Rejected policy proposal

This page is a suspended policy proposal. It has been superseded by a list of common wiki practices.

The Guild Wars 2 Wiki has no policies. All former proposals are kept for historical preservation.

Guild Wars 2 Wiki is administered by the community. There are two types of formal administrator status: sysop and bureaucrat. This status is not intended to represent extra weight within community decisions or generally directing the wiki, nor is it a requirement for moderating or enforcing policy. Like all users, administrators are expected to respect policy and consensus.

Sysops[edit]

Shortcut:
GW2W:SYSOP

Sysops are users that are also granted technical access to a few restricted features in order to help with wiki maintenance. There is no limit to the number of sysops on the wiki. They have the following duties beyond those of common users:

  • Using technical features for janitorial maintenance of the wiki
  • Helping the community to enforce policies
  • Blocking users in order to stop or prevent disruptive behavior
  • Using the CheckUser extension only when necessary for the above tasks
  • Forming arbitration committees per the arbitration policy. Whenever there is a conflict that the community cannot solve by itself, a community member may request an arbitration committee. Three sysops not involved in the conflict in question may then form the committee and begin the arbitration process.

Sysops are expected to not misuse the administrator features they are given, and are expected to follow a higher standard of behavior than other users. Sysops are chosen through requests for adminship, and once elected they only lose their position through a failed request for reconfirmation or by resigning; while sysops are encouraged to be active, inactivity over a period of time is not grounds for losing the position.

Bureaucrats[edit]

Shortcut:
GWW:BCRAT

Bureaucrats are sysops who have temporarily been given the right to alter the assigned groups and administrator status of user accounts based on community decisions, which includes moving contributors from common users to sysops and back, as well as sysops to bureaucrats and back. While a bureaucrat should not change assigned groups based purely on whims, they are expected to help interpret the results of requests for adminship. The other duties of bureaucrats are the same of those belonging to sysops.

Once a sysop has been chosen as a bureaucrat, the position will be kept for 12 months, after which there will be an opening for new requests for adminship. The wiki has an upper limit of three and a lower limit of two for the number of current bureaucrats.

Selection process[edit]

The administrator selection process is governed by the policy for requests for adminship.

ArenaNet is not formally involved in the administrator selection process except where explicitly specified, and community decisions may not be otherwise appealed to them. ArenaNet staff may participate in the administrator selection process just as any other contributor in good standing, but their opinions are given equal weight as other members of the community.
