Recipes with base ingredients[edit]

Hello. I thought I might take the opportunity to leave a comment about "base ingredients = n", since one of your latest edits ended up being reverted.

At first glance I completely agreed with your edit, since the Opal Orbs don't lead to any mad loops of material promotion/demotion recipes. In fact, I agreed so much I went ahead and edited all the other orb pages too...

However Imry also made an excellent point by way of using the recipe on Cooguloosh as an example. By effectively setting "base ingredients = y", what should be a simple recipe spiralled the apparent crafting cost from 50 Gold coin to 210 Gold coin - also if crafted that way ingame it'd be something like 600 mystic forge material promotion recipes to go from t1 mats to t6 then craft the focus. We thought this seemed a bit nuts, and there's a large number of items crafted using orbs too, so this isn't just affecting one page.

We ended up reverting the orbs, though on a positive note we did review other pages with "base ingredients = n" set, and found some that had no benefit, so we removed a few. (This ended up being a bit of a rant but I didn't want to let a quite thought provoking edit get quietly reverted without the reasoning) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:20, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for looking into the base ingredients setting across the site. I don't remember precisely what prompted me to change that page when I typically don't bother, but surely it was something to do with determining crafting costs. That is a completely unexpected result and quite interesting. Thanks for letting me know and I will keep this situation in mind for future edits. Additionally, if a way to make the ingredient query display the materials with the lowest cost instead of dissecting ingredients to the absolute base ever occurs to me, I will be sure to implement it! --Vm0d (talk) 10:49, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
