Rejected policy proposal

This page is a suspended policy proposal. It has been superseded by a list of common wiki practices.

The Guild Wars 2 Wiki has no policies. All former proposals are kept for historical preservation.

Administrators help to maintain the wiki, by deleting pages, rollbacking vandalous edits, protecting pages, and blocking users.

They are autonomous, being empowered to use their powers according to their discretion. They are limited by policy as much as any user is, but they are not limited to policy in their use of their administrative powers.

They will, in most matters in which they are directly involved, ask another administrator to deal with the matter to avoid conflicts of interest.

Because all Administrators are autonomous, Administrators may at times counteract other administrators. Examples include the lifting of an erroneous ban or the restoration of an erroneously deleted page. In these cases, the reverting Administrator is obliged to leave a message on the talk page explaining the reasoning behind the countermeasure. The Administrator who has been countermanded is expected to oblige the revert, and should not re-institute their action without discussing it with the "reverting" Administrator.

Administrator actions are expected to be made regardless of user standing - that is, an anonymous IP and a user that has stood on the wiki since its creation are expected to be treated the same in terms of administrative actions such as warnings and bans.

Bureaucrats[edit]

Bureaucrats, in addition to having all the powers of sysops(although they are generally expected to only use them in cases when expediency is necessary and no sysops are available), also have the ability to appoint and demote sysops and other bureaucrats.

Appointment of sysops is based on the discretion of the bureaucrats, taking into account the opinions of the community, as expressed in requests for adminship, and the opinions of other administrators.

Appointment of bureaucrats is based on a combination of general user consensus and the opinions of the current bureaucrats and sysops.

Demotion[edit]

Both sysops and bureaucrats serve for life, unless they resign or are demoted. Sysops may be demoted by the bureaucrats according to their discretion. Bureaucrats can be demoted if there is consensus among the users that they should be demoted and at least one other bureaucrat agrees.

In extreme cases where a swift resolution is necessary, bureaucrats may temporarily demote a bureaucrat. If within three days, there is no consensus that the bureaucrat should have been demoted, they will be reinstated. Bureaucrats who abuse this ability may be demoted.

In addition, if users feel that a sysop or bureaucrat should be removed, they may call for a recall. If consensus is reached in favor of removal of a sysop or bureaucrat, they may be demoted by the bureaucrats.
