I found the LWS1 recap page a bit much to read, there are bits about the annual festival events that don't need to be there, and bits that I feel can be scrapped - names of Characters who appear for one scene, etc. Just trying to make an abridged version of the events that focus on recurring characters you "meet" in Season 2 for the first time. This is currently a work in progress, taking the Storylines section from Living World Season 1 and reducing further.

New Characters[edit]

  • Scarlet Briar - A Sylvari with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Goes insane when knowledge of the universe is revealed to her.
  • Inspector Ellen Kiel - an inspector in the Lionguard
    • aka Captain Ellen Kiel - after being gifted an airship by Captain Magnus
    • aka Council Captain Ellen Kiel - after being elected into the council
  • Captain Magnus - Lionguard, saviour of Ellen Kiel from a shipwreck where she was orphaned.
  • Evon Gnashblade - Leader of the Black Lion Trading Company. Took over the leadership due to the previous incarnation of the BLTC being extortion.
  • Knut Whitebear - Head of Hoelbrak
  • Belinda Delaqua - Sister of Marjory Delaqua

Characters who frequently join in parties[edit]

  • Braham - Norn, son of Eir, lives in Cragstead in the Shiverpeaks
  • Rox - Charr, only surviving member of her warband. Wants to join Rytlock's warband. Pet devourer called Frostbite.
  • Lady Kasmeer Meade - Human, a noble by birth, but her brother gambled away their money.
  • Marjory Delaqua - Human, joined the ministry guard at an early age, but moved into the priory to become a detective.
  • Canach - Sylvari, ex-lionguard, ex-consortium, fugitive
  • Taimi - Asura, accompanied by a golem, Scruffy, due to her legs being affected by a condition causing her not to be able to walk. Mentored by Zojja.

Groups[edit]

  • The Molten Alliance - An alliance between Dredge and the Flame Legion
  • The Consortium - a group of (primarily) asurans who want to make money. Official stance is they like to please their customers
  • The Ministry - a group of ministers who present laws to the king or queen on behalf of humans to be ratified into law.
    • Queen Jennah ascended to the throne too young, so the minsters ruled for a few years in her place.
    • The power they wielded in her stead has caused some to not want to give it up.
  • The Zephyrites - A travelling people, isolated from the world by their Zephyr Sanctum

Storylines[edit]

Flame and Frost[edit]

  • Flame Legion and the Dredge team up to form the Molten Alliance
  • Refugees from Molten Alliance attacks head to the Black Citadel and Hoelbrak, and then eventually on to Lion's Arch.

Replayable with Braham - Retake Cragstead vision in Eye of the North

  • Braham, a Norn, son of Eir Stagelkin, requested assistance from the Black Citadel, then Hoelbrak to defend Cragstead from the Molten Alliance
    • Rytlock dismissed him as a Liar, for calling himself son of Eir; sent him to Hoelbrak.
    • Knut Whitebear did not send aid as needed to protect Hoelbrak if attacked
  • Braham retook Cragstead with a few allies, but lost some as captives.

Replayable with Rox - The Hatchery vision in Eye of the North

  • Rox, a Charr trying to get into Rytlock's warband, retook Nolan Hatchery, with casualties, to prove herself to Rytlock
    • This is where she obtained Frostbite, a baby devourer.

Replayable with Molten Furnace Fractal and Molten Boss Fractal

  • A Sylvari in the Order of Whispers, becomes a double agent, infiltrating the Molten Alliance
    • The Vigil, Rox and Braham use intelligence to raid the Molten Alliance
  • Captives from the raid revealed the Alliance was run by a city dweller of unknown name or whereabouts.

The Secret of Southsun / Last Stand at Southsun[edit]

  • Consortium found to be the benefactor that had been paying for the refugees to be safe in Lion's Arch
    • Their plan was to give them a new home in Southsun Cove, a new resort island.
    • The refugees/settlers then found they were legally bound by contract to remain on the island as part of the deal.
  • Tensions rose between the settler's and the Consortium.
  • Inspector Ellen Keil ordered Captain Magnus to deal with the unrest.
    • Kiel kept the peace by deputizing individuals.
  • Subdirector Noll, in charge of the refugees work, continuously berated them.
  • After the riots escalated to deaths, Noll was lumbered by his Consortium superiors with making the island a success and could not leave either.
  • Lady Kasmeer Meade, under the pretence of a noble visiting for Recreation, was actually fact-finding for Marjory Delaqua.
  • The wildlife on the island became riled
    • Cause found to be a Sylvari flora toxin
    • A settler interviewed led to the following clues: The toxin was from a Sylvari who:
      • was promising the settlers freedom
      • knew about Southsun Cove,
      • and had a grudge against the Consortium.
    • This person was Canach, an ex-lionguard.

Flashback

  • After an Ancient Karka from Southsun tried to attack Lion's Arch 2 years earlier, and was destroyed, Canach fled the Lionguard, becoming a fugitive from both the Lionguard and the Consortium. He was a member of The Vigil that helped attack the Molten Alliance.

End Flashback

  • Canach visited Blingg, the former Consortium subdirector
    • Blingg let Canach know that Noll, who was behind the hitsquads sent against Canach, was at Southsun.
  • Canach set up a hideout on Southsun, and ordered the Karka to attack the places where the records of contract binding the refugees were kept.

Replayable with Canach's Lair (vision) in Eye of the North

  • Kiel had all the contracts "moved to Lion's Arch", but then set off a rigged explosion on the ship they were on, blaming Canach.
  • The settlers are now free, and the nobles were escorted back to Lion's Arch.

Dragon Bash / Sky Pirates of Tyria / Bazaar of the Four Winds[edit]

  • A new festival, reminiscent of the Canthan Dragon Festival
  • An effigy lighting festival to Commences the festival
  • A mysterious individual named 'E' said there would be a threat to the Ship's Council of Lion's Arch at the ceremony, and that 'they' would intervene, but circumstances prevented it
  • During the lighting of the pyre, an electrical discharge caused the pyre to explode.
    • Kiel led the Lionguard response
    • A woman from the crowd assisted with the healing.
    • The three council members were put on a dolyak cart for healing at Fort Marriner
      • Captain Theo Ashford did not survive.
  • Logan Thackeray located Marjory Delaqua, a former Ministry Guard, to find out who was behind the attack.
  • Marjory meets up with Kiel, and offers assistance to the Lionguard
    • Discovers the discharge was triggered on purpose
    • Arcane magic found on one of the other casualties of the explosion
    • Same arcane magic found on one of the healers, Mai Trin
  • Mai Trin's plan was to make a space on the Council so someone (Mai Trin?) on her "side" could be elected in
  • Aetherblade pirates helped her evade capture.
  • Aetherblade continued to disrupt the festival.

Replayable with Aetherblade Fractal and Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal

  • Ellen Kiel led the Lionguard into the search for Mai Trin
    • Raided the Diverse Ledges in the outskirts of Lion's Arch.
    • The sewer system was concealed by a holographic projection
      • Led to a shanty-town under the mountains
    • The Inquest started assisting the Aetherblade.
    • Mai Trin discussing their fear of "Scarlet" for her failure to get into the Council.
    • Mai Trin and accomplice tried to escape in airships similar to the Lionguard's
      • Through interrogation, these were powered by Inquest's technology.
  • Second base was found, and an airship captured.
  • The space on the council was nominated for Kiel
    • Magnus commandeered the airship in her name to qualify her for the nomination condition of being a captain
  • The Bazaar of the Four Winds is held
    • The Bazaar is an illegal pirate black market.
  • Evon Gnashblade, owner of the Black Lion Trading Company, nominated himself in direct competition of Kiel.
  • Kiel's edge over Evon, is to try and gain a trade contract with the Zephyrites
  • Kiel and Gnashblades histories are revealed
  • Kiel was chosen by pirate majority as the one who would lead the trade agreement, and thus won the seat on the Council.

Queen's Jubilee / Clockwork Chaos / Twilight Assault[edit]

  • Queen holds a festival, intent to show the world humanity has not fallen
    • Reveals the watchknights, a sentient golem-esque mechanical being, with the ability to change form through mesmeric illusions.
  • Ministry not invited, due to past scandals.
  • Champions invited from around the world to fight them to test them.
  • During the fights, Watchknights illusion magic controlled by Countess Anise of the Shining Blade
  • Aetherblade attacked, and Anise lost control to a mysterious figure.
  • Rox eventually hit the figure from afar causing the stranger to escape.
  • Queen keeps the ceremony going in order to prevent the appearance of failure.
  • At the closing ceremony the stranger reappeared, calling herself Scarlet Briar.
    • Advised of bombs planted, and triggered the Watchknights to turn into abominations, and attempted to kidnap the Queen.
    • Queen was an illusion. Bombs disarmed.
    • Scarlet advised one more bomb under the evac point, causing heavy casualties.
  • Scarlet locked herself into the arena in the pavillion
  • An attempt to reverse engineer portals eventually proves successful.
  • Scarlet escaped on Aetherblade ships pre-prepared

Flashback

  • Scarlet revealed as a Sylvari named Ceara
  • Offended by the linear purpose given to her and her people by the Pale Tree, and left the grove at age 8
  • Became an apprentice at Norn, Charr and Asuran cities; although the latter was more so she could be studied.
    • Her thesis of the Eternal Alchemy being a key to access "the basic fabric or reality itself" was not well received by her mentod, Omadd.
  • Joined the Inquest, who allowed her access to more dangerous knowledge.
  • Omadd tracked her down eventually, assisted work on an isolation chamber
  • Scarlet uses the isolation chamber to view the universe, where the Pale Tree appeared in a vision and pleaded with her not to go on as it would make her lost and dangerous
    • Scarlet continues regardless
  • Upon leaving her chamber, kills Omadd.

End Flashback

  • Intel shows Scarlet's Lair in Twilight Arbor.
  • Magnus ordered a raid.
  • Caithe also raiding separetly.
    • Caithe knew Scarlet as Ceara from before she left The Grove.
  • Scarlet had sent Caith a challenge directly.
  • Raid failed.
  • Caithe found a way in for a small group.
    • Holograms taunted her whilst she penetrated the lair.
  • Most of the enemies are holograms,
    • Real Aetherblades captured Caithe.
  • Lair shut down by Lionguard.

Tower of Nightmares / The Nightmare Within[edit]

  • Mesmer Veil appears over Viathan Lake in Kryta.
  • Lady Kasmeer Meade called to investigate.
    • Veil broken, reveals a tower.
  • Tower being guarded by Nightmare Courtiers and local Krait (the Toxic Alliance).
    • An ambush caused Marjory Delaqua to return to Divinity's Reach, Kasmeer stays.
  • Tower guarding something important.
  • Tower emits a mass toxin causing sickness and destruction.
  • Ela Makkay, a Priory Scholar, assists with investigations into Toxic Alliance bonds, determining the Nightmare Court was a radical offshoot of the real Nightmare Court.
  • Marjory developed an anti-toxin, and feared for Lady Kasmeer showing more interest in the toxin's mesmerising capabilities.

Replayable with The Nightmare Incarnate in Eye of the North

  • Tower found to be a wall around a giant toxic plant.
  • As the tower was penetrated, hallucinations outside became worse.
  • Tower was defended by Toxic Alliance, Aetherblade Pirates, Molten Alliance and Clockwork Minions.
    • All linked to Scarlet by this point
  • Ela Makkay determines Krait were given bloodstone shards as proof of their returned prophets.
    • Krait alliance with the Nightmare Court was under the belief that they were brining their prohpets back.
  • Whilst scaling the tower:
    • Scarlet telports in
    • Takes toxic seeds
    • A young Krait sprouts from a coccoon
    • Scarlet tries to take also
      • The Krait-Sylvari hybrid was killed by it's Krait protectors
    • Anti-toxin injected
    • Made the plant stronger as it learnt to counter it's effects.
    • New anti-toxin made on the fly causing tower to crumble.
  • Marjory and Kasmeer meet Rox and Braham, all were in the tower together.

Fractured / The Origins of Madness[edit]

  • Ellen Kiel leads reasearch into the Thumanova Reactor disaster.
  • Investigating in a fractal, Scarlet appeared as a vision
    • Surmises that the Reactor experiments were happening on ley-lines.
  • Random red probes appear across Tyria.

Replayable with The Twisted Marionette in Eye of the North

  • A giant Marionette lands in the Shiverpeaks
    • Some kind of weapon test by Scarlet.
  • Taimi, an admirer of Scarlet, joins Marjory, Kas, Rox, Braham.
    • They defeat the Marionette.
  • Taimi advises probes are searching for something, not dangerous.
    • Rytlock's warband confirms the probes are looking for something big and magical
  • Logan takes Taimi, an orphan, back to Lion's Arch.
  • Ele Makkay reveals Scarlet's lab under a Priory establishment
  • Scarlet's lab searched
    • A journal shows she became consumed with an entitiy
    • Entity was previously tormenting her in her nightmares
    • After consumed by it, now no longer scared of it.

Several backstories and character interaction meetings occur at this point

The Edge of the Mists[edit]

  • Aetherblade pirates free Mai Trin
  • Canach chooses not to escape at the same time
  • Mai Trin gets communication from Scarlet to go to the Mists
    • Aetherblades open portals there.
    • Taimi and Braham follow through.
  • Probe in Lion's Arch goes green
  • Kasmeer and Marjory are revealed to be a couple
  • Taimi is revealed to have a condition meaning she has no use of her legs
    • Partially forms the admiration of Scarlet to go beyond what should be capable
    • Taimi presumes the condition will eventually take the rest of her body.
  • Probes are determined to be searching for Ley-lines
  • Investigation finds Scarlet is ramping up for a mass attack on Lion's Arch, with Aetherblade ships from the air.
  • Council does not take action based on the investigation

Escape from Lion's Arch / Battle for Lion's Arch[edit]

  • Attack on the City from Scarlett from the air.
  • Escape attempted, most Asura gates destroyed by airship
  • Gnashblade went through the last one and closed it behind him, trapping citizens behind him
  • Miasma dropped onto the city, killing 50%-75% of those it reached.
  • Drill dropped onto the city where the probe is
  • Magnus led defence, losing an eye in the process
  • Kiel joined the fray, using her personal airship.
  • Taimi with the refugees, reveals she no longer wants to work with the mass-murderer.

Marjories history is revealed

  • Wind blows Miasma out to sea.
  • Batallion re-takes Trader's Forum
  • Scarlet's Watchwork Knight's attacked
  • Magnus ordered the death of Scarlet.
  • Scarlet sends reinforcements,
  • Attacks with a hologram version of herself throughout the battle.
    • Increases the power of the hologram until eventually it is too much for Scarlet
  • Hologram disassembed and Scarlet injured
  • Ship is boarded
  • She reveals "Tyria will bow before a new master".
  • Scarlet set's off an explosion
  • Marjory appears dead
    • Kasmeer enraged, goes after Scarlet.
    • Rox saves Marjory.
    • Kasmeer eventually kills Scarlet
  • Scarlet's dying words explaining you are all fools for thinking her death is the end
  • Drill in Lion's Arch strikes a ley-line, blue light across the world over the lines, awakens Mordremoth.
  • Pact reveals they did not get involved as it was not a dragon attack. Turned out they were wrong and now want to help.
  • Taimi explains complicated things to the rest of the team
