Armor Talk[edit]

Awesome list of armor on the Scholar page! - anja talk 14:21, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for the compliment. I'm not sure if this is the right way to reply; I'm used to editing wiki pages, not talking through them!
I'm not sure the listing I put together is the best format. I also know for certain its not complete. There's at least two karma sets that aren't listed and I have found parts to other sets in drops, but no full suits yet.
The change I made to the light armor page was an effort to make sure the information is linked up. The wiki's front page links to light armor, medium armor and heavy armor; this is where people will naturally go to. However, there is also http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_armor_sets, which isn't linked to from the front page at all, so it is easily missed, but it has a lot more information.
I've also been adding gallery images to the pages for specific sets that showcase the armors from different sides, just the pieces, and clearly showing the dye areas with contrasting colors so that they can be of maximum help to folks. Its very much inspired by GW1 armor pages like http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gallery_of_female_warrior_Ascalon_armor. Keeping the old/existing galleries helps give folks an idea of how things look with other color combinations.
If you have suggestions for better layouts, I'm all ears. - Karithay
Layouting the armor pages is a HUGE project, I've been trying to wrap my head around it for a while.. I think it's better to just do what you did, add information -somewhere- and then just move it around and restructure it when we find a better structure. For example, I think the Scholar page should be about the profession, not the armor, but there are no better pages for your list atm. At this stage I also think it's better with double information than no information. The dye area galleries are great!
The sets and pieces missing, do you know their names? We could add them as red links, that encourages people to add information about them if they have any :) - anja talk 04:50, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
If we're allowed to edit the front page, then I'd suggest removing the light/medium/heavy armor links there and just make a generic armor link. Have that link briefly mention the differences and link to the appropriate professions (e.g. warrior) and profession types (e.g. scholar). Then have it launch into an exhaustive list (aka the data from the list of armors page). That would provide a solid launch point for armor information.
The best list so far is the list of armors page I mentioned before; it is inclusive of all the armors and organizes things into tables. However, its organization falls apart at the end. It really should have a section for karma armors (the current exotic armors would fall under that), one for drops, one for PvP, and one for special (e.g. items from hall of monuments).
As for the armor bits I've found I can put something together once I have a chance to sit down and work up screen shots. One is trooper armor for the scholar and the other item is labeled as "acolyte gloves", and it looks totally different from the starter "acolyte" set. The latter has matching pieces being sought on the trading post and also sets named after GW1 heroes (e.g. Mhenlo's Gloves) on the trading post. So they're out there.
