"Hold the Line!"[edit]

"Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you're already dead!" 136.159.72.4 22:03, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

That's funny; I was immediately thinking Toto... 94.209.65.245 15:49, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
This reminds me of the whole "hold the line" speech from Mass Effect User Dre Sig.pngDre 09:15, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

I double checked in game to make sure but it should probably be noted that this skill affects both the player AND allies when used. So far all the descriptions of this skill I've seen in the wiki say only allies. I tested this skill alone and in a group and my character gained the effects on both occasions. 130.76.32.198 05:20, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for checking I have been wondering about this. Valorien 06:22, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Breaking stun for allies?[edit]

I have a questions, does "Hold the Line", break stun for the caster or also for the allies it is applied on? 82.176.25.206 12:10, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Because of your question I dedicated half an hour of yesterday's stress test to find that out. While it was very hard to tell, I DO believe that it doesn't. Basically in sPVP I waited for my allies to get stunned (primarely by mesmers) and it does not seem to work. I am still not 100% certain, so I do not post this on this article.--DIVA 14:45, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Not Truly An Instant Activation?[edit]

I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but, if you perform an emote and use any other Shout in the game, the character will activate the ability and carry on with their emote. However, in the case of Hold The Line, when activating the skill, the character will stop his current emote or activity. This to me suggests that there's is some casting time or animation attached to the skill that is so small or insignificant that it goes totally unnoticed. Interesting all the same though. Also, being the only Shout without a voice over, suggests that it was indeed a late addition, so it's possible it could have more rushed coding than the other Shouts. 82.11.226.30 18:17, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Quotes[edit]

Reading through the list of things you can say when using this skill, I think its pretty clear that there's a glitch where when you use this skill, you yell out things that are supposed to be used in other situations. Therefore I don't really think its worth our time to document them or to have a list of them on the article, just include a note that sometimes you yell out things intended for other actions. Psycho Robot (talk) 19:57, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

I'd agree if they were just random quotes used for other things, as Relyk's edit makes it seem, but they're not. Many of them seem to be unique to the skill and aren't said anywhere else. Just because sometimes you'll say something that doesn't relate to your situation that doesn't mean all of the quotes are worth deleting... -Somohexual (talk) 01:12, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
What was a quote that wasn't used in any other situation? From what I saw all the quotes seemed to be typical "receiving boons" quotes, like "total power boosting" (might) and "shield me from harm" (protection), generic action quotes, like "rocket boots go" (casting Rocket Boots) and various tower capturing lines, and some other things. If you continue listing things, you will basically be creating a complete list of every context sensitive quote in the game. I would imagine that any quotes that you say aren't used are just quotes whose context you have not encountered, or did not notice. Psycho Robot (talk) 01:49, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
  1. I've never had Rocket Boots make a character shout "Rocket boots go!".
  2. I've never had capturing a tower make a character shout anything.
  3. None of the quotes are used by ANY boons.
Just because a quote sounds like it matches with a "combat action" that doesn't mean it's actually used by it...

I know that total power boosting and shield me from harm are used by asurans receiving might and protection respectively, I've heard it numerous times before. I'll admit I've never heard the rocket boots line being used, but its obvious that it was intended for that skill. Whether they are actually used or not, if we continue documenting the things shouted when using this skill, this article will just become a giant list of random unrelated quotes and I don't think its appropriate. Psycho Robot (talk) 03:34, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
For the record, devs have confirmed[1] that there's a problem with the voiceover for this skill. That doesn't shed much light on the random-looking quotes, though. --Felbryn (talk) 03:41, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
