Walkthrough[edit]

After you enter the mission and head for the marker, you will see Malyck being attacked by a few Nightmare Courtiers. Fight them. After the fight Malyck tells you how much he likes the wardens. Then head for the village, note that the houses are burning and there are dead wardens. Also there are Nightmare Courtiers in town. Kill them. Then revive the wardens. Near one of the houses is a pumpkin looking thing called a water bucket. Get it, and put out the fires by running into a fire and pouring water. Once the fires are out, you will get attacked by multiple waves of Nightmare Courtiers. It's a pretty tough battle, so prepare well and good luck.

Dialogue[edit]

The Grove[edit]

Approaching Caithe and Trahearne, a Messenger runs out:

Caithe: Trahearne. It is good to see you once more within the Grove.
Trahearne: It is hard for me to return. Each time I do, I feel more and more distant.
Caithe: Let the Mother shelter you. It will pass.
Caithe: There you are, Valiant, Come. Meet Trahearne.

Cinematic:

Caithe: Greetings, Valiant. I want you to meet Trahearne, another of the sylvari firstborn.
Caithe: Only a few firstborn are called to Wyld Hunts. I have the calling. So does Trahearne. I believe he carries the heaviest burden of us all.
<Character name>: More difficult than fighting an Elder Dragon?
Caithe: Our task is tangible, if dangerous. His is ephemeral. There may be no solution.
Trahearne: I'm glad to meet you, but I'm afraid we have no time for proper welcomes. There is a more immediate matter at hand.
Caithe: Just before you arrived, a messenger brought news of three attacks by the Nightmare Court. I can aid one, Trahearne another...
<Character name>: I'll take the third. Where do you need me to go?
Caithe: They're besieging the Warden outpost of Falias Thorp. Make your way there as quickly as possible, Valiant, and lend a hand.
Trahearne: Before you go, a warning. On my way to the Grove, I heard a rumor that the Nightmare Court are seeking something called the "harbinger."
Trahearne: They are determined to find it, whatever it may be—and based on that alone, we must stop them.
<Character name>: Understood. I'll head to Falias Thorp right away.

Talking to your allies:

Caithe: I apologize for the urgency of this task, Valiant, but the situation offers few options.
Talk more option tango.png May I ask a question?
Yes, but bear in mind that we have little time.
Talk more option tango.png What is the "harbinger"?
I don't know, but the Nightmare Court is obsessed with it. We need to find it before they do.
Talk back option tango.png I have one more question.
Talk end option tango.png Very well. I'll Figure it out as I go.
Talk more option tango.png Can you tell me about Falias Thorp?
A warden outpost, south of a major Nightmare Court holding. They may be under heavy assault.
Talk back option tango.png One more quick question, if you please?
Talk end option tango.png I'm on it. See ya.
Talk more option tango.png What can you tell me about these attacks?
Quick assaults, burned villages, general chaos. This isn't random damage...the Nightmare Court is looking for something.
Talk back option tango.png May I ask something else?
Talk end option tango.png Sounds bad. I'm on my way.
Talk end option tango.png I'll head to Falias Thorp right away. Thanks.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks for the information, Caithe.
Trahearne: I am glad to meet you, Valiant. Caithe has had few friends since...I think you will be good for her.
Talk more option tango.png May I ask a question?
Of course. How may I aid you?
Talk more option tango.png Can you tell me more about your Wyld Hunt?
I am challenged to cleanse the land of Orr. In my dream, I saw it green and growing again.
Talk back option tango.png May I ask another question?
Talk more option tango.png That would be amazing. Is it even possible?
We don't know yet. I've seen nothing to show that...well, I must not lose hope.
Talk back option tango.png May I ask another question?
Talk end option tango.png Thank you for the information.
Talk end option tango.png That sounds difficult. We'll speak again, in the future.
Talk more option tango.png What is the "harbinger" that the Nightmare Court seeks?
Captive members of the court know little, other than that they must find it—and soon. Whatever it is, we must stop them.
Talk more option tango.png Is it that bad?
The Nightmare Court is single-minded, but this...this is only blind fanaticism. We must know more.
Talk back option tango.png May I ask another question?
Talk end option tango.png Let's nip this in the bud, then!
Talk back option tango.png May I ask another question?
Talk end option tango.png I understand. Thank you.
Talk more option tango.png How well do you know Caithe?
We are both firstborn, tasked to face the challenges of Orr. She is a sister to me, in spirit and in purpose.
Talk back option tango.png May I ask another question?
Talk end option tango.png That's good to know.
Talk end option tango.png I'll be headed out now. See you soon.
Talk end option tango.png I'm glad to help. Good luck out there.

Wychmire Swamp[edit]

Approaching Malyck (cinematic):

Malyck: Who are you? Are you another of these murderers?
<Character name>: Calm down, I'm a friend. Who are you, and what's going on?
Malyck: My name is Malyck. The Wardens took me in. They found me, injured, in the forest. I was here when the outpost was attacked.
Malyck: The Wardens said these creatures are called the "Nightmare Court." They've set fire to the camp, and cut down everything in their path.
Malyck: We're outnumbered, besieged, and most of the guard has been injured. I'm all that's left of the defense.
<Character name>: Let me fight with you, Malyck. I know the Nightmare Court, and I'd be glad to raise arms against them.
Malyck: I'll have to trust you—I've no other choice. But I warn you, the Wardens are under my protection, and I will let no harm fall on them.
Malyck: Help me drive back these villains, quickly. We must put out the fires before they spread to the forest.

After the cinematic:

Malyck: The time for chatter is over. Now, we fight.

Talking to Malyck:

Malyck: These fiends must pay for the horror they have wrought upon my friends!
Talk more option tango.png What should I do about the fires?
Buckets of water would work best, I think.
Talk more option tango.png How do I help the wardens? (Same as below)
Talk more option tango.png How many courtiers are out there? (Same as "How many Nightmare Court members are out there?")
Talk end option tango.png I'm on it!
Talk more option tango.png How do I help the wardens?
Bandage their wounds, and they might be able to help us defend this place!
Talk more option tango.png What should I do about the fires? (Same as above)
Talk more option tango.png How many courtiers are out there? (Same as "How many Nightmare Court members are out there?")
Talk end option tango.png I'm on it!
Talk more option tango.png How many Nightmare Court members are out there?
Many. I predict they'll attack in waves—keep your wits about you.
Talk more option tango.png What should I do about the fires? (Same as above)
Talk more option tango.png How do I help the wardens? (Same as above)
Talk end option tango.png On it!
Talk end option tango.png On it!

Approaching the outpost:

Malyck: Those who cannot give mercy, deserve none.

After reviving the last warden:

Malyck: That's all we're saving.

Talking to the wardens before the fighting's over:

Warden: Well done! Let's destroy these monsters!
Talk end option tango.png We shall!
Warden Ranger: Those scoundrels won't get away with this!
Talk end option tango.png Not this time.
Warden Shield: Rally, wardens! We shall defeat our foes!
Talk end option tango.png For the Pale Tree!

Putting out the last of the fires:

Malyck: With the fires out, the outpost should be able to recover.

After various waves of Nightmare Courtiers:

Nightmare Courtier: Cut them open!
Nightmare Courtier: Your simple mind will know terror.

Talking to Malyck when Veteran Nightmare Courtier appears:

Malyck: Is this the courtier responsible for the attack? We shall end him!
Talk end option tango.png Agreed!

While fighting Veteran Nightmare Courtier:

Veteran Nightmare Courtier: You'll die by my hand! (upon aggro)
Veteran Nightmare Courtier: Hunt them down! (75% health)
Veteran Nightmare Courtier: You can die now! (50% health)
Veteran Nightmare Courtier: No! Impossible. I'm not a failure! (25% health)

After the fighting is over, before talking to Malyck:

Warden: Pale Tree preserve us...that was close!
Talk end option tango.png We made it!
Warden Ranger: Thank the Mother Tree you came along.
Talk end option tango.png I'm just glad everyone's all right.
Warden Shield: My stars! That was intense.
Talk end option tango.png I'm just glad everyone's all right.

Talking to Malyck after the fight (cinematic):

Malyck: You fight well, stranger. I'm grateful you came along. I hope you'll forgive my initial mistrust.
<Character name>: It was in the heat of battle. It's understandable. Tell me, do you know why the Nightmare Court were here? It's not like them to attack the Wardens head-on.
Malyck: I do. It seems that they wanted me. I don't know why. I've never met their kind before and I'm certainly no friend to them.
Malyck: They kept calling me the "Harbinger." When I resisted, the courtiers took hostages. They threatened to harm them if I didn't give myself up.
Malyck: I was willing, but Captain Banya refused to allow it. "I'm a civilian," she said, "and they were Wardens." I told her she was a fool, and now...she's gone, too.
<Character name>: Whatever the Nightmare Court is planning for you, I can assure you—it isn't pleasant. Come back to the Grove with me, where you'll be safe.
Malyck: The Grove? is that where your people come from?
<Character name>: My people? You mean the sylvari? Malyck...don't you know about the Grove?
Malyck: No. I do not come from these lands. I apprieciate[sic] your offer, but I won't abandon the Wardens.
Malyck: I'll go with you after they're safe, and the Nightmare Court's been punished. The courtiers said they were going to Joy's End.
<Character name>: Joy's End? Sounds lovely. I'll meet you there.

Talking to your allies after the cinematic:

Malyck: Sorry if I was harsh earlier. All I could think about was protecting my friends.
Talk more option tango.png I understand. We've fought together now—please, call me <Character name>.
<Character name>. Thank you, both for fighting here, and for agreeing to help me. We must rescue those wardens.
Talk more option tango.png Agreed. First, can I ask a few questions?
Certainly. What can I help you with?
Talk more option tango.png Tell me about Warden Banya.
She was very kind to me. She gave me these weapons...and taught me to use them.
Talk back option tango.png We'll find her. Let me ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png She sounds like a good person. We'll find her. I promise.
Talk more option tango.png Do you know anything else about the "harbinger"?
Nothing. I've never heard the term before.
Talk back option tango.png Don't worry about it. Can I ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png I wonder what they're looking for? Thanks, though.
Talk more option tango.png You've really never been to the Grove?
No—or, if I have, I cannot recall it. Right now, there are other, more important things to worry about.
Talk back option tango.png Right. Let me ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png I understand. We'll talk more later.
Talk end option tango.png Thank you for all your answers. Let's get going.
Talk end option tango.png Absolutely. See you soon.
Talk end option tango.png I understand. We'll get them back.
Warden: You saved our lives. Thank you!
Talk more option tango.png What did those courtiers want?
They were after our friend Malyck, I think. Maybe because he's a young sylvari, and they think they can corrupt him?
Talk end option tango.png Hm. Well, that's one theory.
Talk end option tango.png No problem. Take care!
Warden Ranger: Thank you for your aid, friend. It was good to see you in our hour of need.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me, Warden—how long has Malyck lived among you?
Not long at all. We found him injured in the forest, perhaps a few weeks ago.
Talk end option tango.png Interesting. Thank you.
Talk end option tango.png Take care of yourself, Warden.
Warden Shield: You're a brave one, friend. I admire that! You're as brave as any of our wardens.
Talk more option tango.png Can you tell me more about this outpost?
We've had our share of conflict—hostile hylek, monsters in the swamps—but nothing like this. Those courtiers were fanatics.
Talk end option tango.png Unsettling. I wish you the best of luck here.
Talk end option tango.png That's a kind compliment. Thank you.

My story[edit]

The Direct Approach.jpg

I met Caithe at Dreamer's Terrace, and she introduced me to Firstborn Trahearne. News arrived that the Nightmare Court are attacking several outposts, seeking something they call "the harbinger." I volunteered to aid the outpost of Falias Thorp. I only hope I'm not too late.

At Falias Thorp, I met a mysterious sylvari, named Malyck. Together, we were able to rally the fallen wardens and drive off the Nightmare Court. Many of the wardens were kidnapped, including thair[sic] leader, Captain Banya. It's very strange...Malyck doesn't seem to have any memory of the Grove, or the Dream. I wanted to take him to the Pale Tree, but he was insistent about saving his kidnapped friends. Now, it's off to Joy's End to save the wardens and make the Nightmare Court pay for this attack.
