I am a believer in tithing, or donating one tenth of my increase to God. Some ways I make gold in the game are easily tracked, and I wished to apply this principle to those activities. But - what does it mean to donate to God, in a game? I've decided to reserve the money for activities which improve the lives of the players of the game, supporting good causes and leaders.

As part of that effort, I present the Building a Better Community awards. These are arbitrary disbursements chosen by the Building a Better Community fund manager[1] to be awarded to players who are witnessed performing actions which benefit the community - especially players who are newer to the game.

While motivation can switch from intrinsic to extrinsic if a reward is offered, research indicates that if the reward is unexpected and timely, it can instead increase intrinsic motivation.
