Born to nobility, Mark had a very easy life growing up when compared to the many other citizens of Divinity's Reach. To the dismay of his parents, he took to tinkering with machines from a very early age and this has resulted in him becoming proficient at engineering.
Once Mark was an adult he used his wealth and influence to form a guild with a fire elementalist known as "the Loonie Firestarter" or just "Loonie" to his friends. Loonie told Mark of an ancient guild that was formed during the Guild Wars, before Ascalon was destroyed by the Searing. The guild used to be a merchant's guild called the Guild of Cargo or GOC for short. However as times became more desparate, the guild became more proactive in fighting off the Charr. They were at ends with King Adelbern's policy of holding the line and were supporters of Prince Rurik. Consequently they believed that they needed either a leader or government that listened to the people, which prompted them to rename the guild, the Guild of Choice. For their guild emblem, they used a hand to represent the need for the people to have their own say. GOC went on to save Tyria countless times, against the Vizier Khilbron, Shiro Tagachi, Abaddon and even the Great Destroyer.
Inspired by the bravery and heroism of the original GOC, Mark decided to create the new guild in its image. GOC was back in action and ready to combat the greatest threat Tyria has ever faced: the Elder Dragons!
