Calling item icon in recipe templates[edit]

I appreciate that you're trying to fix a few instances where we've reused the same file, but this change has populated Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded with a lot of new pages. As a side effect most of these pages also can't be read, e.g. Orichalcum Ingot (502). I am strongly considering reverting that change - this will probably mean that I won't be deleting any of the duplicate files used for currencies either. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:12, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Alright, I'll reverse it for now. I think it's partly a problem with the pages being too long to begin with. Mithril ingot is ridiculously long and globs of ecto manages it well by splitting it up into multiple pages. I'll work on splitting up the big pages and then see if this can be re-added. J.Tesla (talk) 18:18, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
User:Chieftain Alex/sandbox3 (12 Oct) - this is one of those problems we're aware of but haven't had a reason to act on. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:22, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Actually I can see that even Glob of Ectoplasm/Weaponsmith made it onto that category. We can only really split these pages by so much. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:24, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Regarding the duplicate files, it should be OK to delete them since they are not related to the recipe list change. I was cleaning up and flagging duplicate icons from this table: Talk:Infusion#Icons. This change was also because of that table. There are some duplicate icons already deleted and the currency template was trying to use them instead of the proper icon from the item infobox. As far as I’m aware the currency template hasn’t negatively affected anything. J.Tesla (talk) 20:07, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
I have found a better solution to the problem I tried to solve with the change to Recipe list result format. Changing the class for the icon fixes it. But I don’t know if it will have unexpected consequences like before since this is such a common template. What do you think? J.Tesla (talk) 20:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Adding a class shouldn't cause any issues. Go for it. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:48, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Before Deletion[edit]

Thanks for helping with the duplicate icons! Much appreciated! But, before you mark an icon as a duplicate for deletion, make sure it's not linked to anything first. Go to the "What links here" and if anything does, either find the link and switch it or do a "Null Edit", ie save the page without changing anything, as it forces the page to update itself, and will update image links as well. Reason I'm saying this is, Model Asura Gates.png still was linked to two pages that needed to be refreshed/a null edit(I just did it, so all good), and I just wanted to give you a heads up on my little trick/what I do when dealing with duplicates. =) - Doodleplex 19:52, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks! I knew those pages needed to update but I had no idea how to do it and "refresh" wasn't doing anything. I'll remember that for the future. J.Tesla (talk) 20:07, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, refresh is good to update a page from having no image to an image if it an image for it was just uploaded, but null edits are a lot more effective at fixing stuff. It's like the best kept secret that shouldn't be a secret heh. Here, I got a whole page of helpful tips and tricks here you can go through if you want to know more of my tricks. ^_^ - Doodleplex 20:11, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Request[edit]

First, thanks for fixing up those duplicate Research icons, much appreciated! Request: can you do what you did to the Item infobox in regards to making the gallery not show up if unimplimented to the skin infobox too? There are two to three unimplimented weapon skins that have no picture and having that for those would be lovely. - Doodleplex 18:42, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Done. You can use "gallery = no" or "gallery1 = no". The proper parameters are "gallery1-5" so if "gallery1" has a value then "gallery" will be ignored. J.Tesla (talk) 21:19, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you! I really need to learn how to do this myself. >_< - Doodleplex 21:21, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Recent infobox changes[edit]

Hi Tesla, great work on everything you've done so far! Unfortunately, I'm afraid that your recent 'adding-releases-to-infoboxes' caused some whitespace issues on almost all infoboxes that aren't historical or such, e.g. Personalized Wintersday Gift or Vigil's Honor Shield. If you know of a fix for that, it'd be much appreciated. Cheers! —Ventriloquist 19:12, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Found and fixed! Thanks for letting me know. J.Tesla (talk) 19:36, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

SAB icons[edit]

Thank you sooo much for making/doing that. I was actually in the process of trying to make a picture of some of those icons in order to ask somebody to get said icons for the baubles but got distracted by everything else in SAB. So, thank you! - Doodleplex 18:02, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Not a problem. I'm just finishing the power up icons now. Let me know if there are any other icons you think we may need. J.Tesla (talk) 18:09, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
Nothing that I can think of off the top of my head no, I think you got everything. =) - Doodleplex 19:48, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

How?[edit]

Just that: How? G R E E N E R 05:19, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

The SAB maps are made entirely out of objects instead of height maps so I searched through the .dat and extracted them all. I then measured them and drew them to scale. After that I loaded up Tyria3D and flew around the zone and started building the map by aligning the objects I’d drawn. Finally I added textures, positioned the sprites and arrows for the hidden rooms. J.Tesla (talk) 11:04, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
Congratulations, your explanation did not diminish my awe. G R E E N E R 06:20, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
I wanted to say map is gorgeous! Are you able to do similar maps for the other zones as well? - Doodleplex 19:14, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, I intend to do the same for all other zones and a version for tribulation mode. Any suggestions for ways to improve it or make it clearer would be appreciated. J.Tesla (talk) 20:00, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
The SAB 'Sunny Glade' map is amazing. Can you point to some guidance for 'searching through the .dat' and extracted them all', 'flew around the zone' Thanks.Separ (talk) 04:31, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
Have a look at this reddit thread to find the browser that I use. From there you will need to open the .dat file which is found in the Program Files (x86)/Guild Wars 2 folder. It will take a while to sort through it for the first time and after each update but from there you can browse and extract any file. As for flying around the map, use Tyria3D. J.Tesla (talk) 19:45, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi J, this is a bit of a long shot after a whole year, but I was wondering if you still had the original file you used to make your amazing Sunny Glade map? I was thinking of having a go at making a Trib mode version, and having a clean map with no flattened sprite layers or jpeg artifacts would be really useful! --Idris (talk) 15:39, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Here is an album of the original high res final stages before I assembled the map (with and without sprites). I didn't use layers when I made this so you may have to cut and paste bits together to get a clean map with the trees and flowers in it. Good luck! J.Tesla (talk) 16:28, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
Brilliant, thank you! --Idris (talk) 16:34, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Hunter's Journal ID's[edit]

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, nearly all of them are incorrect. =< - Doodleplex 20:12, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

oh well, at least it gives me something to do. J.Tesla (talk) 20:26, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Filling in the blanks[edit]

Thanks for not only adding in IDs which were missing for those skins and items, but for fixing all of our lovely copy/paste errors where we used another item's ID! Identifying the latter can be a hassle, so I fully appreciate whatever code you ran to find such mistakes. G R E E N E R 16:32, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

Thanks! This was a first pass to find all the undocumented IDs. I’m working on something that will check IDs to names to catch any more error. Kudos must go to all the wiki editors who’ve been around forever. Out of the 11,000 recipes listed in the API only 20 weren’t documented and they were just copy errors (that are all fixed now). It staggers me just how big and well documented this wiki actually is. J.Tesla (talk) 19:37, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

Once again, very much appreciated! G R E E N E R 18:51, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Extended editor rights[edit]

Hey Tesla, might I interest you in our extended editor program? I see you're doing a lot of moving, and having those redirects automatically deleted may help out our sysop team. G R E E N E R 17:56, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

That would be incredibly useful if you could. Thank you. J.Tesla (talk) 18:38, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

Template help[edit]

Since Alex is on vacation, and I'm not good enough to figure it out myself, I'm hoping perhaps you can fix Template:Craft table row. Apparently all of the Mithril weapons use the Giver's Inscription(as per Talk:Mithril Mace) and the Orichalcum Bringer's inscription as, like the Giver's, has the dash in it's name and I'm stumped on how to get it to work. - Doodleplex 06:30, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

I've been looking into this. It appears that all items before wintersday that had the prefix "Giver's" was renamed to "Bringer's" and a new exotic givers inscription was made. But whoever made the change forgot to rename the old low tier inscriptions so right now low tier Giver's inscriptions/insignia create Bringer's items. All of the Giver's Krait weapons on this page are now called Bringer's Krait. Before I change anything I intend to find all the items affected which is why this is taking a while. SAB maps[edit]

Hey, just wondering if you're planning on making any more of your awesome maps for SAB this year? I ask because I've started working on a map for W1Z2 using your scouting-Tyria3D technique, but it's nowhere near as good as what you produce, so there's not much point in finishing it if you're going to be making a better one! (Still got designs on making trib mode maps eventually, but many of the traps aren't fully visible in Tyria 3D so I'm probably going to have to wait for the festival to be live again before I can scout those.) —Idris User Idris signature.png 06:59, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

I'm aiming to get all of world 1 done before the festival starts and I'm redoing the ones I already have to make them a little cleaner too. I have no plans to do Trib versions since I havn't even completed trib zone 2 yet. J.Tesla (talk) 21:52, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for responding! I'll make some W2 placeholders for this year, then, and when the festival is live I'll start work on researching trib mode for next year. :) Oh and I've starting writing a better walkthrough for W1Z3 on my sandbox which I plan to finish before April -- might be a good idea to make sure our bauble numbering systems match. —Idris User Idris signature.png 05:24, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
I missed my target deadline so I wanted to make an update on this. I am still working on all the maps for world 1 and intend to get them done before the end of the festival this year. The delay has been due to finding a much better means of mapping the worlds where I can slice the map into layers and draw over them. With this new method drawing the maps is significantly quicker and practically 100% accurate. Here is a work in progress map of Dark Woods (1/3rd final scale). My new target is to finish this map by the 7th. J.Tesla (talk) 22:03, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
