Move tag[edit]

The history of this page says that "Harpoon" was never redirect to spear at any point, and that this page has always been about the weapon from the merchants. Additionally, I for one always think Harpoon = Harpoon gun, so if I was going to redirect it anywhere, I'd redirect it there, not to spear. That being said, the otheruses template at the top is fine, no reason to move this page, though it probably should be switched to just the Harpoon dismabiguation page which refers to both aquatic weapons. - Doodleplex 19:55, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

Spears are often referenced as Harpoons ingame, multiple times, including achievements and spear skins. In fact, out of 91 spear skins, 36 contain "spear", and 22 contain "harpoon". Someone looking for harpoons instead of spears should be redirected there to avoid confusion.
The same happens with Speargun and Harpoon gun, which is working as intended.--Lon-ami (talk) 16:11, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
Anyway, here's some proof about the spear weapon type being formerly called harpoon.--Lon-ami (talk) 14:02, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
I never said I didn't believe that Spear wasn't in some early age called Harpoon, I said this page was never redirected to Spear; of this you can see the page history for yourself. I switched the link to go to the Harpoon disambiguation page on the top, that should be enough. - Doodleplex 02:03, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Against the redirect. It's not needed. The otheruses up top fulfills the purpose perfectly. Very few people are going to search Harpoon looking for Spears. Konig (talk) 02:43, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
How is the page's past relevant in any way whatsoever? Someone looking for "Harpoon" is more likely looking for "Spear", not some basic weapon item.--Lon-ami (talk) 17:33, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Why do you think people would be searching for the weapon type when typing "Harpoon"? How often do you see the community ever refer to spears as "harpoons"? Personally? I never see it happen. Never. But I do see references to the weapon type having once been called "harpoon" and that's enough for an otheruses. If people search "Harpoon" it will be for the weapon sold by every weapon vendor NPC, not an archaic usage of the term that has less than a dozen references left in the game. "It has been suggested that this article, Harpoon, be moved to Harpoon (weapon) because: "Make Harpoon redirect to Spear once again."." That's the reason you gave for the move tag. That's why I said look at the history, your reason to move the page is invalid as this page has never served as a redirect to Spear. And it never will, there is also the Harpoon crafting material page, the Engineer skill named Harpoon and the skin named Harpoon. If anything, maybe the Harpoon disambiguation page should be the main "harpoon" page, and maybe this should move back to "Harpoon (weapon)". But turning it into a redirect? No. It's not happening. - Doodleplex 00:15, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
Let's not get into petty semantics, even if the move reason is "invalid", the point is still here. Was this page also empty, or did you delete it to move Harpoon (weapon) over here? If the redirect didn't previously exist, then it's just a coincidence I didn't create it myself.
Many ingame text still refers to spears as harpoons, including the Weapon Master achievements. It's not "less than a dozen references".
However, I do agree that using Harpoon (disambiguation) as the main one might be an even better solution. If you're okay with that, move Speargun (disambiguation) to Speargun as well.--Lon-ami (talk) 13:53, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
Don't forget to move Speargun (disambiguation) to Speargun as well.--Lon-ami (talk) 16:59, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
