Trivia Feedback 2025/07/11[edit]
In the Trivia section the translated poems are being stated as fact. "The following are translations by Reddit user...". However, the poems are not so easily defined. Each character represents many different meanings and personal bias shapes the way you view the poems. I think it would be better to say these are possible translations of each poem rather than imply these are the only translations. Others do not necessarily need to be included but it is not accurate to assume these are the only way one can interpret these poems. --Vbengr25 (talk) 17:07, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hiya. I have added in the original poems (which are in Simplified Chinese characters) as currently available for convenient source reference; hopefully this will help anyone interested in diving deeper into their own translation to do so. I do agree that translations, particularly with poetry, are a complex thing to do, and - with respect to the enthusiasm and perspective of those involved - am a bit wary of one interpretation being based as the touchstone for conversations elsewhere. However, it could still be useful, so maybe the reminder that this is but one potential, fan-made translation can help in the balance. (Or another can advise and act as to how these cases might be properly situated.) Redshift (talk) 17:45, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
Chinese poem #8 and #9 reference[edit]

Poetic Riddles #1-9[edit]
Hello, native speaker here. I've been translating these on the GW2 Discord for the past 2 weeks, and shall provide them here for reference.

- 弦 - string, bowstring, crescent, chord
- 心 - heart, mind, core
- 寄 - to entrust, to depend on, to deposit, to send
- 流 - current, stream; to flow, to spread
- 雲 - cloud

- 鐵 - iron, armament, firm
- 冑 - helmet
- 化 - to change, to become, to melt, to dissolve

- 銀 - silver, currency
- 流 - current, stream; to flow, to spread
- 千 - thousand, many, numerous
- 形 - shape, appearance, body, contour; to form, to appear, to display
- 募 - to levy, to recruit, to gather
- 影 - shadow, image, trace
- 塑 - plastic; to mould, to model, to sculpt
- 傾 - to lean, to incline, to tilt, to collapse, to pour, to admire, to overpower
- 千詭計藏,斗轉入彀: "A thousand cunning schemes concealed; as the Big Dipper turns, they fall into the trap."
- 千 - thousand, many, numerous
- 詭 - sly, cunning, tricky, deceitful
- 計 - gauge, plan, scheme; to calculate, to plot
- 藏 - to hide, to conceal, to store
- 斗 - dipper, ladle, stars
- It is also the simplified form of 鬥 - to fight, to contend
- 轉 - to turn, to revolve, to wind, to divert, to transfer, to shift
- The phrase 斗轉 is a Chinese idiom that specifically refers to the Big Dipper turning.
- 入 - to enter, to join
- 彀 - to draw a bow to the full
- The phrase 入彀 specifically means ensnare or entrap instead, where 彀 would mean the shooting range and that the target is within it.
- 銳意破風,狩影驚瀾: "With sharp resolve, breaking through the wind; hunting shadows, startling the waves."
- 銳 - sharp, keen, acute
- 意 - intention, meaning, thought; to anticipate, to expect

- The translation assumes that it is not the simplified form of 癒 because there are better characters for that.
- 世 - generation, lifetime, era, world
- 循 - to obey, to follow
- 疆 - boundary, border, frontier, territory, limit, bound
- 神風敕雲,嵐聚貫穹: "Divine winds command the clouds; mist gathers, piercing the firmament."
- 神 - god, spirit, expression, mystic, extraordinary
- 風 - wind
- The phrase 神風 suggests a strong, unusual, or protective wind that is attributed to a deity or divine power, but not necessarily divine in reality.

- 熔光鑄壁,輝甲永峙: "Molten light forges the wall, radiant armour stands eternal."
- 熔 - to melt (with heat), to fuse (with heat)
- There's also 溶 for dissolving in liquid and 融 for melting and fusing without specifically the use of heat.
- Thus, "melt" would be a better choice for an imagery of "heat" than the use of "fuse".
- 光 - light, beam, ray, only, pride, honour, luster; to make bare
- 鑄 - to cast, to forge, to form, to mould, to cultivate
- 壁 - wall
- 輝 - brightness, lustre, brilliance, radiance, splendour; to shine

2 legendary accessories[edit]
The latest blog post says there are two upcoming legendary accessories and one of them will be through WvW.
They never mentioned 2 before. I wonder what's going on there. 119.243.115.97 16:16, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
