Nice work[edit]

This is good work from you Dr. I like the idea of the outlined maps. Keep it up! Hencovic 19:47, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

I own all of Malchor's Leap so far.--Relyk ~ talk > 20:11, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I've got them all ready to upload, it's just a boring job of doing it one-by-one since we don't have mw:Extension:MultiUpload installed here. (Alleviated a bit by the Linkclump extension for Chrome, so I can right-click-drag over all the links for a zone and open them in tabs simultaneously. But still boring.) —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:42, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
Woot, all 632 locator maps uploaded. FYI, once I had all the borders drawn in one gigantic SVG file, I wrote a Perl script to automatically split them into zones, then create copies with each area highlighted. So this part was fairly easy.
Now, on to the far-less-automated process of layering the SVG onto a JPG composite of the in-game map and cropping out all 632 areas. Joy. Unless someone around here knows anything about GIMP scripting... —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
Semi-automation achieved - using AutoHotKey to run keyboard macros on GIMP. No need for a Perl/etc. script when everything can be done through window commands. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:28, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

DONE[edit]

I am finally finished with this bloody project. Now I just need a few hours to upload everything. Good thing I'm between projects at work again! —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:32, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Zone maps[edit]

First of all, congrats on this "little" project. Are the map boundaries put together completely manually? I was wondering if you could supply clean svg images for zones (or send them to me somehow). We've been thinking about adding these to the german wiki too, and would like to test a little before we go into the details for areas. With the images currently available, we'd have to merge two SVG files from areas to get a zone SVG to put over our own map screenshots with german text. --Tera 14:43, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Just take one SVG and edit it to remove the highlighting (SVGs are just text files):
...fill:#ff0000;stroke:#000000;stroke-width:14;......fill:none;stroke:#000000;stroke-width:7;...
I was planning on uploading blank locators anyway, but this way you can go ahead without waiting on me. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:19, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
And to answer your first question, yes, I drew them all "by hand" with Inkscape, tracing over screenshots I took of each individual area as I explored them (to make this easier I used uMod to convert the map background to a solid color). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:25, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

WvW maps[edit]

Can you do this to all wvw maps, please? We are trying to update all WvW area pages, because they are a big mess lol --W.Wolf (talk) 23:37, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Nope, WvW is like cities - the whole map is uncovered as a single unit, so there's no way to directly see the area boundaries. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:00, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Updated maps needed in Wayfarer Foothills[edit]

Not sure if this is the right place to leave a note, but I noticed that the renown heart Challenge the minions of Jormag, the ice dragon in the Svanir's Dome and Solitude Vale areas in Wayfarer Foothills has moved since the maps were created so both areas probably could use new maps showing the current location of the heart.

Also, on the Borealis Forest page, the map thumbnail has a different right boundary than the full map when you click on the thumbnail. - Erianna (talk) 23:53, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
