Feedback 2015/08/12[edit]

Items on this page appear in acquisition methods on said item's pages. Is there a way to avoid this ? For example on Karma Booster, the "\{\{vendor list\}\}" thing makes gem store appear when it shouldn't anymore. --Eowin (talk) 17:59, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Had to muck about in a couple templates, but I think this should be fixed. You'll probably need to use the "refresh" tab to force-expire the wiki's cached version of pages. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:23, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

vendor list doesn't work anymore[edit]

Items on this page are not picked up by Template:Vendor list, even with "include historical vendors=y". In contrast the normal Gem Store page works. Tyndel (talk) 11:28, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Seems like after a certain item it breaks, Aviator Sunglasses work but Confetti Mail Delivery doesn't. Tyndel (talk) 11:33, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Do we need to display items no longer available to a vendor?--Relyk ~ talk < 13:00, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
For gemstore items, if it was the only source of the item, I'd say so. A user can look on an item's page and can directly see whether it is available. That way we only need to update Gem Store and Gem Store/historical. Tyndel (talk) 13:18, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
As far as I know there is a limit to the number of subobjects that can be placed on one page. I will address another problem that I have identified - when I moved the main gem store tables to subpages they weren't supposed to create the subobjects on the main page, only the sub. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 13:35, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
If it helps you, the template stops working just before Marjory's Axe Skin, aka the place where Mora removed Kasmeer's Staff Skin yesterday. Tyndel (talk) 13:42, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Splitting the subobjects onto subpages seems to have fixed it. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:22, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Moving historical pages to subpages like Gem Store/storage/Upgrades is a pretty shitty solution. Instead, we can refactor these into the section subpages and not show historical items to the tables. That simplifies updating to changing the historical flag on the item. Now that I added sections to vendor subobjects, the Gem Store page can be changed to queries. The Gem Store page organizes the items manually by type, the better method is to sort by item type automatically.--Relyk ~ talk < 15:52, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

I would argue that cutting and pasting a section to another page is easier than adding an individual flag to each row entry. The historical page names could easily be "Gem Store/Boosts/historical" but whatever it doesn't really matter. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:59, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Plus if you stick historical Style items and current Style items on the same page you're going to increase the number of subobjects - which is why we had a problem in the first place. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:00, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Proposal[edit]

Greetings folks. Let's face it: this page is rather compact, steadily increases in size, and takes really long to load despite being split up in subpages. Due to this, I'd like to further separate the content into a historical page, which is basically this page, and move this page and all its subpages to Gem Store/storage. The storage page will then be flagged with a new template, indicating that the items listed are part of a recurring inventory. Concerning the content of the proposed historical page, I will monitor the items listed and remove any that are reintroduced at any point (as it stands right now, it is likely that a few permanent finishers make their return in the near future). Otherwise, I expect the page will remain mostly untouched.
Now my questions; does anyone have any objections or concerns? Further, am I perhaps overlooking some technical complications that might arise? User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 21:16, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

I'm sure Alex would know of any technical limitations, but I can say I completely trust you with any changes you make to the Gem Store pages. You've done excellent work documenting everything, and I'm not sure anyone on the wiki is more qualified to know what's best for these pages than you. —Ventriloquist 21:20, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
We need to change everything related to historical gem store stuff, make any changes you wish and we'll figure something out for the templates. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:20, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
All right, thank you both! User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 13:54, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Done so far. Bad news first:

  • The new storage page still needs quite a bit time to load. EDIT: Apparently needed a bit time, load times have decreased, 'tis good now.
  • The items stored on said page do display their prices, but are still listed as (historical), I don't know how to change this sadly.
  • The items of the new historical page on the other hand no longer retrieve their prices through the vendor list template. Same as the above.

Good news: the new historical page works all pages are functional and have decent loading times. User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 15:24, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
