My Theory on the Elder Dragons
Okay, so we all know the Dragons wake up one after another until they are all awake which they then start destroying everything and every one.
What if the Dragons planned all this in phases
Phase One: Lure: The dragon enters sleeping stance, begins leeking magical energy to attract races to build close to them.
Now think about it, the City of the Gods was built right on top of one of the elder dragons, why is that?
The Asuran CTC is built right next to an elder dragon, asura tricked into thinking it's a magical statue
The Charr homelands has one sleeping right ontop (and below) it, you also can't help but think the charr are inspired in terms of how they built their civilisation by the dragons looks (charr seem to LOVE spikes, the dragon seems to be spike heavy)
The Norn have built their homeland in the far shiverpeaks, they know of the evil at the lake but they just can't seem to see the dragon under the ice
Phase Two: investigating The first dragon in the waking order sends out it's minions (destroyers in this case) to determine if the world has grown enough, the resulting death of the so-called leader of the minion group would indicate yes
think-why didn't the destroyers just wipe out the asura from the word go?
Phase Three: awakening The dragons begin to enter the waking cycle
The dragons now pick this time to awaken while all the race's think that killing the general of the dragons (dragon in line) minions has stopped the threat. the races are now unsuspecting of the real threat
Notice how everyone started celebrating immidiatly after the death of the great destroyer, except for the stone dwarfs which may know this is only the start and continue their attack attacking, this might make the dwarfs some kind of "guard" race left behind by previous civilisations to help in stopping the dragons.
Phase Four: unleashment the dragons are fully awake and are begining the destruction cycle (this is also the phase which gw2 will play out in and hopefully stop)
From what we know so far is that the dragons have all placed themselves at stratigic locations or chokepoints in the world
One Dragon has placed it's self between Elona and Tyria
One Dragon is camped up in the north, pushing all race's further down
One Dragon is underground preventing underground retreat for the above ground race's
One Dragon has placed it's self on the remains of Orr creating it's army and also making a blockade making it impossible to retreet by sea
One dragon's location is however unknown, i suspect it may be playing a support role for the dragons who have a more defined role in the cycle, but until this can be (dis)proven that will be my view on it.
This might mean the dragons are forcing (herding?) all race's into a center killzone
Stage Five: Setting the Trap the world is now destroyed
The world has now been cleared of all life, the dragons now reset the trap by removing all signs of it happening in hopes of once again luring in beings such as the Gods to recreate life, the dragons remain completely dormant in this stage to not give away their intentions, once the basis of life has been created they then revert to their sleeping state and begin the lure (phase one)
the cycle starts again
If you have read through all this, i would like to thank you :)
