Bliss is a human member of the Zephyrite Order and pledged to the Astral Ward as a Rift Hunter. Formerly known as, Claire Virnav she was previously a Bounty Hunter in the Crystal Desert where she served a Guild Master of a now disbanded Guild called The Crystal Blades.

Biography[edit]

Origins[edit]

Claire was the only child resulting of the union of krytan diplomat Lord Lloyd Adrien Virnav and Zephyrite Harmonizer Serena. Prior to her birth, her parents traveled Tyria aiding in several conflicts as advisors to politicians and leaders and helped negotiate ceasefires and trade deals. They also were involved in aiding bridge relations with the Sylvari when the Firstborn were new to the world by buying acres of land to gift to them in good faith and extending some protections to the newest inhabitants of Tyria. Little is known of Serena's work with the Zephyrite Order as a Harmonizer following the crash of the Zephyr Sanctum in Dry Top.

Early Years[edit]

Following their escape from a war conflict that unfolded overnight during their travels, Lloyd and Serena, who was expecting at the time, were forced to escape from Elona by sea. This led to the ship being caught in a terrible storm and in the midst of this chaos Claire was born. Tragically, Serena did not survive their voyage and once they reached Kryta Lloyd would leave his newborn daughter under the care of his firstborn, Claire's older brother Derek.

Derek dutifully takes it upon himself to raise his half-sister. Setting aside any differences and disagreements with his father from years prior as he wishes to honor Serena's memory and see to it that her daughter grows up well. Meanwhile, overcome with grief Lloyd pours himself into his work determined to leave the world a better place for his offspring. This leads to them seeing very little of him for the first few years of his daughter's life. His absence even led to some cruel rumors Claire was really the product of a fling between Derek and Serena that served as an explanation as to why he had nearly abandoned his children.

Claire grows up sheltered and spoiled during her early childhood. Despite there being nothing physically wrong with her, she is mute and relies on sign language to communicate. This does little to stop her development as she takes up music from the early age of four. However, while determined, she is not a particularly gifted child and the limitations of mutism cause her to have a meek, yet sometimes mean demeanor.

In an effort to do good by his little sister Derek becomes more involved in Lloyd's life work and this leads to a very successful alliance between the two, although it all remains strictly professional, though for a couple of years this ensures their father being more present in their lives and the three start traveling together. This is ends up being brief when a politically motivated attack causes Claire at the age of five to be kidnapped and held hostage by bandits. She is promptly rescued and returned to her family.

Following her rescue, Claire's father suggests rather than staying with them she would be safer travelling with her mother's people, the Zephyrites. Struggling with self-confidence following her kidnapping and rescue, Claire feels guilty her helplessness in the situation put her family through such grief and agrees to leave the care of Derek and their father and travel with the Zephyrites at the age of six. At least if she was abroad and safe it would not be a burden on either her father or older brother.

The Zephyrites[edit]

Separated from her family Claire is sent to live abroad with the Zephyrite Order. She grows up learning Glint's teachings and the ways of her mother's people only meeting up with her older brother and father a handful of times a year.

From the age of six onwards she is in charge of her life and makes the decisions that would normally fall on a parent for herself while living communally with the rest of the Order only retaining limited communications with her family via letters the three of them exchange sparsely during their travels.

Under the Zephyrite's guidance Claire finds her voice and takes up singing, beginning training to become a Zephyrite Harmonizer as some of her mentors had suggested she follow in her mother's footsteps. She does not appear to excel in this or any of the other disciplines she takes up learning save for swimming and even struggles with having to put more effort into her learning than her peers. Regardless of these limitations she is tenacious and is not easily discouraged. She takes up training under renowned chefs they come across during their travels, developing a passion for feeding others and herself. During this time she also learns to hunt, fish and forage.

For her coming of age at fourteen years old she leaves the Zephyrites unsworn. This after having a falling out with the Order following her learning of Vlast's existence. At a time when there were many well kept secrets within the inner circles of the Zephyrite Order Claire had come across Vlast fighting Branded Champions and confronted members about what she believed was them abandoning Glint's Scion. The Elders then agree to let her journey out into the world on her own so she could make up her own mind of things. Glint's light would show her the way back if it was meant to be so.

Teenage Years[edit]

She remains in Elona despite parting ways with the Zephyrite Order. During this time, her family arranges for her to stay and work at the palaces in Vabbi. She sings and entertains nobles sharing tales of her travels and is welcomed and treated well by the Vabbian nobility and Royalty who sought to win the Favor of the Zephyrites.

Her interest in Vlast leads her to take up combat training and not too long after she begins working as a desert bounty hunter.

Small, weak and inexperienced she struggles greatly with her chosen line of work. No one encourages her in her pursuit and some even attempt to talk her out of the dangerous profession with some Elonian Royals approaching her with marriage proposals and job opportunities she continuously turns down.

Adulthood[edit]

Remaining focused on her goal of aiding Vlast take on Kralkatorrik's Branded Claire also learns to fight ley-infused creatures and other foes found in the Crystal Desert. More often than not she finds herself at great disadvantages but her tenacity does not waiver. Working the Desert Bounty Boards she is occasionally aided by the Order of Whispers who provide her with arms and gear as well as fellow bounty hunters. She makes connections with the latter which leads to the founding of a Guild that would be known as the Crystal Blades and of which she would go on to become the Guildmaster up until 1332 AE when the guild was disbanded when after Dragonfall majority of the members retired or moved on to join the Vigil and the other Orders of Tyria.

Following her reunion with members of the Zephyrite Order at the Festival of the Four Winds she formally joins them and resumes their travels together. She takes up the Zephyrite name Bliss and with it a more peaceful lifestyle after having survived a Ley-Sickness resulting from years of continuous exposure to raw ley energy while working the desert bounty boards.

No longer a Desert Bounty Hunter, Bliss travels with the Zephyrite Order to Grothmar Valley to aid Aurene and the Crystal Bloom in their work healing Kralkatorrik's Brand. Shortly after her arrival there, something lures her skyscale Cynder away and her search for her lost mount and companion leads her to Bjora Marches where she and Dante, her lover at the time, get caught up in a terrible Blizzard where she nearly succumbs to the whispers. It is here where she discovers she is with child. However, for most of her pregnancy she would go out of her way to keep it a secret save from a handful of people.

She spends her time between Divinity's Reach and Fields of Ruin, opting to steer clear of any conflicts up north only travelling to Elona, Lucien.

As the earth all over Tyria begins to stir and Destroyers begin sprouting from the ground like spring blooms she sends her infant son away to be raised by an adoptive family and goes back to Thunderhead Peaks where the Zephyrites had begun to organize to resume forging Dragonsblood weapons.

Unfortunately, while staying at the Forge in Thunderhead Peaks they are attacked by destroyers and she is rescued by a squad of Vigil members and her girlfriend at the time, Trinity Sedgewick.

The two of them would go on to be married and Bliss, still going by her Tyrian name Claire would be reunited with her son Lucien who would go on to live at the Sedgewick manor while she and her wife aided the Tyrian Alliance going on Dragon Response Missions. Their service is paused when a serial killer by the name of Alfred Tally ambushes Claire taking her hostage. She is rescued days after but the traumatic events render her unable to speak for several months.

Of their union, by means of magic the two of them go on to have a child together by the name Zofia Jade Iona Sedgewick. Shortly after the bizarre series of events that led up to their daughter's existence Claire resumes her travels with the Zephyrites where she returns to find a young boy he'd rescued a year ago and who lay comatose under their care had awoken and becomes his guardian. Little is known of her back in Kryta and Ascalon until, after receiving a letter for her wife speaking of dangers from the mists they were facing at the time she returns to Fields of Ruin to find their children surrounded by demons from Torment in their own home.

Together with Iris, her wife's girlfriend at the time, they take on the demons and get the children to safety. Claire would then take them to Cantha shortly after they'd officially opened their borders after explaining it is where she had been while trying to find information on her mother's family. This was only part of the truth of her whereabouts as she'd also been approached by the Astral Ward and had been aiding them in secret as a Rift Hunter.

Following this, and realizing she wanted to devout herself to her work alongside the Astral Ward, Claire asks for a divorce and parts ways with Trinity going to live in Amnytas and travel Tyria as a Rift Hunter. It is during this time she begins to use her Zephyrite name, Bliss following a series of trials she overcomes with both the Zephyrites and the Astral Ward as she sought to become a better version of herself.

From then on out, she works in secret occasionally visiting Kryta and Ascalon mentioning nothing of her work to those that knew her outside of it. She meets a Revenant by the name of Tsukuyomi and the two become romantically involved for a brief time resulting in a daughter she names Yui The two then having a falling out shortly after their daughter's birth, Bliss leaves Cantha after the two had moved in together and returns to Amnytas. It is at the Wizard's tower at the Horn of Maguuma where she meets Raime Lightstorm, a fellow Rift Hunter and, unknown to them at the time father of her adoptive daughter Katarina whom she had taken under her wing a few months prior. The two of them shortly marryand move in together to the Lowlands in Janthir where they currently reside with her younger children, Alarick, Lucien and Yui.

Combat Abilities[edit]

Abilities

As a former Desert Bounty Hunter Bliss picked up skills from the Thief profession and both the Deadeye and Daredevil specializations. However, she does not use any form of shadow magic. For this reason, and due her size and strength limitations she relies heavily on dual wielded weapons and ranged weapons like rifle, short bow, daggers, as well as staff and spear wielding.

Using her Prismatic Crystal Staff Bliss is able to channel the magic of the Aspects and grant her some limited combat skills.

  • Utilizing Wind Aspect Magic allows her to leap higher than physically possible.
  • Sun Aspect Magic Allows her to dash and move at the speed of light for a limited amount of bursts. Also energizes, replenishing stamina faster.
  • Lightning Aspect Magic allows her to use lightning to pull herself to the target location as well as call down bolts to stun foes.
  • Prismatic Aspect Magic allows her to produce light that can blind foes. She is able to transform her weapon into a limited number of other weapons and tools and can even produce prismatic crystal projectiles that behave similar to branded shards and can burst into prismatic crystal clusters after hitting a target.
  • The Prismatic Crystal Staff also allows her to absorb and disperse some but not all magics. Dispersing magic can damage both foes and herself while absorbing it lets the crystal weapon hold some charge like an organic battery.
  • Her Prismatic Crystal weapon also allows her to create an extra layer of prismatic crystal armor that similar to her weapon can absorb some magics.
