Updraft': the standard way of dealing with the encounter in groups that do not have the damage to try 'no updraft'. It involves moving the boss to the side of the arena, destroying the wall there and using the updraft to prevent getting hit by the World Eater attack. Every updraft can only be used once during the encounter. The boss will be moved to the wall, right after the CC phase ends.
  • 'No updraft': requires enough DPS to reach the 66% and 33% phases before Gorseval finishes its World Eater attack. Slow CC (slowly breaking the defiance bar) can be used during the breakbar phase to allow for a longer dps phase, fast CC can be used to prevent retaliation damage from killing players but needs higher DPS. Even after being able to take no updrafts during the first two phases, DPS might not be high enough during the 33%-0% phase to skip taking updrafts during that last phase. This is very common and taking an updraft during the last phase might have to be discussed with the squad.

Ghost strategies[edit]

  • 'Mid entangle': The squad handles ghosts one at a time, while the druids keep the rest entangled in the middle. Only one druid should entangle at the same time. It is recommended to entangle the ghosts when they have already entered the boss bubble, so all of them can be cleaved down at the same time.
  • '5-5 split': The group splits up in two parties and each group kills two ghosts.
  • '7-1-1-1 split': The large group handles ghosts one at a time, while the three other squad members try to slow down one of the ghosts each, as much as they can.
  • '2-2-3-3 split': All groups kill one of the ghosts on their own. For groups that know what they're doing.

Profession role discussion[edit]

Tank: Most likely a chronomancer. Always face the boss away from the group. Stay in the middle most of the time. If the squad's strategy is updrafts you will have to move to a wall with updraft after the CC phase ends. During the ghost killing split phase, go stand on the opposite side of Gorseval already while killing the last ghost so Gorseval is turned away from the group.

Chronomancer: Signet of Humility for fast CC, Timewarp or Gravity Well for slow CC. Gorseval spawns adds right after the CC phases end so be ready to use focus pull to pull them under the boss.

Druid: Bring entangle to immobilise the ghosts during the split phase when they get close to Gorseval.

Firebrand: Give aegis when Gorseval makes its slam attack.

DPS/BS: If you are ranged, throw some attacks on the orbs every now and then, so the arena is clear of orbs.
