Abilities versus Skills[edit]

I know that this is — in the humble opinion of some individuals — not the perfect place to discuss it. However, I could not only care less but think that it has to start somewhere; the combat ability section is rather vague (as are many in-game descriptions) and not very useful to the curious player. By listing skills (or skills that are extremely similar save the cool down) I assume the creatures' articles to become far more informative. Phrases like "Blinds" and "area of effect" are neither precise nor helpful, yet if the reader follows the skills' links he or she will get to know and understand the specifics of aforesaid phrases. In particular that means a potential reader would realise that the or one source of a Risen Wizard's blinding ability is a projectile-based skill with a significant cast time and animation. I mentioned an uncertainty regarding the number of blinding skills for I experienced at times that I — that is to say the character I played — suffered far to frequently from blindness than the sole use of Lightning Surge could explain. Let the discussion games begin. 109.91.252.10 10:55, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Uhu, and? 109.91.252.10 11:32, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
It's likely it has a monster version. Otherwise, you can just confirm it by the animation for Blinding Flash.--Relyk 11:42, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
I know it's a bit confusing, but we just don't have an official term for ability. Monster skills are something I'd like us to document more of, but as you can see from that discussion, it's not straightforward. I don't think any, or least very few monsters, use skills with the same name as player skills, but you can see the names of skills that damage you with the combat log.
