wanna make this a project in project namespace? - Lucian Shadowborn User Aios sig.png 23:14, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

I would say go ahead, except that Erasculio is just waiting for Poke and Wikichu to swoop down and move them all. Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 23:42, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
Lucian has a good idea, actually. Some images are ready to be moved, but they are the minority within the nearly 600 pieces of concept art we have. I'm afraid my holiday will be over before I can rename everything.
Right now, I'm doing the following:
  • Taking a look at the concept art category in order to find common themes to group the images around.
  • Grouping all images in a single theme at this page in order to figure out how many images said theme has, if it's better to subdivide said theme, and so on. For example, I have just grouped a lot of images at a "Creatures" theme, but it would have way too many images. I then took all dragon images and made a "Dragon" theme section, with just 14 images.
  • Then, trying to figure out the official name of each image. The images from GDC and the teaser trailer more often than not do not have official names (when they are available from other source, usually the other source has a better quality anyway, so the GDC/trailer image is deleted). This has been helping me in finding the official name of the other images; by official, I mean either the name ArenaNet has given to the image, or the name the author has given to the image. The Shatterer image, for example, is listed as "Dragon Litenant" at Kekai Kotaki's page, but as "The Shatterer" at ArenaNet's blog, so I went with the latter. Some images are not available anymore, or just don't have an official name.
  • Then, trying to find some order within each group. For the "Dragon" theme, I went with the main dragons first (Primordius, Zhaitan, then the Shatterer), then with images following a similar style, then with the rest.
  • Then, renaming the images following the order above, putting in parenthesis the official name (when available), and checking to see if the order is something in which the images look nice.
  • Then checking again to see if any image has not been left outside the group (I have just taken another look at the concept art category to see if there was a dragon image I had forgotten to add here).
The concept art pieces for humans and for environments are going to be something hard to organize, considering how there are a lot of them, and the remaining images are also going to take a while. Help would be very much welcomed. Ideally, we would look at all concept art images, one by one, and group them under some kind of theme, but that's too time consuming for me; I'm waiting until the move begins so at least there are less images waiting organization. Sign me up, though during Christmas days it is not very convenient. :P - Infinite - talk 02:04, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
Same. :) - Lucian Shadowborn User Aios sig.png 02:27, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
I too shall help, as I still have a week of break ^.^ Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 02:45, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
: ) Thanks, guys. Feel free to edit this page (although it would probably be better to not remove stuff from the "Images to be moved", in case poke is warming Wikichu already). Erasculio 13:35, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Creatures and Environments[edit]

How should we name these? I mean, we don't even know the names of half the creatures for which we have concept art for, and environments are a whole other can of worms. On the other hand, we could just do "Environment 01 concept art." Whats your opinion Erasculio? Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 00:14, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

My original idea was to remove as many images from the main creature group as possible (I'm thinking of a Undead group and an Insectoid group), and gather everything else into a "Creature 01 concept art" sequence. Likewise with the environment images, my idea was to make as many groups as possible ("Dragonbrand 01 concept art", "Forest 01 concept art", "Cave 01 concept art", "Ice land 01 concept art", etc) and then gather what remains at a "Environment 01 concept art" group. Erasculio 01:23, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I like both those ideas, I'll get started on environments if you want to work on creatures... Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 01:30, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
Heh, thanks for the help, this would have taken months if I were to do it myself : ) Erasculio 01:31, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I want some opinions on the sorting. Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 01:49, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
I really liked the biggest group (which I imagine will be the forest group). You picked all relevant images, and I like the order of the concept art as well. The fifth group looks nice, too (the one with the plants), although I would have picked a different order (the two images with the text first, then the ones with the grey background, and then the image with the single plant at the end). I liked the sixth group too, but I think the fourth image may be better in a mountains group (if we have more mountain images). I would wait a bit more before sorting the other groups, to see if we find a way to organize them in larger groups (I would like to avoid small groups of images). But of course, all of that is just my opinion. Erasculio 13:44, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
