Removal of Modern and Cologne Blue skins[edit]

- Removal of Skin theme. Amendment of LocalSettings.php
- Reason
- These skins have not been fully configured since the wiki was setup in 2007, there are extremely limited custom CSS and JS rules for this.
- Presence of these skins within the Special:Preferences window suggests falsely that they are supported to the same level as Monobook, Vector and Minerva. If users sample either Modern or CologneBlue they might give up before checking out the other skins.
- Low uptake of these skins, believed to mainly be dormant accounts, likely migrated from GW1W
- These two skins (although still maintained by MediaWiki) are no longer natively bundled with MW as of 1.31 and therefore adds to the burden of what needs to be manually added in every time we upgrade MW versions.
- Instructions
- Not applicable. This change has already been committed to the test version of this wiki (MW 1.38.2), and as such detailed instructions are not specified here (summarised; remove the Modern and CologneBlue skin folders, remove the wfLoadSkin lines for Modern and CologneBlue).
- Possible pitfalls
- None identified. Per mw:Manual:Skin configuration#Uninstalling skins, users who have their account set to use uninstalled skins will revert to the site default skin (currently Monobook), as such this is deemed a non-breaking change.
