Removing deletion tag, this is a cropped image from the GW2 screenshots [1] found in top row on the right of the screenshots. --Corsair@Yarrr 16:44, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Categorisation[edit]

I take issue with this image being categorised in website screenshots. So far that category is a well-maintained repository for high-quality screenshots that a user can view to see all the "official" screenshots released by ANet so far. This, as well as this are crops from existing screenshots and bring down the quality of the website screenshots cat. --Santax (talk · contribs) 16:34, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Answer me a simple question: where did this image come from?
A trailer? No.
From GW1? No.
From your head? No.
From an image which came from the website? Yes.
Therefore, which category do you think this belongs to? Erasculio 17:28, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh oh i know this! the guildwars 3 category! --NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon5 Anti.png 17:49, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh grow up, I'm not suggesting we put it in a trailer or GW1 category, don't be facetious. Maybe we should have a category for images cropped by screenshots is what I am saying. And Neil: nobody thinks you are funny, whenever you make non-constructive comments like that all you do is embarass both yourself and the people reading the wiki. --Santax (talk · contribs) 10:46, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
I'd also like to note that many of the images in the website screenshots cat aren't actually from the official GW website, but from interviews and features on other websites. So images in that cat don't have to exactly be website screenshots. --Santax (talk · contribs) 10:57, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
I think the tag explains that the images are from related websites too (i.e. fansites linked from the GW2 site). I don't think we should create extra categories just because the images are cropped - that's getting a bit too anal in categorisation. Cats in general aren't really for browsing anyway, that's a second purpose. pling User Pling sig.png 15:43, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Then maybe we should have a gallery or something for that purpose? Currently, the website screenshots cat is linked from the main page, so in practice it is for browsing, and a casual wiki user might be interested in seeing all the available screenshots of GW2 so far. I'll have time in a few days to set one up if there's no opposition. --Santax (talk · contribs) 15:53, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Is there any opposition to this? I'm keen to get on with it because now images like this are being added to the category. --Santax (talk · contribs) 08:11, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Is there any support? I'm wondering if you haven't noticed how Pling above didn't exactly agree with your idea of removing slightly cropped website images from the website images category. Considering how I didn't agree either, nor did Neil, everyone in this discussion but you apparently do not have a problem with screenshots seen on the website being added to the website category. Erasculio 09:55, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
We're not talking about the website screenshots cat anymore. I'm talking about setting up a gallery of sorts for all known "official", high-quality screenshots so far, for the purposes of "casual browsing". --Santax (talk · contribs) 11:18, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh, but speaking of cropped pictures, I too would like them to be removed from that category. They AREN'T website pictures anymore, since they no longer are identical to those found on the website. Once upon a time they were, but seeing as how they are now incomplete, edited, etc, they probably shouldn't go in any subcategory, but rather just remain in the main category where other cropped images are. :) Also, when labeling as a website screenshot, the label says "This screenshot has been captured from the official Guild Wars 2 website or one of its linked sites." and wouldn't that be untrue if it were some edited picture done by some random person? I always figured that "captured from" meant as a whole, and not in bits and pieces, but maybe everyone else thought differently? --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 11:40, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
I for one would welcome a screenshot gallery. It makes much more sense to link to a gallery of all screenshots from the main page than a random subcategory, as is currently the case. Note that these two screenshots I uploaded were from IGN, cropped by me to remove their watermark. I purposefully did not include the "website screenshot" category, as I thought it was meant for unedited screenshots. --Emelend 12:12, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
If the cropping was done to remove watermarks, then they should still be "website screenshots" - it's the only way to be able to upload the image here, and it's only a small part of the image. The name indicates they are from websites, and even if they're slightly cropped, they're from the websites.
Personally, I'd rather just put them all in the main screenshot category, or if necessary in a separate "pre-release screenshot" category. Don't think it's necessary to distinguish sources for screenshots, since they're all ultimately from the game. pling User Pling sig.png 16:22, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
I completely agree with adding cropped images if they are cropped ONLY to remove a watermark, but there are pictures in the website category that are cropped for no reason; such as this, when we already have this. --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 16:43, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
The first one is used to illustrate a centaur; it's more useful cropped. It's like how we crop GW1 screenshots to remove characters, UI, etc, and only keep the NPC. (The character and stuff would stay if we were illustrating The Game, which is what the second link does.) pling User Pling sig.png 00:10, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
