The petty sens of humor of Anet will never die[edit]

One day an instant repair canister drop for you and you think "how cool, i'm gonna test it right now since it doesnt say anywhere that it got a limited use". There are 2 things Anet was fond of in gw1: make players guess about things they shouldnt guess, and providing erroneous or icomplete descriptions (be it skills or whatever), making a sport of forgotting important details. Maybe people were throwing stones at them when they were childs and they now take their revenge on us. On another hand i cannot count the number of bugs that allow you to succeed or fail where you shouldnt, so maybe this game is just not yet as finished as i thought. Time will tell. Oink Oink[edit]

All that to say that you can get 4 levels in less than 2 hours (i did not precommand gw2 and i am not assisted by any one from day one).

A short report[edit]

I did wait to post here my observations of the game because i wanted to be sure i wasnt misunderstanding how things work in the game. Here it is:

- Minimal config: Even on a recent machine i barely reach 220fps. The game do not sustain the 60fps in WvW d-day style fights whith v-sync off... On my previous machine, a low fps could lead the game to not queue commands properly, or to the commands never being processed.

- Options: The lupicus giganticus is hard to fight if you disable the red circles option. Maybe it should not be an option after all.

- Aiming: the aiming options do not seem to do what the description state, target selection seems to be based purely on distance rather than on target alignement with cam view + distance. As soon as more than one potential target is present, the aiming system will begin to fire projectiles in unexpected directions, often stupid ones. Your target selection do not seem to matter much, dont bother trying to lock something with all the options available to you (excepted when there is only one foe in a room, because there nothing else left for the game to select).

- Projectiles: the flame thower will often fire its projectile into the ground when there is a clear line of sight, or the projectile will stop onto a 2 millimeters high stairway. If it encounters a wall or a background prop right in the back of a foe, it will not explode.

- Mortar: sometimes the most important attack skill of the mortar will activate but no projectiles will be launched. Where did they go ? a) yes but no, b) i will ask, c) they went on a journey to discover the land of eskimos.

- loot: disappear too soon or stay there for ever. No obvious reason for the later since it can be trash loot. The need to manage loot dissappearance while in the middle of an event upset me to no end. I estimate to a thousand looted items the number of items i lost this way in 2 days. It pisses me off to no end.

- Graphics: minor, even with the vsync activated there are sometime some artifacts on the screen that you should see only when the vsync is not activated.

- Movements: The flip-direction button work rarely when in combat, that is to say, when you need it the most. Add to that the aiming system and it often suffice to get in the back of your foe to score an easy kill (your character will aim the trees and whatnot, and long recharge knock back skills will activate in the void). Maybe they should simply let the player aim manually, it cant be worst.

- Misc: Because in pve the npcs use the same aiming system that your player use in pvp, you can use an old trick that belong to the wolfenstein era: rapidly alternate right/left strafe directions (about 4 times pre seconds). Foes try to predict where you will be based on your last movement directions and your current velocity, which lead them to shoot away from you 100% of the time. Back then programmers were used to record your last positions in a time frame of 500ms to one second, the projectile trajectory was then checked against your trail. In order to help foes to make better predictions as to where you would be, they were simply weighting your last velocity vector based on the changement of directions you had made in this same time frame. So your quick left/right movements would lead the AI to shoot correctly closer to your location instead of shooting the trees. But i'm talking of an era where modders were fixing bugs made by id software...

- Mystic forge: before the last update i used a gold gun in the hope that i would at least get something gun-related. I did get a green piece of clothe that my profession cant use. I will never use the forge again. Sometime i wonder if they did not took the habit of taking more than they give.

- World vs Worls: people do not attack the walls because there is no feedback on the damages you do with for exemple grenades (the lack of explosions make you think the wall "eat up projectiles"). Even most ancient players continue to ask questions as to when a castle wall take damages for real or not. Maybe one day the designers will begin to think: it's not because i know something i designed that suddenly it's obvious for the whole wolrld. Or would it be that they consider themselves to be the only people that matter in this game (along with their close friends to which they give infos on hidden mechanics, so that, you know, it stays a fair game)?

I had initially noted around 15 or so really annoying things about the game but maybe i will make another, more structured post if i must write them down here.

Learning[edit]

- These last few days i learned to alternate between the flame thrower and the rifle a lot in order to increase firepower in a such a way that, combined with the utility belt, i was able to solo the "defend the isolated outpost" event this evening. In fact WvW did help me by realizing how you can improve survivability and finally kill people that initially chased you by switching weapons in order to double the number of knock backs/snares and powerfull shots with long recharge available to you.
- I learned that the Elixir R can fix a blocked event by allowing to resurect involved dead NPCs, i also used it to boost and do ranged/aoe revivals of dead mates at the temple of the glorious victory against the statue of balthazar.

I may toy with the custom musics now that i have made my mind on the musics i want to listen during events althought, for once, the default musics of guildwars seems to match the action pretty well.

I already knew from another maxed crafmanship that maxing one was a matter of at most one hour, but it only came to my mind after maxing another one that with the 42000 karma/piece armor you were only really getting a skin. The true power of gw is in the crafting of your armor focusing on the 3 aspects you want to max and then use the transmutation stones they gave you when creating your first char or acessing your HOM (cant remember). I will hence go soon above the 3100 armor / 3100 attack power / 20000 hp on... an engineer. Yseron - 192.168.104.83 23:02, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Buged event[edit]

I killed a minor NPC magiaican that was guarding an asura prisoner of its broken armor. After that a new quest objective did pop up but since the asura that you must help was frozen in its mechant form this second event did go nowhere... A word on veteran risen abominations[edit]

Too often when there are only one or two people to do the "defend the lone outpost" event with me i see players die to the veteran risen abominations. The trick with Big Macs (risen abominations) is to not run away when they are after you if you are the only one left alive: when he is attacking normaly, go right through him, passing between his legs, he is too slow to touch you. Evade only his most powerfull attack that got a distinctive animation. Keep your blind or blocking utility for when you are knocked down, should it happen. When facing alone a wave that got a big mac in it, kill the burger last.

Seems like since last update it's going to be harder... you keep being teleported by the undead minions 12 times in a row wich prevent any epic gameplay and promote being a dick with allies in order to finish the thing if you are not alone but there's not enough people. Yseron -

GW2 wiki stats[edit]

Where you learn that 18-24 years old players are over represented and that people spend 6 minutes on a page on average (means well written gw2 concise articles ?). Toy with the "Traffic Stats / Search Analytics / Audience / Contact Info / Reviews/ Related Links and Clickstream" tabs to see up to date datas and an history of the dayly monitored datas. www.guildwars2.com/fr[edit]

Fucking internet habit to redirect people to wwww.the_site_i_wanted_to_see.com/fr or whatever. Localised sites are badly translated, lack exhaustivity and are updated with a delay of an eternity so it was logic that a genius would come with the idea to force you to get there instead of the original www.guildwars.com. I dont want a piece of crap just because it is written in my langage, i want the correct, complete, up to date site as everyone can see it, so for fuck sake, let me go on the u.s. site if i want to. Open Circus[edit]

While porting one of our project on MAC i again stumbled across a problem with Ogre (the window going black when moving it or resizing it). I did read an entire page full of posts related to this bug on the ogre forum, but after only 2 minutes of tests it appears that the problem simply comes from 2 non initialized variables (mLeft and mTop in OSXCarbonWindow::create()). It's still not corrected in the last version of Ogre we tested... Yep open source... to everyone and everything... Yseron - 192.168.104.79 13:31, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

The 20 pets player[edit]

There is a player with 20 dogs (Gates Of Madness server, Detroit Of Devastation at the time i type this) that never disappear after a while and who can take down the boss of an event in 4 secs chrono (no, it's not a metaphor). If it's not an exploit then Anet did not told us everything about the skills we can unlock in the game. Yseron - 90.15.190.93 15:25, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Interesting, on top of not being able to trust characters stats, or the majority of the things present in gw2, and having the UI displaying 12/6 runes equiped in the hero panel, we will also have to worry about mystic un-implemented things that come from outer space... Beauty everywhere[edit]

Gw2 truly have some wonderfull landscapes and atmospheres. I continue to be amazed as i discover some new areas. For now my only regrets are that, excepted for a few events, dynamic events tend to start only every once in a while, or are broken. Bots are not much of a trouble as long as they remain in areas nobody is interested in. Sometimes, when thinking of the events, i wonder if it comes from the diffculty to handle the complexity of whatever system they choose, or an inappropriate tool, or the coders in charge of the events, or god knows what... That aside, when looking at the guild registry i notice that only 2 or 5% of the players spend some time maxing craftmanship. Do they know that the weapons/armors/items/whatever they craft come with max stats that you choose and that you can craft exotic stuff that will benefit your other characters ? By the way beware that 2 weapons with identical power stats and bonus will not necessarily give you the same overall power stat. It's clearly a bug but i begin to get use to things that dont work as expected. Yseron - 90.29.176.215 00:32, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

I did read a post in the guildwars2 news about the Lost Shores update.
