Walkthrough[edit]

Open world[edit]

The faster route skipping most Inquest Technological Frequencies. Note that the object will only be visible after touching the closest Frequency near it.

From Waypoint (map icon).png Pub Canach Waypoint, head northwest to Point of interest (map icon).png Hammerhart Battery, then head north to the green circle on the map. Upon approaching the destination, use the skill Activate Aetherlocation.pngAetherlocation, and an interactable object Inquest Technological Frequency will appear. Interacting with it will begin the hunt for Sebb and Kuda. To earn the achievement Visions of Eternity- Act 1.png Swift Skimming, there are 4 objects to interact within 5 minutes, exact locations are marked on the map.

  • Use the Skimmer's Aetherlocation skill to follow the track to the next quest area.
  • You do not need to touch every checkpoint, as long as you touch the one closest to the objectives.
  • Once you find the end of the trail, the search area hones in around a hidden interactable. These are visible as mounds of sand or dirt, but have no marker until you get close to them.
  • Use the Skimmer's Enhanced Barrel Roll.pngEnhanced Barrel Roll (skill 1) to uncover the sand and listen to the dialogue.
  • Repeat this until you reach the next story instance.

Guarded Glades[edit]

Enter the story instance and speak with Rytlock and Sayida. Lead them further into the island, defeating a group of crabs.

Proceed further until you find Sebb and Kuda. Kuda will summon Kela, Seneschal of Waves and flee, beginning the boss fight. Whittle her health down until she burrows. Avoid making contact with Kela as she is burrowed, while digging up sand piles. Discard any trash you pick up until you find an artifact. Throw the artifact at Kela, then begin damaging her again.

  • Repeat the above steps three times (at 90%, 80% and 70% health), and the fight will end.
  • This is where the achievements Visions of Eternity- Act 1.png If You Can't Beat 'Em... and Visions of Eternity- Act 1.png Sand Sweep are available.

Speak with Kela, then follow the trail and enter the portal to Starlit Weald to finish the chapter.

Story and replay checkpoints[edit]

The checkpoint is available during the story and can be freely accessed afterwards when replaying the episode for achievements:

  • Living World (replay).png Replay Truths Unearthed: Guarded Glades for achievements: Uncover Sebb and Kuda's plan, the Guarded Glades instance.

Achievements[edit]

  • Complete the mission.
  • Available during the fight with Kela, after she burrows.
  • Stand in the red circle around one of the smaller crabs and use the /dance emote when the executor AoE and sand piles appear.
  • Eligibility is tracked by the effect Achievement effect.png Achievement Eligibility: If You Can't Beat 'Em....
  • Avoid all the long telegraphed attacks from Kela during the burrow phase when looking for artifacts. Be aware that the hitbox is quite a bit wider than the telegraph.
    • It's best to bring some way of cleansing conditions since the circles around the smaller crabs apply Crippled.png Crippled, some way to get extra dodges or movement, or aggro Kela with summons to avoid the attacks from Kela (remember to not be locked on to her when doing this).
    • Though hitting by waves doesn’t disqualify the achievement, they applies Burning.png10 Burning, so it is advised to bring more condition removal skills.
  • Eligibility is tracked by the effect Achievement effect.png Achievement Eligibility: Sand Sweep.
  • Complete the Aetherlocation story step within 5 minutes.
    • Though this is technically a fair bit of time, the trail is pretty long and is stopped at 3 points by a fairly precise search (one of which also contains a long dialogue), meaning the timer is still fairly tight. Logging out and in again does not reset the timer. The story step can be reset to reattempt this, but this does not always immediately work.
  • Eligibility is tracked by the effect Achievement effect.png Achievement Eligibility: Swift Skimming.
    • The eligibility does not always reset properly if the story step is reset. If the eligibility buff icon fails to appear, logging in and out and resetting the story step (while not standing in the story area) can get it to reset and allow another attempt.

Dialogue[edit]

Entering the freeboother cavern
<Character name>: Too many tracks to follow. Maybe my skimmer can help...
Inspecting the Inquest Technological Frequency
<Character name>: Hmm... We know they're heading north. Maybe the skimmer can sense if there's something unusual we can track.
<Character name>: Let's see how sharp those senses are.
Opening the frist Inquest Cache
<Character name>: Sebb gathering artifacts inland. Kuda receiving secret messages. Interesting... Let's see what else we can find.
Hidden Communique

Overseer, I can only offer my apologies—what the director sees in the principal biomancer is beyond me, but there's no doubting the cruelty to which we would be subjected should he become aware of our information-sharing arrangement.

As far as his experiments are concerned, Sebb has been requesting a number of artifacts from the dig sites inland. What he intends with said artifacts, I have been unable to discover. But it seems he has acquired enough of the objects to satisfy whatever hypothesis he intends to test.

Again, I do very much appreciate your discretion and your willingness to indulge our "paranoia" with regard to the unconventional nature of these dead-drop locations.

Listening to the Inquest Audio Log Box
Overseer Kuda: By the time you retrieve this message—if it isn't washed out to sea—
Overseer Kuda: I will have already witnessed whatever vile abomination Sebb thinks to unleash next.
Overseer Kuda: Whatever it is, I expect it to be nowhere near powerful enough to combat the seneschal patrolling the mainland shore.
Overseer Kuda: It would almost be a shame if Sebb managed to kill her. She's rather majestic. From a distance.
Overseer Kuda: Perhaps she will snap his head from his shoulders, and I can watch as his grinning face rolls into the sea.
Overseer Kuda: For now, keep a low profile. I'm heading inland to meet up with Sebb...after I siphon the saltwater from my suit.
<Character name>: "Seneschal"? Not sure what that is, but Kuda definitely wants Sebb dead. Hmm. Where to next?
Opening the second Inquest Cache
(If asura, human or sylvari)
<Character name>: Apparently Castora is even more dangerous than we suspected. Back to the trail...
(If charr or norn)
<Character name>: Seems this place is even more dangerous than we thought. Back to the trail...
Hastily Scrawled Note

Apologies for lack of communication.

Sebb always suspicious. Note from Vloxx references second seneschal in Starlit Weald.

Vloxx hypothesizes territoriality beyond natural inclinations. Perhaps magical in origin.

Suspect from diction a diminishing in patience with Sebb's indulgences, but director can be inscrutable.

More when time permits.

Inspecting the Anomalous Frequency
(If asura)
<Character name>: Something large ahead? I'd better call for backup, just in case...
(If human, or otherwise) [verification requested]
<Character name>: Something big ahead? I'd better call in some help just in case...
<Character name>: Sayida. I think I'm nearing the end of the trail—skimmer's sensing something big. Bring backup.
Sayida the Sly: I'll gather whoever I can and be right there, Commander!

Guarded Glades instance[edit]

Meeting up with Rytlock and Sayida
Rytlock Brimstone: Finally.
Sayida the Sly: Came as quickly as we could. Canach's occupied—rowdy freebooters.
<Character name>: Isgarren?
Rytlock Brimstone: Invited him to check out the pub. Then invited him to check out Hullgarden. Wasn't too bothered when he declined.
Sayida the Sly: He seemed a little under the weather when we arrived. I assumed he was back on the Leviathan, but no luck there.
Rytlock Brimstone: Get the feeling he doesn't want to be here. Sure did insist on coming though...
<Character name>: No time to worry about it. Sebb and Kuda rendezvoused here—testing some experiment nearby. Let's see what they're up to.
Upon getting attacked by swarming crabs
Sayida the Sly: What is it with these things? Haven't left us alone since we sailed in!
Catching up to Kuda and Sebb
Rytlock Brimstone: This them? We going to beat the information out of them or...
Sayida the Sly: Are they...burying rocks?
Reaching Kuda and Sebb
(If asura)
<Character name>: Unclear. Do you have eyes on those raptors?
(If human, or otherwise) [verification requested]
<Character name>: No idea. Got eyes on those raptors?
Principal Biomancer Sebb: Friends of yours, Kuda?
Overseer Kuda: Hardly. Did you allow yourself to be followed, Biomancer?
Principal Biomancer Sebb: I would ask the same of you, Overseer. But it's irrelevant.
Rytlock Brimstone: No raptors.
<Character name>: Too good to be true. They're not running—
Sayida the Sly: Not even any guards around.
Principal Biomancer Sebb: What matters now is that you've all bungled this experiment.
Principal Biomancer Sebb: Do you have any idea the effort I've gone to?
Overseer Kuda: Burying artifacts that were scarcely just unearthed—
Principal Biomancer Sebb: Ah, but wait!
Principal Biomancer Sebb: Yes. Let's test a different hypothesis. Here. Catch.
Rytlock Brimstone: What—
Overseer Kuda: Unfortunate.
Sayida the Sly: Damn.
Rytlock Brimstone: (growls)
Fight with Kela, Seneschal of Waves
Sayida the Sly: Do you see those chains? She's bound by magic! I don't think she's doing this by choice.
(If asura)
<Character name>: She seems protective of those objects Sebb was burying in the vicinity. Maybe we can find those for her, calm her down.
(If human, or otherwise) [verification requested]
<Character name>: She wants those objects Sebb was burying around here. Maybe we can find those for her, calm her down.
Rytlock Brimstone: Killing her seems hard enough, let alone not killing her.
Overseer Kuda: I appreciate you stepping in, Commander. Good luck. Fools.
When Kela's health reaches 90%, 80% and 70%
One of the following:
Sayida the Sly: Give her an artifact. Hurry!
Sayida the Sly: Find what she wants before she kills us all!
Rytlock Brimstone: Better get a toy for her, fast.
Upon digging up junk from Sand Piles
One of the following:
<Character name>: Nothing useful here.
<Character name>: Not helpful.
<Character name>: No luck!
Followed by of the following:
Sayida the Sly: Keep looking!
Rytlock Brimstone: Try again!
Rytlock Brimstone: Try another spot!
Upon finding an artifact in the Sand Piles
One of the following:
<Character name>: An artifact!
<Character name>: Something here!
<Character name>: Found one!
Followed by of the following:
Sayida the Sly: Toss it her way!
Sayida the Sly: Throw it to her!
Rytlock Brimstone: Let her have the thing!
Talking to Kela after she gets friendly
<Character name>: That's it. We're not your enemy. There you go.
Rytlock Brimstone: That actually worked. Thought for sure somebody was going to end up dead there. Probably us.
Sayida the Sly: What... What are those artifacts? And the magic that's holding her...
<Character name>: Raw ley magic, mostly. But I swear there's something else familiar about it... When I saw it earlier, near Hullgarden...
Rytlock Brimstone: Either of you get much of a look at those artifacts she's hoarding?
Sayida the Sly: A book? Tablets? Some kind of shard—
(If asura)
<Character name>: Shadowstone. The seers. Alchemy! That's what that magic felt like! Seer magic!
(If human)
<Character name>: Shadowstone. The seers. Gods! That's what that magic felt like! Seer magic!
(Otherwise)
<Character name>: ? [verification requested]
<Character name>: Isgarren? Isgarren! Either he can't hear me or he doesn't want to talk.
<Character name>: With Kela calm for the moment, maybe you two can get some people inland and start setting up camp.
Sayida the Sly: On it. We'll keep an eye out for Isgarren.
Rytlock Brimstone: And Sebb. Like to wipe that smug grin off his face and get some answers.
<Character name>: I'll meet you there soon. We'll get our bearings, see if we can find any leads.

My story[edit]

Truths Unearthed Guarded Glades loading screen.png

There was too much foot traffic in northern Twisting Hollows to continue following the Inquest's footprints. I needed a new strategy, so I put my skimmer's Aetherlocation skill to work.

My skimmer picked up on an Inquest tech frequency, and we followed it north, out of the cavern system and onto the sandy shoals of the strand.

Strangely, we first discovered a buried communique, left for Kuda by one of her underlings, detailing Sebb's obsession with inland artifacts and an experiment in which he intended to use some of them.

Next, we found an audio communication from Kuda herself, left to be unearthed by one of her contacts. In the message, it's clear that Kuda detests Sebb and would be happy to see him dead. She mentioned that she was on her way to observe Sebb perform some kind of experiment involving a "seneschal," which she seemed to begrudgingly respect and possibly even fear.

Following the frequencies, the skimmer then uncovered a hastily written communication to Kuda-this one mentioning this "director" again, whose name seems to be Vloxx. The note suggested that Vloxx is hard to read, but that he might be losing patience with Sebb. It also mentioned Vloxx's speculation that, whatever these seneschals are, they might be "unnaturally" territorial.

The skimmer again followed the frequencies, turning inland to an area where it seemed to sense a large presence ahead...something to do with Sebb's experiment, no doubt.

Unsure what to expect, I called Sayida and asked her to bring backup.

***

I met up with Sayida on the beaches of Guarded Glades. Rytlock was the only ally she'd been able to gather—Canach being preoccupied with rowdy patrons at the pub and Isgarren nowhere to be found. With no time to waste, we ascended the hill, heading inland.

As we climbed, we were swarmed by crabs. As Sayida pointed out, the vicious things had been harrying us since before we made landfall! This turned out not to be a coincidence...

We caught up to Sebb and Kuda in a hillside glade. It seemed too good to be true-Sebb and Kuda, seemingly unprotected, Sebb inexplicably burying artifacts in the sandy ground.

We'd interrupted Sebb just before he could attempt whatever experiment he had planned... But Sebb improvised. He threw the last artifact in our direction and bolted. Before we could pursue him, a gigantic crablike creature emerged from beneath the ground, snapping its massive claws at us and Kuda.

Kuda quickly made an escape, leaving us to deal with the creature that had been hinted at in Kuda's communications: Kela, Seneschal of Waves.

Shackled in magical chains, Kela struck relentlessly. Sayida realized that the seneschal was not fully in control of herself, and she fiercely defended the artifact thrown by Sebb. Thinking quickly, we unearthed the artifacts that Sebb buried in the glade in an attempt to give them to Kela and calm her down, rather than fighting her to the death. Sayida's idea seemed to work, so we kept at it.

Eventually, we gathered enough of the artifacts to soothe the seneschal. With Kela subdued, we gathered ourselves and tried to piece together the clues and intel we'd discovered about the Inquest's mission. The artifacts Sebb had buried included old books, ancient tablets, a shard—

And that's when it all clicked. The shard was a piece of shadowstone. The subtle hint of familiar magic I'd felt when we first landed... That was seer magic! And Isgarren, the one person who would likely know more, was conspicuously missing.

After a fruitless attempt to contact Isgarren over comms, we decided to follow the lead of Sebb's artifacts further inland. Sayida and Rytlock went ahead to help establish a camp.

Where was Isgarren? He'd been acting strangely since the moment we set foot on this island. An island his people were somehow familiar with. Now, when we most needed him, he'd disappeared. And what about this director, Vloxx? Was he actually leading the Inquest on Castora?

There was no shortage of questions. It was time to hack our way inland to find more answers.
