Known Incursion Attempts, Vol. 3

A bookmark pulls you to a passage midway through the volume. You wonder who was reading it last.

Following Marron's failed attempts to breach the tower walls, a great many were inspired to do the same—the cult of Verata being a primary suspect for nearly a decade's time. Just before Isgarren and Zeak, the present Warden of the Astral Ward, were reading to move the tower from its slumber in Kessex back to the bounds of Amnytas (which was fixed across the ocean, far to the north at the time), a small splinter group of more or less corrupt necromancers led by Verata himself managed to ascend the exterior wall. Only a handful of the ward were present at the time, but, under Isgarren's orders, went into hiding while Isgarren and Zeak set an elaborate trap.

Isgarren, disguised as a young human boy, guided Verata and his cultists through the halls of the tower in the form of a chase. Most of the doors were locked, limiting their pursuit. They cornered him in the Hall of Confluence, but before they could capture the fleeing boy, Isgarren offered the many treasures of his master. Verata balked at the notion, demanding to be told more of the tower's secrets. Where did it come from? Who was this "master"?

As they interrogated Isgarren, one of the necromancers stepped a little too close to one of the cosmic gateways in the chamber. Isgarren begged them not to get too near, lest they unravel the truth behind the Wizard's Tower. Verata, being much too eager to see through Isgarren's games, guided the young boy to step through first so they could follow. He did, and while Isgarren was safely deposited in another section of the Wizard's Tower, Verata and his cultlings were dropped straight into the ocean. It took them hours, swimming from island to island, to make it back to the coast.
