Tasks/goals every Guild Wars 2 player should know[edit]

Here is a laundry list of tasks/goals for new or casual Guild Wars 2 players, who might be looking for things to know or do in-game. Veteran or seasoned players should know or have done most or all of these items after playing the game for awhile, and at least played though one or two expansion content.

The list is not to taken seriously or all encompassing – stuff like raids, WvW, PvP, proper builds, and build theory are excluded. Most of the items can be looked up or found in the game wiki – the Character Adventure Guide in the hero achievement panel is a very good source/starting place for tracking your progress in learning the game mechanics.

  1. After logging into the game client have checked out the links or read the news before clicking on Play.
  2. Complete “Volume One” of the Character Adventure Guide.
  3. Complete 100 achievement points.
  4. Complete a weapon mastery achievement to at least 500 Killing Blows.
  5. Complete one crafting discipline to level 400 or higher.
  6. Complete one dungeon story and one exportable path.
  7. Complete one expansion story line.
  8. Complete one foe slayer achievement to 100 Kills.
  9. Complete one goggle diving achievement.
  10. Complete one map completion.
  11. Complete or unlock one profession elite specialization.
  12. Complete the core mastery for Pact Commander.
  13. Complete a core personal story line on one character.
  14. Complete three jumping puzzles.
  15. Craft one item in the Mystic Forge.
  16. Craft or obtain one ascended or legendary item.
  17. Create a mesmer character and experiment with creating/using portals.
  18. Create a mule character for extra storage or to park at a JP chest.
  19. Dance in front of a statue of Abaddon at least once.
  20. Expand your character inventory storage (e.g purchase or craft 20-slot bags.)
  21. Find out your character age and hours played by typing /age into the chat window.
  22. For ranger characters capture/tame all pets available in-game. Bonus points if you named them.
  23. Generally know or have looked up what sections are listed on the game wiki.
  24. Have bookmarked two GW2 related sites in your web browser.
  25. Have boosted a character to level-80.
  26. Have completed a jumping puzzle in tonic form.
  27. Have created and played characters from three of the five races.
  28. Have created and played three of the nine character professions for at least 10 hours each.
  29. Have helped other players with an achievement, goal, or defeat a boss.
  30. Have key-farmed at least once on a designated weekly key runner character.
  31. Have listened to the original or cover of “Fear Not This Night”.
  32. Have purchased a QoL item from the Gemstore.
  33. Have revived 100 down players.
  34. Have used a tonic.
  35. Have used or have the game wiki site open during game play.
  36. Have watched five GW2 related videos.
  37. Hover the mouse pointer for each weapon skill to Know the range and number of targets.
  38. Know at least one NPC character still alive from GW1.
  39. Know at least two GW2 YouTube or Twitch streamers.
  40. Know at least two methods for generating or farming in-game gold.
  41. Know how to access a lobby or lounge.
  42. Know how to bring up the game wiki event timer page.
  43. Know how to buy back items sold to a NPC vendor by mistake.
  44. Know how to clean up your inventory and how to check/sell items on the trading post.
  45. Know how to create an API Key and apply it to the game wiki.
  46. Know how to deposit all materials from inventory.
  47. Know how to find “chill” or “All welcome” groups in the LFG Tool.
  48. Know how to obtain a 32-slot bag either through an in-game achievement or by crafting.
  49. Know how to obtain a living world map teleport scroll, to be used by other characters on your account.
  50. Know how to preview items in your wardrobe.
  51. Know how to search for something on the game wiki.
  52. Know how to set a skill to auto-attack.
  53. Know how to switch between inventory and wallet view.
  54. Know how to switch map instances while in a party or squad group.
  55. Know how to use at least one in-game emote.
  56. Know how to use discovery in the crafting process.
  57. Know how to use the game wiki to look up dailies.
  58. Know how to use the LFG Tool.
  59. Know how to set your online status in the LFG Tool.
  60. Know or bookmarked at least two GW2 profession build sites.
  61. Know or develop an attack skill rotation.
  62. Know or have joined an HP train via the LFG Tool.
  63. Know or have looked at the inventory options (the sprocket icon).
  64. Know or have read five articles on the game’s news blog.
  65. Have read or listened to a YouTube streamer go over the game patch notes.
  66. Know or have read up on the in-game lore history.
  67. Know or have used a teleport to a friend consumable.
  68. Know or have used the hero panel achievement filter to find mastery points.
  69. Know or have visited/read the game’s official online forums.
  70. Know or look up on the game wiki (or other website) on tips for farming or gathering materials.
  71. Know that 25 hero challenges in any expansion will give enough hero points to fill out one elite specialization.
  72. Know that 3rd party in-game addons may stop working or could cause the game to crash after a game update.
  73. Know that mastery points are account wide while hero points are character wide.
  74. Know that NA players can not group together with EU players and visa versa.
  75. Know that you can join up to five guilds and each character on your account can be assigned to any one of them.
  76. Know the range and number of targets hit from your weapon skill 1.
  77. Know the roles in 5 or 10 person group content if following or using “meta builds”.
  78. Know there is a 15K cap on achievement points earned through dailies.
  79. Know two methods to obtain ascended trinkets.
  80. Know what chat links are and how to copy/paste one from the game wiki into the in-game chat window.
  81. Know what equipment and build templates are.
  82. Know when special, festival, or bonus events start or end either in-game or on the game wiki.
  83. Know where to obtain or craft a level-80 breather.
  84. World completion of the core game maps on one character.
  85. Obtain or craft a set of exotic armor.
  86. On the game wiki look up or know the terms: et, daily.
  87. Participate in a mount race.
  88. Participate in ether a guild mission, guild activity, or guild hall capture.
  89. Participate in five different world boss events.
  90. Participate in one Fractal map on tier 1.
  91. Participate in one strike mission.
  92. Participate in three map meta events.
  93. Participated in a guild hall jumping puzzle or mount race track.
  94. Traded in or upgraded your mix matched armor/gear for either full level 80 exotic or ascended gear.
  95. Unlock three mounts. Bonus if one is a flying mount.
  96. Use a commander/apple tag to lead/guide other players in meta events.
  97. Used the game wiki event timer at least once.
  98. Verified the email address registered to your game account is still valid and can receive emails.
  99. Verified your mobile number is still valid if using 2-factor authentication.
  100. Work towards completing mastery points in their respective areas: core, expansion, and The Icebrood Saga.
