Talk:Skipping Stones

From Guild Wars 2 Wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

Start of this JP is just south of Lion Point Waypoint. The first part has you jumping on rock platforms that are being held up by fountains. 188.60.249.61 21:15, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

The 2nd part too, except now there are holes in it and you occasionally need to jump on the rocky sections. The last part has you jumping on rocky outcrops. Waar Kijk Je NaarUser Waar Kijk Je Naar sig.png 21:39, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Shortcut[edit]

Can someone confirm the shortcut still exists? Looking at videos, it appeared pretty simple, but I was unable to do it. Also, looking at the videos, it appears that the geyser you jump to may have been shifted slightly, which makes me think this area may have been tweaked a bit in some updated. Solvar 05:58, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

I used to do the shortcut on a regular base after finding it on the release weekend (and contributed to it's description here on wiki) but as for now, it seems either the lower stepstone is altered so that you cannot stand on it with both feet anymore or the geyser to jump on was indeed moved or at least altered a bit (within the last around 7 days or so) so the shortcut seems to be disabled for now. if anybody managed to still jump on it please post about it. thanks 80.137.55.115 11:03, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
I compared one of the older videos with the area now, seems the geyser to jump on was turned on it's axis by about 90-100 degree so it now shows the higher rim towards the little stepstone instead of the lower one to jump on. means, shortcut is indeed gone. [80.137.41.213 14:32, 29 December 2012 (UTC)]
a shortcut is still there at least for guardians, however im not sure how to describe where to stand etc. Spark-TBa 07:39, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Second Youtube guide[edit]

I've removed the second YouTube guide because it is slower than the first one and shows the exact same path, if everyone would add their YouTube of them solving the same puzzle in the same way our pages would be infinite. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 79.183.142.6 (talk).

I plan to remove the video altogether after the excitement dies down and the walkthrough is fleshed out.--Relyk 07:24, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

It explains and shows an easier way to complete the first part of the puzzle which is probably the hardest part to do. SnakeIet 08:03, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

I have recreated the video demonstrating only the start trick and not the full playthrough to help those having difficulty with it. This is to make it more obvious as to what I was trying to explain the the first video. If users wish to remove it, please explain why in the discussion so that I don't waste my time rendering videos to help others. SnakeIet 07:21, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.25.91.30 (talk).

After the links being removed again, I have edited them so that they provide youtube search results rather than direct links to videos as per notes in history by ZeeZ who removed them and left links to further discussions about youtube links.SnakeIet 11:18, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Why on earth would you remove the video links? They're much clearer than any text based guide. Wiki-bureaucracy I presume? 80.112.181.245 09:26, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
 1. Go to youtube
 2. Search puzzle name and pick one from about 30 videos
 3. ???
 4. Profit!
If you can't manage that, there are a multitude of forums, blogs, and other social media available. The wiki is not one of those places.--Relyk 09:36, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

What is your problem? I remade and re-rendered the video again, based on your comments, because you weren't happy about its length and what it demonstrated. I re-wrote the links so that they abide by the rules specified to me and have complied as per what was written. They demonstrate useful information. I edited the links so that they provide query results as per direction from ZeeZ and yet you still remove my content. This is an open source wiki. Everybody is allowed to contribute. Stop removing the links. I put effort into creating those videos for the benefit for the community and I do not profit from any of the videos I created for the GW community so I don't see what your problem is with me providing search results to tricks and shortcuts to help those having a hard time with it. I have tried to comply to everything I have read that has been provided, so how about you discuss it prior to editing it rather than make me jump through hoops to please you. SnakeIet 13:26, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

I really am tempteted to make the youtube walkthrough link generic, so that the name of the page will be converted into a http://lmgtfy.com/ link like this
But on a serious note. The youtube search queary is really easy to generate, when you look at this url so perhaps we should just write the youtube template in a way that it starts a search query on youtube so we can make sure that always the "best" (read most popular) solution is linked.
The problem with linking videos directly is that there will be always discusions about why this video is added and not that etc. - Yandere Talk to me... 06:26, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Alternate Route by Nullcron[edit]

Could somebody please revert this nonsense? He is just describing the normal route in different words and adds the extra chest with the champion reef rider which is already mentioned in the notes section. Also the first hint about an alternate route is not even in the spoiler part so it shows to everybody. Unfortunately you have to be logged in for section removal, so I can't do it myself. Thanks in advance for removing. 80.137.50.129 01:30, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

the alternative route it is talking about is actually a shortcut. It is there although difficult to do, I dont think it should be called an alternative though as it's normal path just started later. Spark-TBa 07:46, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Can someone clarify or remove this trash? "East of the cave" is so vague it's completely useless. And neither does logic permit it to be true, if you start east of the cave, then go east-east-east. Unless you wanna jump to Pride Point. 62.178.206.209 23:17, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
i could get a screenie of the starting location east of the cave for the page if you really want one, without it i think its hard to know where to start just by description sometimes. Spark-TBa 00:26, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
actually his first sentence about his "alternate route" sounds a lot like the shortcut that was already altered by Anet "An alternate path is outside the cave on the north sea side there is a low geyser you can get on top of." low geyser on the northern row really sounds like that former shortcut which is already mentioned in the hints. But if you think it is a different route or that this shortcut still works fine, a video could help if you can't describe it in words. And to avoid it being instantly removed like others before, maybe first post the link here in discussion. 80.137.26.180 04:47, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
the alternative route i was talking about is the one on the main page now, i never did the alternative route the old way so i cant comment about it now, the double jump part works as ive seen many people doing it, but for guardians you can jump to the preceding geyser using greatsword jump skill and get into a possition to carry on from there with no stones needed, my pc isnt up to recording and playing at same time, but if anyone is in whiteside ridge server and would like to view me doing the guardian for proof of this paths validity here i can do it for them to record. Spark-TBa 18:43, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
I'd vote we remove the note about the alternate route. The note is INCREDIBLY vague, and the fact that no one who claims it's possible has bothered to even post a screenshot makes it seem dubious. Also, 62.178 brings up a good point: starting east of the cave, and continously going east does not logically make sense. 69.249.227.39 06:51, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
I've posted screenshots into the gallery for both shortcuts, now you guys can stop bitching.--Relyk ~ talk > 11:17, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
in fact it would have been rather reason to really start bitching about one class being able to shortcut while others can't. Anet helped out by removing this ledge as well, removing this shortcut for all classes now. 80.137.59.205 07:04, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Skipping Skipping Stones[edit]

Skipping this JP is quite easy of you have a flying mount or Springer with Bond of Faith. Go to the south-western cape of the island which is opposite to the final chest (this area is often occupied by Reef Drake Broodmother). Make a couple of steps back from the end of the area with Mounts Disabled, jump/fly up and use the Bond of Faith. You land on the plain shelf and can easily get to the wooden "bridge" made of the ship wreckage, cross it and the Grand Chest is in sight. Good jumping! --109.228.75.165 20:24, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
