where did this map come from?-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 22:00, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

A high-def screenshot from the demo. :) 98.23.17.64 22:13, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
The IP speaks truth, this is indeed a direct screenshot from the last demo. - Infinite - talk 22:18, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmm... I see some interesting changes when I compare this to the map in GW1. For one, there's a long gulf separating the peninsula of Orr and Crystal Desert, possibly extending all the way to Desolation. The shape of the Fire Ring Islands is also a bit different, though this probably has little to no meaning. The "drawn map" style also explains some of the differences in coastlines and proportions. But what I find geographically strange is how some of the rivers connect Giant's Basin to the seas... In what direction does the water flow, out of the sea into the lake, or out of the lake into the sea? Either way, it's weird. Well, the river delta indicates that the water flows into the sea, but still, it doesn't make much sense that the river starts from a lake (especially such a vast one), unless the lake is in an elevated location, with a large drainage basin with heavy rainfall. Which I don't think apply in this case. And the Giant's Basin happens to be a saltwater lake. Well, enough with that geography rant. This same issue was in the original map anyways.
Another interesting thing is how the larger of the two lakes seems to be split into two by a land strait, and the smaller seems to be reduced to little more than a stale point in a river. Are these changes caused by the awakening of the Elder Dragons? Would such large lake areas be too boring for gameplay reasons? Or am I just grossly over-thinking this?--Tuomir 18:23, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
In the last sentence of the Tyria page it says how the world has been changed with the rising of the Elder Dragons. 199.126.37.144 19:16, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
This is the picture I took at PAX East. There were a bunch of other map pictures, but only a few of the world. The world was actually too big for one screenshot so I had to take two and someone pieced the two together and made one big image. Glad you guys like it. The map icons you see on the map page were cropped from zoomed in map images I took at the demo. The icon for Lion's Arch blended in really well with the world map which is why I didn't notice it (was kinda rushed to get lots of screenshots in 40 minutes)...so it is blurry as a result. The rest are crystal clear and I think that this map came out quite well. Can't wait for the game to be released so we can get a proper one in there! --God Of Fissures 02:23, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Deletion[edit]

I disagree with deletion for two reasons:

  • It's not NDA breaking as it was gained via public demo during the cons.
  • It's historical and show the early phases of the map. Something that a number of people enjoy looking into, and a lot of such information was lost with GW1, no need to intentionally lose it for GW2 as well. Konig/talk 20:51, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
agreed with konig. and agree with the move to alpha map. or demo map rename.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 23:16, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
I love looking at this kind of stuff years later, keep it. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 00:36, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. Moved per the suggestion and updated all references. —Tanaric 04:43, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
