I shall make you one of my minions!

— Ienzo de Zaniah

I'm Ienzo de Zaniah.

Grenth, the god of death, blessed me when I was young. Though trouble may follow me, I overcome it with dignity.

I grew up among the nobility, and I value my honor. I've made something of myself, and the only thing I regret is that I never searched for my true parents.

A necromancer's closest companion is death. In acknowledgement of this, I mark my face with the symbol of a ghostly wraith.

This is my story.

Biography[edit]

A Baby and a Skull

Ienzo was just a baby when he was found in Divinity's Reach, on the Plaza of Grenth. His foster parents, Earl Maxwell and Countess Sophie, discovered him with three items: a necklace with his name, a parchment and a skull.

According to the parchment, Ienzo was born on the 25th day of the season of Scion, 1304 AE, the skull was a lucky charm for him, and he needed protection because his parents couldn't afford him anymore. Ienzo was in danger, they were after them, and... The rest was unreadable, it looked like a mix between Old Canthan and Elonian dialect.

Even though a great danger could have awaited Ienzo, Earl Maxwell and Countess Sophie raised him as their own child, and he grew within luxury and wealth, going from parties to balls, meeting rich people such as Countess Anise and Lord Faren who will both later become his friends.

Finding the Roots

Ienzo studied the History of Tyria, as he is fascinated by his past as well as the Dragons. He decided to find his real parents, but their names weren't in many books. He found some information, thanks to his acquaintances. his parents were supposedly living in an abandonned farm in Darkwound Defile. Accompanied by Exemplar Mehid and Exemplar Salia from the Shining Blade, he discovered his parents' tombs. Searching in the ruins of the farm, he found a hidden door sealed with necromancer magic. Ienzo managed to open it, and found an old chest. The chest contained a book, a bottle of yellowy sand with a tag, various jewels and bags of money, and a piece of veiny stone.

The tag on the bottle read "Desolation". Where did he heard that last? The stone looked like wood, and some faint magic seemed to emanate from it. The jewels were nothing particular, except they didn't look like anything done in Tyria.

The book was his family's history. According to his genealogy, members of his family could be found in the three major regions of the planet, Tyria, Cantha, and Elona. Since contacts were cut from the two latter continents, maybe wasn't he the only survivor of the family? His family descends from two famous necromancers, Eve and Vergil de Zaniah, one of the saviors of Tyria who fought during the Searing until Kormir's ascension into godhood. Adam, the lucky charm, was being passed from one generation to another since Eve. Ienzo took the book in his home in Divinity's Reach and spend the following days and nights reading it.

His family and their friends created a guild, The Angels of the Zodiac, to keep an eye on the dormant forces hidden through the world: the de Zaniah and Nabreus families were in charge of Tyria, the Lesath and de Syrma families of Elona, and the Sykes and Sargas families of Cantha. According to the book, the Nabreus family disappeared in the Great Tsunami when Zhaitan awoke in 1219 AE. Both the Sargas and de Syrma families supposedly disappeared in 1077 AE and 1120 AE respectively, the former when the Ministry of Purity was established and the latter when Primordius awoke. Since it was not sure their organization could survive, and thus their secret mission would have fallen into oblivion, the two families sealed last descendant within their own continent, waiting for the day they could be revived. The de Zaniah family scattered throughout the world to ensure survival, yet Vergil, Ienzo's ancestor, tried to go and help his Canthan and Elonian friends, leaving Eve alone with their three children. Vergil arrived too late in Cantha, his friends were already dead. Nevertheless, he managed to kill Minister Reiko. He disappeared on his way to Elona after Reiko's death, leaving a pendant that was given as a family heirloom to the de Zaniah family, from whom Ienzo seemed to be the last one standing...

In the last pages of the book, Ienzo's parents urged him to bring back to life the two sealed heroes, Chronos de Syrma and Noah Sargas, as well as find the survivors of the Lesath and Sykes families, if they were still alive. The keys to the resurrection were the sand from the Desolation and the stone, a piece of Echovald Forest. The salvation of the world could be within Ienzo's hands...

A Life of Battles

Ienzo joined the Vigil, who later became the Pact, to defeat Zhaitan and hopefully open a path towards Elona and Cantha. However, even after Zhaitan's defeat Ienzo couldn't leave Tyria, as many alliances formed by Scarlet Briar kept roaming the land, and mysterious probes were flourishing everywhere. Ienzo was to meet new people who ended up becoming his crew: Marjory Delaqua, Lady Kasmeer Meade, Braham Eirsson, Rox Whetstone, Taimi, and various fighters from all over Tyria. They witnessed the destruction of Lion's Arch and took part in the last battle against Scarlet in 1327 AE, which lead to the awakening of Mordremoth.

Ienzo was torn between heading westward and try to slain the Dragon with other Tyrians, or heading southward and fulfill his dead parents' wish. In the end he decided, along with his new friends, to go and kill Mordremoth while he was still potentially weak. A summit was organized, but soon interrupted by the Shadow of the Dragon. After a hard battle, Ienzo and his friends hurried to prepare their departure to the Maguuma Jungle in order to attack Mordremoth. However, the Pact fleet was destroyed by vines and most Sylvaris turned against Ienzo and the Pact army.

Ienzo and his friends decide to go and fight Mordremoth, and suddenly his pendant begins to glow...
